the thing about Ishaq though is that he has always looked the part and he's never been a dominant practice player. It won't be until the lights go on until we know how good he can be.

If that isn't integrated into my communication, I apologize. He has a newfound intensity from what my source has seen and heard.

definitely promising to hear and a baller final form of Ishaq would be great for ND but I just have to reserve judgement until he hits the field and plays meaningful snaps :)

I hope he comes back and finally puts it together with a newfound dedication. He has all the tools to be great if he wants to be.

When does Greg Bryant get the potential label?

Haha. He's had this "newfound intensity" every year since he got here.

But the key point is my guy was never a IW fan. The only thing he used to say was that IW played out of position, therefore looked lost most of the time.

I hope he comes back and finally puts it together with a newfound dedication. He has all the tools to be great if he wants to be.

Agreed!

I'm calling him "Newfound" from now on, its settled.

Why stop there? Brendan's precious 'Hy Many' - Newfoundland; We can call him 'Newfy' for short!

I move to slap the label on him if he doesn't have 800 combined yards by the end of the season. That would give him 8+ games to be a weapon in the rushing/passing/KR/PR game.

In his RS Soph year or, junior year for the purists, we should expect nothing less of a 4-5 star recruit running behind this line.

Dex may have a few hundred yards before being shut down to preserve a RS (if the coaches decide to go that route). I sometimes forget how highly rated Dex was, I think he was rated at least as high as Cierre Wood coming out of high school.

Why we got Dexter Williams and Josh Adams.

I think Dex is going to be a good one, let's hope he turns into the better of the two (between him and Soso)

I have reservations about Adams upright running style but maybe he'll turn into a dynamic RB.

He's a less physical Ronald Jones (Who I wanted sooo bad last year). Lost way to many recruiting battles with USC last year.

I have serious reservations about the film of both Williams and Adams. The good news is that they have all requisite raw tools. So we'll see what happens and I won't pass judgement yet.

What people should really be talking about is that in the '13 class we passed on Corey Clement in favor of Bryant/Folston. I think that's turning out to be a miscalculation.

I can't imagine anyone thinking Clement > Folston. Clement plays in a much more run-oriented offense against much weaker defenses than we play. We watched Clement and UW get absolutely stonewalled by O$U.

Back to Ishaq though, is he going to be at camp with the team?

Who said that? Nobody did.

But Clement > Bryant so far and it's not even close at this point.

I understand your point, but c'mon. Hindsight is 20/20. You telling me you don't take the 5 star Bryant over the 4 star Clement during their initial recruitment? Even then, ND has to take a swing on some of these guys that aren't sure fire culture fits in order to get that ONE breakthrough stud that can propel you to the next level. Like BK said, we shop down a different aisle. Our aisle just isn't as well stocked as the rest of the country.

I was banging the table as loud as I could to take Clement.

That is my understanding. I assume that if you have above the minimum GPA you can be part of the 105 man roster, but you can't be cleared to play in a game until you have been certified by the NCAA to have enough credits.

This whole thing is really simple. You recruit who you recruit. You get who you get. Then it is up to the staff and the player to contribute all to developing that raw recruit into a player that can contribute. Everyone has to give selflessly for that to happen.

We have all seen enough five star duds, and enough two star successes to understand that after high school development and motivation are key ingredients; key ingredients that cannot be predicted with certainty.

And there is a "thrown-ness" to a sport like football. What did they used to say? The ball had points on each end so it bounced irregularly.

Here is what it is, then :

  • Here is to guys like Ishaq stepping up, maturity is a wonderful thing. I wish I had a dollar for every upperclassman at the prep and college level that showed little at first, and became a beast in their last season.
  • Here is to guys like Dexter and Josh stepping up. ND deserves to have a freshman running back success. And when you read about these guys, they deserve it, too! (I know there were better prospects than either of these kids, but Soso has all the earmarks of an extremely high maintenance kid anyways, and how did the five star, Florida running back work out for us so far? Inquiring minds want to know?)
  • Here is to swimmin' with bold-legged women!

(I love to go swimmin'
With bow-legged wimmin
And swim between their legs
Swim between their legs.)

If true, that sucks. Though I don't read much into on what he reports..

If he doesn't play this year he is out of eligibility. Right?

yup!
i really don't understand how in any way Ishaq could become eligible considering KVR worked his asss off all spring in Junior college and tooks tons of classes to get back enough credits and Ishaq didnt do any

I never said I would've have taken Bryant over Clement. I'm not good enough to correctly analyze high school film (too many variables), so I rolled with the coaches on that one. But it's not too crazy to say that Clement has been better so far than Bryant in college.

6'6" 250 lbs of lollygagging around the field with a 1000 yard stare... I wish the best for him and his future but we're not missing out on anything related to a pass rush.. Sorry.

There's more intensity in my morning bowl of All-Bran than there is in Ishaq.
