Cough, cough.

The way I heard it was that Coach Bud had this first but Notre Dame made it more famous-what is the real answer.

Not missing this one. It will be a madhouse and a liver killing guys weekend.

I hear renting houses on the lake and pontoon tailgating is the way to go large at Clemson. Anyone know what I am talking about?

I've got a buddy who owns a cabin on that lake. It's the main reason I'm considering buying a too-expensive ticket.

Does he boat over to games? Truly fascinated by this concept although finding your way home in the middle of the night is probably interesting.

We probably wouldn't boat. Too risky. All in all it's about a thirty minute drive. Still though, it'd be nice to kill the hangover on a lake.

Guy on the local radio picked Clemson today to make the final four playoff. They're a good team but in the playoff...pssstttt.

His reason being, FSU right now will have a new QB and they are in disarray on and off the field.

Hmmm....

It has always seemed to me that there is a strong ND hate down in Indy. Why is that?

I don't know...really hate 'em or love 'em down here. A lot of Michigan fans it seems like in my neck of the woods. But I'm pretty sure this a national guy.

I certainly wouldn't pick them to do it, but I could see Clemson winning the ACC and getting a spot... not really any more crazy than saying Notre Dame will go 11-1 or better and get in.

I can't remember his name...it was on the Dan Dakich show. Give me a second I'll try to find it. His other picks were OSU, USC and Arkansas.

Okay, nevermind, he's batshit crazy...

It's weird. I first noticed it a few years ago on a business trip. I was there for two weeks and I listened to local radio every day. They dogged them constantly and all of the callers called up with the majority calling to say how much they disliked them. I then went to a bar to watch the game and it seemed like I was the only Irish fan there. Everybody else was cheering against them. There were a few stragglers, but mostly dislike.

Which is weird. Because there are plenty of alumni and Irish fans down there. But no middle ground for the non-Irish faithful. Always seems like they are fans or they hate them.

It is very odd. They really don't even get much play on the local radios...hear about IU and PU all the time though.

Speaking of business trips, I was up in Elkhart IN yesterday for one. Drove by ND on my way home (30 minutes or so out of the way) and thought about stopping by the book store...but decided to head on home.

I just had this exact conversation with a sportscaster at the Pint Room in Carmel a few weeks ago. He's from the eastcoast and didn't understand the thin support for ND in the Indy area.

My take:

Outside of The Region and the very Catholic town of Evansville, that's Indiana for you. IU and Purdue fans have a strong dislike for ND. Purdue because they were ND's sacrificial lamb in football and IU because they don't have a football team and ND Football is one of the few historical brands better than IU basketball, which REALLY pisses them off. Another reason is, people see ND as a Chicago team and a school for people not from Indiana. Ever since the Pacers surpassed the Bulls after Jordan and the Colts gained some traction in the mid to late 90's... the rest of the state has increasingly turned against The Region and views it as Chicago, not Indiana... which obviously the Region shares more in common with than Inditucky.

ND hate in Indy.. no way man. yes, folks love them some IU, but a shit load of Catholics around Indy. I grew up (70s/80s) downtown with 10ish Catholic Churches/Schools within 10 miles of me. All cheering on for ND. My neighborhood (Italian) was bordered by German, Irish, and 4 other ethnic parishes. Go to any hood on Saturday,,,, watching the Irish.

Basket ball, when I was growing up, you were either IU or PU, but football, most were all ND.

Anyone going to the game? I'm thinking about making the drive up from Tallahassee, but the ticket prices are pretty high.
