68 days before kickoff until our first offseason blunder.

Meh. Seems like he was third string honestly. Folston and Procise were the ones getting the rave reviews. I think it was Mike Frank who said that if Bryant wasn't a five star coming out no one would even be talking about him anymore. 4 games should mean he starts coming into the rotation around the time he would be getting meaningful reps in the season anyway.

Jimmy now owes two laps because damn was he wrong. I don't know if it's Bryant or his dad but somebody gets the value of the degree.

This was known for a few months inside ND circles.--per loy

if so, makes you now wonder if this was another reason cj was tried out at RB

This is the last thing he or the team needed.

That's a little overly dramatic, no? I agree that it's the last thing GB needs, but I can think of about 50 things that can happen to ND that would be way worse than losing your 2nd (3rd???) string RB who is almost potential at this point.

And he might just get Wally Pipped by CJ Procise. CJ could take this thing and run with it and never look back, kinda like he did against LSU's DB's. I'm extremely excited to see what he does, and now without worrying about taking Bryant's carries away (believe me when I say that GB is a giant headache when he isn't getting touches), this could be a great thing fro the team (and hopefully GB wakes the hell up and starts making better choices).

Eh. Four games? Should be survivable at the beginning of the year when presumably the rest of the stable is fresh and healthy.

Soo, the offensive scheme for the season was for Bryant NOT to get meaningful reps until game 5.

So who was to get the 160 - 200 carries in the first 4 games?

I hope GB can turn this thing around and get his degree from ND. As a 5-star recruit he appears to be just another in a string of 5-stars and other highly rated players at ND who never lived up to the hype. He may just spend the rest of his collegiate career on the outside looking in. Dexter Williams "Come on down."

Welp, this probably means that Prosise is a full-time running back now, and that makes me sad.

Also, not sure how great it is that we'll be relying on a true freshman as a 3rd running back for sure now, especially if we run the ball as much as everyone seems to think.

Two things.
He was probably going to get 6-8 rushes per game.
Could make running back rotation healthier down the stretch.

Let's not overreact.

My view is unpopular, but losing Greg Bryant for four games now that Prosise has materialized strikes me as close to minimum loss. [Except to himself of course, and that IS a shame]. If Tarean and CJ remain healthy, this "development" [which since it seems to have known by staff long ago SURELY stimulated the CJ shift] could easily turn into a real benefit. How?

1). we get a dynamic powerful slasher in the backfield who is a threat to house the football.

2). we might remove some sulking from the lockerroom and general team atmosphere.

3). we might be able to ease in a future-valuable freshman RB.

All three of those sound like gains not losses. And if "4" [5* RB gets act together and decides to make something real out of his shrinking career] also happens, the whole thing will be a huge win. --- and maybe the best part would be that GB would grow into an adult.

3 huge positives!!!

gonna need someone else to take over some PR duties while he's out as well.

was starting to find a niche with the team towards the end of the year in that role.

atleast we get a pretty good scout team RB for the first four games.

SMH. Just wondering, did anything like this or worse happen in that 2012 off-season? Thanks.

Any idea on what the Violation was?

Pot.

It was, although I didn't hear about it personally until very recently. People on the beat and actual insiders "knew a month(s) ago."

Yup, it really doesn't matter unless Folston gets hurt against Texas. Bryant was probably going to touch the ball 5-10 times a game with Folston healthy. Now, I imagine Folston still carries 20+ but CJ gets 10+ touches to spell him. RBs get hurt more than any other position though so depth will be really good to have later in the season if we run it as much as we're saying.

There's another name too that could be suspended too and he fills a role similar to Bryant at a different position... not really needed right now, but if injuries pop up he could be a value piece.

Will miss seeing him back there just because I still think he can be very good but I think Dexter Willams could be better. Loved his film and hey we get to see a freshman back play! All we lost was some swag, more over hype and part of koons goons bod squad. I swear there are some ND fans think he will win a Heisman before he leaves here. Already feel like he's been here for five years

Omm you make excellent point like always but I think Bryant brings a lot to the locker room. He's well liked by his teammates
