His recruitment really took off at the end of his senior year. The staff has been on him the entire time since then. We offered him within the same time frame as UCLA even though Nathan lives right outside LA. Not sure how you expect the staff to make him a bigger priority sooner. It has simply been an up hill battle here.

I'm basically saying that safety recruiting this year was terrible. I feel like people are now saying ND values him more than a lot of people realize, but I haven't seen ND go after a single safety prospect like they went after Lynch, Tuitt, or Ishaq in the 2011 class.

Flipping Redfield from USC was no small task.

I agree - it only took a National Championship run, but that was 2 years ago. ND goes into this season light on bodies at the position at one of their weakest units last season. Although they bring back a wealth of talent, depth and experience at multiple positions, safety isn't one of them. They didn't do anything to help themselves out through recruiting in 2015. I like Williams, probably more than quite a few on this board but they need more.

Kelly gives his assistants a lot of control over who we recruit and how. Since Cooks basically got demoted when BvG joined the staff, is it possible that he simply half-assed his recruiting obligations this cycle as he looked for his next position? He was our DB coach after all.

Don't take this the wrong way but I think you're having a argument with yourself on this one. Beau and I were simply commenting on Meadors. Nobody said that S recruiting was a success, so no real reason to go into that debate. In fact, I agree that it will most likely end, tomorrow, as a pretty poor effort. However, thats already been talked about at length. On Meadors, its a classic case of a kid that blossomed late and when his tape got out their we went after him the best we could. UCLA just so happens to be the home team.

ISD has an update saying that ND has made up some ground on Meadors. BK has taken the lead and is really working hard on Meadors. It's probably 50/50 now and ND has a shot, all because of BK.

That's truly awesome and I'm not being sarcastic, but everyone on this board who's a member from 2013 or beyond knows how this one ends.

Awesome news. Felt like we had a better shot than was being reported, since we basically started on equal footing with UCLA. Kelly's offering superior academics, tradition, and the chance to step into our two-deep immediately; versus Mora, who's offering SoCal glitz and the chance to be a hometown hero.

Kelly's success rate on recruits he's personally involved with is pretty high. My gut says we get him.

I think at the end of the day it's just going to be really hard to convince him to leave home with how close his family lives to UCLA. Our depth chart is sooooo promising though.... who knows.

Yes, it is not an indication of him choosing or not choosing ND.

However, doubt he was picking ND anyways.

Right, I wasn't saying Meadors isn't coming to ND because of this (he's not coming to ND though).

But in BK's conference when there was a fax yet to come, he was asked about it and said 'stay tuned'. I'm sure he'll get the same question tomorrow, so you can read into how he responds if you'd like.

Don't play with my heart like this ISD.

Nathan is apparently still in contact with ND coaches, BK specifically. Still seems unlikely, but there does seem to be a glimmer of hope.

Better than getting the kid on campus and having him be unhappy after Cooks leaves.

Is it though? At least we would have a true FS in this scenario. Can always convince him that ND is ND with or without cooks. Can't convince a kid who isn't on campus of that...

Plenty of teams do this all the time, wait til after NSD and you will see a bunch of Bama, LSU, Auburn coaches moving around.

Solomon: Recruits left out of options when coaches change jobs after signing day | AL.com

From last year:

Imagine the surprise Maryland recruits got two days after National Signing Day when they learned defensive coordinator Don Brown was headed to Connecticut. Recruit A.J. Hendy said he signed with Maryland after the school's head-coaching change because of the bond he developed with Brown.

"The first time I went up to Maryland I felt a real connection with Coach Brown," Hendy told The Washington Post.

The coach moves on. The recruit, if he signed the National Letter of Intent, cannot unless the school releases him.

If BK can pull this one off with Meadors having no clue who his position coach will be, I will be impressed.
