Indeed, as is Shannahan and some others. The 49ers have already conducted a bunch of interviews and I think it's unlikely that their candidate isn't from that list or one of the current playoff teams.

By "strong possibility" I mean "most likely candidate hired."

It's frustrating to me that there isn't more interest in the Bears for Rex Ryan. A defensive minded coach that took the freaking Jets to multiple AFC championship games (with Sanchise at QB, no less) should be considered, imo.

The Ryan name should always be welcomed in Chicago.

Same problems as Lovie though. He could never find a good offensive coordinator.

Rex Ryan is a sub .500 coach in NY ... Two winning seasons in 6 years. Terrible decision for buffalo. Should've brought in an Offensive mind like Shanahan or Kubiak, kept schwartz as DC, and figured out what they need to give up for a legit QB

In NY he had Snachez and no skill position players but a good D. Buffalo is in a similar position at the moment. I'd bet you'd take those playoff appearances over where Buffalo went in those years. If he can get Tressman, or a good offensive guy, Buffalo isn't to far away.

Jay Glazier reported today that a Broncos loss could make Fox available to other teams.

He hasn't been to the playoffs since 2010... His teams are known for their epic meltdowns late in the year. I bet Schwartz and Ryan not being able to co-exist happens before Buffalo makes the playoffs

He has been a head coach for six years and took an epically bad franchise to the AFC championship two out of the six. He has also finished second (in a division that includes New England) four out of the six years.

You're acting like he coaches a good franchise with a good GM and ownership. He's been coaching the freaking Jets, and made them contenders for most of his time there. Never once with a franchise QB.

He also is one of the best defensive minds in the game.

I think Ryan is a great defensive coach, but I'm not sold on him as a HC. He never did develop Sanchez, but more importantly, I think he's a little too emotional much like DelRio. Both of these guys teams follow their leads and when they can't keep their focus they fall short.

Kubiak just turned down the Bears. Strange. Was really hoping he'd close that opening.

He's had 2 winning seasons which were back to back in his first two years. Since then he's failed miserably or broke even. He's finished second in a division that routinely only sends one team to the playoffs. In the proceeding 4 years he hasn't finished with a winning record. His offenses are marginal. He has no track record of developing a QB, developing an offense, or the ability to hire competent offensive coordinators. His teams fall HARD by the end of the season as apparent in 2011, 12, 14. He's joining a team with an awful offense, no QB, no #1 possession receiver, shotty o line and the oldest RB in the league (though we all love Freddy). This team has no 1st rd draft pick and the GM is about as incompetent as Marrone... so what part of this screams success?

Really? That's shocking...what better job is he holding out for? He's not even a good HC.

^ This. Is he expecting to land the 49ers gig? Jets are awaiting Quinn from Seattle but the Raiders job of death is still open I guess. Browns maybe? On another note, Lebeau resigned in Pittsburgh. Any chance the Steelers go get Diaco?

Yes, that is a joke.

Turning down the Bears for Kubiak is crazy. Makes me wonder if John Harbaugh gave him an ultimatum like "if you interview, you're fired so you better get the job" and he got cold feet.

I'm praying Peyton retires if I'm the Broncos. They aren't winning the Super Bowl next year and he takes up a lot of cap space.

Kubiak to Broncos?

He was a great part of the Super Bowl winning teams! I hope they don't go that direction though. Not the guy I want as the head coach of the Broncos.

Agree completely.

I've read Kubiak is fine staying an OC, what with the stroke and all (but who knows...)

Jack Del Rio interview #2 w/Raiders tomorrow. 1st was with Mark Davis only. This interview is with Davis and Reggie both.
