Anyone think Nick Watkins gets pulled into action?

Redfield, Shumate, (Tranquil)
Luke, Riggs, Butler, Farley.

Surely someone else is gonna have to play right?

Not unless there's an injury, imo. Your point is well-taken ... we are very thin in the defensive backfield right now. But I would hate to burn Watkins's* redshirt unnecessarily.

Which is why the D must overcome the personnel challenges when an offense goes uptempo like UNC did Saturday. That's why we didn't see the exotic looks. Hell, I was sitting in the endzone and watched them hike a handful of plays before ND could get their entire defense in position. FSU doesn't go as fast as UNC, but you can bet we'll see more uptempo now that UNC showed it as a success vs our D.

I'm not worried about FSU up tempo. I was at the UNC game and you are correct. However, no one runs the up tempo like UNC. It would be hard for FSU to mimic UNC if they have't done it all year. Even the OC would eventually fall back to his normal pace if he tried to go that quickly. It's just nature. The UNC game gave the guys a good taste of it which I think will help immensely in preparing for FSU.

The more I read this week, the more I get the feeling this has become more than a football game. It's pretty much the entire nation against FSU, and many ND haters are rooting for them to win. This scares me even more if FSU embraces the "us vs the world" mentality all those great Miami teams had, and becomes cold blooded, instead of the thin skinned babies they have been all year.

Calm yourself son... most commentaries on this game include just as many "ND sucks, and I hope they get killed" comments as any other... At best the neutral fans are split.

Scary to think though, it takes a rapist who cheats, lies and steals, and has already won a title and a Heisman to make the country 50/50 on rooting for ND... the hate is that real.

Good point. I believe UNC's defense would be a little better if the offense didn't run so much uptempo. That leaves the D on the field for a lot of time..

my boy phork disagrees... but I don't... that headline is right on... It's clearly an important game for both, but it's all or nothing for FSU, not so much for ND.

Yep. fsu has no way to make up the L, because their SoS is shitty as they go ahead. Ours is better, even if ASU and USC aren't as good as expected.

1 loss ND might make the playoiff, if the loss is to fsu and is really close.

I think FSU can make it in at 12-1, but it will be tough.

Being defending champ, they'll get preference over an 2-loss team IMO. Even an SEC one. They beat the SEC Champ last year, and would be 26-1 the last two years. They deserve the benefit of the doubt.

They obviously would need us to go 12-0, so their loss is legit. I know people think that a 12-1 FSU would get in over an 11-1 ND, but that just wouldn't happen. They would also ideally need Oklahoma State to be solid this year (8-4 at absolute worst).

I think a 12-1 Oregon beats them out. I don't think a 12-1 MSU/OSU does though from the B!G. It would be a toss-up between them and a 1-loss Big-12 Champ IMO.

I think ND/FSU would be in the same situation with a loss. Rooting for the other one to win out, rooting against Oregon going 12-1, and needing the Big-12 and SEC West to wipe eachother out. Multiple 11-1 teams from Big-12 or SEC West would be very bad news for an 11-1 ND or a 12-1 FSU.

Help with Access to Game in Europe

Help with Access to Game in Europe

I am in Europe on business. Will be Riga, Latvia at game time.

Took off last Saturday during the 4th qtr. Luckily as I kept getting texts and checking the score while waiting on the tarmac for weather to pass, I knew ND was up 50 - 36 with about 2:00 to go. Didn't think it would once again get as close as it did. Don't know if I could take not seeing the game live again.

Anyhow, anyone have an idea of how to watch the game live in Riga?

Thanks and Go Irish!

I hope that the team is somehow preparing for the crowd noise. I'd hate to see a bunch of timeouts burned and Illegal procedure/motion calls. They have to get the damn plays in quickly as well. It's really their first true road test.

I seriously doubt you would find it on random TV out there... I would assume you have two options, try to find an American tourist friendly pub/restaurant that specializes in these things (long shot)... or you'll have to find a good streaming site

I think the best thing is First Row Sports. That's what I used when I was in Germany for the last time we played FSU.

BVG's got a plan to slow Winston down.

Each DL will have a magic marker and a stack of # 5 jersey numerals for Jameis to sign.

Just to put in perspective how good FSU's offense is here's a neat little stat.

In the last 22 games FSU has scored 96 touchdowns MORE than their opponents.

In the last 22 games Notre Dame has scored 74 touchdowns PERIOD.

Holy sh*t.

They are good. But Jameis doesn't move that well. We'll get him, or hurry him...then he'll throw to the wrong team.

The key is, stop the run...third and long. On our side no turnovers.

Lot of good quotes from Kelly tonight after practice. He seems confident.

In all seriousness what the hell do you guys expect? I mean I get it, Winston is a bad person, that's probably pretty certain now, but you can't dismiss a Heisman trophy winner for almost being caught doing something bad.

He was accused of rape. The police did a shitty job investigating it. Ok. That really sucks for the girl and for justice and its totally unacceptable. (I'll also add that it really sucks for Winston if he was innocent, because now it will be forever impossible to cleanly state that you were found innocent of the charges.) But are you going to kick the kid off your team for that? Nope. No way. In fact, there is pretty substantial evidence that ND would've done a hell of a lot more to protect Winston in such a situation.

Ok so next he stole some soda from a BK after he ordered water.... I'm pretty sure I did that last Tuesday. Next.

Next he played with BB guns and caused property damage. He was required to pay for the damage. This is the point where Winston starts to officially look like a dumbass. But he's still just a dumbass. There are a lot of dumbasses on teams across the country.

Next are stealing crab legs. Ok, now we have a crime. But the issue is that this is a misdemeanor. He was caught, he was punished, and he got a ton of national shit for it. He probably would've missed a game but it luckily happened in the offseason. This is one way that ND might have handled things differently, but maybe not. Plenty of ND players have been charged with more serious stuff and not missed any significant playing time.

Next he stood on campus and screamed a sexual sentence. FSU then suspended him for a game. Not because what he did was illegal, not because he broke any rules, but because FSU wanted to send him a message that they were tired of him being a dumbass. I thought the fact that they did this for Clemson weekend took a lot of nuts and I was very surprised at how proactive they were about it.

Now there are autographs out there. But none of them at this point can be traced back to him. And trust me, I get it. There are a LOT of autographs, and there is virtually 0 doubt in my mind that he wasn't paid handsomely for each one. But here's the issue. You can't prove it. And something tells me that if something similar happened with Everett next year, this board would be singing a very different tune. From the "he didn't, he's clean" crowd to the "I'm suddenly concerned with player's rights!" crowd.

So we have a total: 1 petty theft, 0 "real" crimes charged, 1 potential NCAA violation (lol), 3 counts of doing stupid college shit, 1 Heisman, 1 National Championship, and 19-0. And you guys are saying that the fact that he hasn't been kicked out of FSU is shameful? Guys, lets be honest, he wouldn't be kicked out of any major college football program in the country. The only thing shameful about FSU's actions is how bad their PR department is that they couldn't head any of this stuff off.

Man, after listening to Charlie Jones call the 93 Game, I wish that Musburger was calling this one.
