Anyone else really nervous about this game?

In all reality I am nervous about every game, but as far as an Everett Golson led team is concerned, I have a certain calm going into every game. He is a winner and I trust that he can get the job done. That does not mean that he will win them all, but we have a chance in every game as long as he is behind Center.

the only thing i worry about is EG getting hurt and freaky turnovers. If we play our game and UNC plays their game we will win.

UNC is a wounded animal who has nothing to lose.. So they will play loose and they have talent all over the field. So as usual I am worried about an opponent.

Per usual, i'm worried about Kelly's play calling. Regarding BVG, I don't worry about him being unprepared. He's a professional badass.

I worry each week too but there does seem to be something different with this team. Despite it being a young team I don't foresee a Pitt happening this year. We may lose a game or two but it won't be because we implode vs a average team.

Only thing to worry about this week is injuries IMO. Let's get a lead and let some of the vets rest the 4th.

I'm always worried. We lose next week hey notre dame isn't elite and can't beat the defending champs. We lose this week we are overrated pieces of shit who will have this upset stick with us when people talk about us. I'm more nervous for games when we play weak opponents because we still have the tendency to play close and every year except for 2012 have the mandatory wtf upset loss. Hope we fire on all cylinders and have a game like week one or two this week.

My only disappointment will be if we don't/can't run the ball and MZ does not get any reps.

Yep, I wasn't nervous last week at all(minus last drive). But every other game I have been.

Yeah... I thought Syracuse might be a "trap" before Stanford because it's natural to look ahead. The biggest threat to beating ND is itself making mistakes. And we played incredibly sloppy in that game and started very slow.

Now you have a North Carolina team that literally has the most talent on offense of any team we've faced up to this point... realistically, they're the only team that can really make us pay for playing single coverage and not getting home. UNC started 1-5 last year before winning 6 of 7 (and five of those six by multiple scores) to close out the season. So it'd fall right into their MO for them to start turning things around right now.

I saw some of them against Liberty, and also watched some of them versus VT and Clemson. Bottom line is that their pass defense right now is so bad that as long as we aren't wasting plays trying to run the ball I don't see how they stop us from scoring. It's absolutely atrocious on every level. And if we jump on them early and score 28 in the first half it doesn't really matter how our defense performs.

But there are stats of how teams do after playing Stanford and they're not good. The bottom line is that you're physically drained and underperform in the trenches on both sides. So I absolutely do have some significant worry about this game because their defense shouldn't be as bad as they've shown if they can fix the mental things, and their offense is the best we've faced, and this is a look-ahead game for us but their super bowl.

Also, ND is currently 4-1 ATS. So this would be a good "regression to the mean" type of game where we win close or lose.

Coach Kelly alluded to that in Tuesdays press conf, saying in prior years it was a hot tub day after Stanford. Not so this year, they did not feel beat up like usual.

One positive note from this years Stanford game is that, according to BK, we came out of the game in terrific physical condition. He mentioned something along the lines of years prior, when Mondays after Stanford were ice bath days for the team, and that it wasn't the case this year.

This is great to know and hopefully not coach speak.

No doubt with us getting them off the field quickly in so many 3 and outs that they weren't able to physically grind on our D like they do in most games. The 14 play drives are where you get worn down and beat up.

Unlike those two, Sheldon Day will be going against Kiaro Holts a teammate from Warren who plays on the o-line.

Anyone else really nervous about this game?

Nope. I think the days where we lose to 2 touchdown underdogs at home are over.

I agree with gkIrish. I've said it before, this team has a good mental makeup. They aren't afraid and the drive against Stanford was enough to solidify that thought if there was any doubt.

Golson will be pumped to go against his home state team. NC will give us a game for a quarter and a half. Then we take control.

Farley in the slot vs Switzer is scary.

It sure is. Honestly, if I were BVG I would not do that. I would move Riggs to the slot and use Butler outside. He got a few quality reps last weekend and I think he is ready for a bigger role, at least against a relatively weak opponent.

Another option would be using Shumate at nickel, now that Collinsworth is back.

But yeah, I agree that Farley cannot keep up. Unless we are worried about UNC's screen game or running game, I'm not sure I want Farley playing a lot of nickelback tomorrow.

I would not worry too much about Williams' ability to complete passes. They are averaging about 70, over half are run plays a game and he is averaging only 7 ypa and about 60% completions. when he runs he is averaging 11 ypc. Stopping the run, containing him and forcing him to pass is ideal.

Move Riggs inside and let Butler play outside.

Yes I have thought of that.

I was actually thinking about this the other day and I think the coaching staff might lean to this.

Well we will find out the game plan in 15.5 hours.

This has upset special written all over it.

Lethal weapons on the offense. First true dual-threat QB. and our offense that has been sputtering and shooting itself in the foot the last three games.

Let's hope our young men are ready to play on Saturday or we'll all be pointing fingers: at the OLine, Golson, WR drops, defensive failures, etc.

Switzer has had two decent games in a row, but he hasn't set the world on fire, either. With how well Farley has been playing, especially against screens and underneath stuff, I'm not worried about it.

If Switzer starts getting deep and abusing him? Different story, but nothing some adjustments can't solve. Plus, it's been a while since I watched them, but I think Switzer's best highlights come on short stuff and then making something happen after the catch, or on complete busted coverage. Not worried about either of those things... just his punt-return ability. But Brindza kept it away from Montgomery well, so I'm confident there as well.
