"I have three fractured, chipped vertebrae in my back from taking a knee back there," said the 5-11, 185-pounder. "My snapper snapped a ball over my head and I ran after it and dove on it and then another guy came from behind and I got a knee in the back.

Wow, that sucks! I hope he is going to be okay. Anyone take the other kid out behind the press box stands and shoot him?

Not as serious as it sounds. I spoke to a source close to the situation today and recover should be 4-6 weeks for Justin, and 6-8 weeks max. He will be ready for the Under Armour game in January.

Had a really similar injury just more severe from the sound of it. Fractured L4 and L5. Wore a full back brace (think body cast from waste to armpits) for 8 weeks and was fine. Key is to not stress/disturb your vertebrae while they fully heal or it can become a nagging injury.

didnt eifert have similar injury?

He did have a back injury from HS that became a problem early in his freshman year. At a PC Weis commented that Eifert would have a procedure done during Fall Break.

I don't recall that there ever as much detail revealed as here with Yoon. If I recall correctly Eifert and/or parents preferred a non-surgical procedure. In the offseason there was discussion about the recurring injury terminating his career but obviously he recovered sufficiently for a stellar career.

Thought Eifert went out to AZ for micro-surgery, a discectomy to be precise.

Micro surgery has been an option with neurosurgeons for almost thirty years, but in the last ten there have been incredible advances with the tools. From clams to scopes. I know because I have a relative that invented some new clamps, and such. This was while he was an undergrad. After he completed med school, during his neurosurgical rotation of his orthopedic residency, the guy he was working for told him about these great new clamps, and mentioned that they worked better and differently than the old ones, and asked if the student needed any help. My guy just said he had seen them, and moved on changing the subject. He didn't want anyone to know he invented them!

Damn that sucks. I've been there, Justin. My high school long snapper was laughable at best. He was responsible for me taking quite a few licks. Get well, sir.

Hope he heals fine. Could effect his kicking if it doesn't.

Tell you what, his high school is no joke. Seriously one of the 50 best in the country. He probably is all about the academics.

He's back and kicking!

He's back and kicking!

ISD reports:

Milton Academy (4-2) knocked off previously unbeaten Governor’s Academy 22-6. Yoon returned to action and nailed a 27-yard field goal. Milton is on the road this week against Middlesex (1-5).

I know it's hard to get excited about kickers, but this kid is a straight up stud. One of my clients that lives in the area said this kid is easily a starter out of the gate, and will be playing on Sundays in 5 years.

Watched those highlights today, he's got an absolutely ridiculous leg. Not even 100% healthy and he was hitting from 50 with ease. Brindza was solid his first few years but I'm ready for ND to have a consistent and reliable kicker for 4 years.
