This will end friendships for me.
I can only assume that the timing of this announcement is an intentional shot at Michigan.

Is ND trying to schedule itself out of the national championship picture?
So we will likely play Ohio State, USC, Stanford, FSU, and possibly MSU during one of those seasons.
AWESOME!
First, I totally agree. We are scheduling like every game needs to be a BCS game and that's dumb.
But, if MSU and/or Stanford are who they are today in 9 years I'll eat my hat.
While I don't agree with the name calling, the thrust of your point is not lost on me. Swarbrick just brass knuckled UM.y'all are a bunch of whiney bitches. Swarbrick just trolled the shit out of Michigan and y'all are bitching about how tough a schedule will be 8 years in advance.
This was epic level trolling, not only the timing but CBKs comments about it being an instantly national game.

You savor that thought in the Post Game thread in 8 years.
Stupid scheduling.
Seriously.... take my money. I will pay anything for this game. I. Can't. Wait.
Seriously. I am so pumped. I can't believe I have to wait 8 years for this.

Exactly. It's not like we're playing 2012 OSU, 2013 FSU, 2004 USC, and 2010 Stanford all in the same season.I'm having trouble following this line of thought... This game is simply taking scUM's slot in 2022 and 2023, right?
It's not like ND is scheduling these big name schools and playing them all in the same season. The schedule will probably be a lot closer to what we're used to seeing now than everyone thinks.
If USC and Stanford are still strong, and you have a big game against OSU, AND you end up getting a strong FSU on the schedule as well, that's not optimal obviously. But the chances that all of the current "traditional" powers are as stong/stronger 8 years from now is low, I would guess.
