Anyone else in this boat?

I think it's mostly the stupid academic investigation and the specter of this idiot administration vacating wins. It's also a large part having so many question marks and completely unproven commodities that could be anywhere from great to awful.

I think I won't be excited until we're either demolishing Rice and Golson has 4 first half TDs to go along with 2 sacks from Jaylon, or we're past Michigan 2-0. But my switch has not flipped yet... I even found myself accidentally making plans for this Saturday and completely not appreciating there'd be a game on.

Agreed. It's tough to get pumped for this when it seems like something terrible always happens at awful times.

I am totally with you LAX... the current state of college football, the break of the NCAA/super conference thing and the playoff all are seen as negatives to me also...

Never been this blah not just about Notre Dame but about college footbal in general. Maybe it's a good thing, healthier passions.

Father Forgive Them For They Know Not What They Say!

Willingham, Faust, Davie, Weis, Kuharich, ... wartime rosters AND coaching staffs ... Hesburgh, Malloy, Beauchamp, Wadsworth, White, Rooney ... Sonebreaker suspension, Golson expulsion, Ara losing half a dozen players tossed out of school for a gang bang, Holtz losing "The Greatest QB" 4 days before the season Opener, ... Rocket, Bobby Taylor, The Bus, Clausen leaving early for the NFL, ... Rockne's death, Leahy's "Retirement" ...

There have been much darker days. Many times.

You people sound like Miami fans.

Turn in your keyboards.

NEXT MAN IN!

GO IRISH!

ha, for the record, I stated a portion of my passion was related to the state of CFB in general, not so much ND.

Shame on some of you. I am excited to see ND hit the field... and I am a Bama fan.

So, you got hit in the mouth. Got pushed around a little. Dragged through the mud. Big deal.

Get back out there, play like champion today, and tell the world to kiss your ass.

And don't make a Bama fan tell you again.

It's football season. Opening day. First game.

IT doesn't get any better than that.

I'm actually opposite. New OC,DC, brand new playing surface. So many unknowns is refreshing IMO.

The "least amped for football" scale is in line with the "least excited for sex" scale.

It still blows away the level of excitement for just about everything else.

You're the best fan of another team we've ever had here, Tommy.

I hope you always stick around.

Go Irish... And fvck it...for Tommy this week... Roll Tide.

I'm sorry, man, but that's a you thing. The last time we started Golson at QB, we went 12-0 through the regular season. So if you can't get excited about seeing him back, and seeing how we do, this year, then that's on you. It's not ND's fault.

I'm so amped for this season. Exciting QB, new faces at skill positions, super aggressive defense. I don't know how you can't be pumped to watch this team.

It's fucking Notre Dame football. Pull your tampon out, Lax, and get excited! This roller coaster only happens a few Saturdays a year. Embrace it and booze your face off.

Love you, LAX, but...this^

Reading this thread makes me think about something i haven't really thought of before. Up until about 06' i just watched the games, would try to catch the weekly press conferences on UND.com and would check out some magazines in the bookstore before the season started. From the time the last game went off in Dec/Jan until the first game started in Aug/Sep i probably wouldn't get any info on ND. Hell i remember turning on the Maryland game in 02' and finding out Julius Jones wasn't even on the team. If Folston/Bryant had been off the team i'd have known for months and would be sick about it. Anyway now that i keep up with the team to a much greater depth i just now noticed that i do usually get more nervous and worked up over things i would've previously been ignorant to. Having said all that i have no intention of slacking off my following of the team because i love it and the good out weighs the bad but it does affect my blind enthusiasm i used to have when i tuned in on the opening game. Does anyone else get that feeling?

I don't care about no investigation. I don't care about no suspensions.

Football back.

I enjoy watching ND too much to not be excited. I start waiting for this sh*t as soon as the national championship ends. I don't care who's dressing, who's starting at what position; it's ND football, and it means I will unleash the passion of 1,000 suns every gameday.

This! This x 1000 ... F all that noise, couldn't care less come Saturday. I can't wait till Saturday. I can't wait to wake up and watch game day, put on the Irish hype videos, wear my Irish gear, drink plenty of Smithwicks, and cheer like a mother fucking fanatic at every second.

So many new players ready to make a new chapter in ND history and I'll be right there to watch it unfold!

Like GK said, pumped for CFB in general, but I'm also pumped for ND. Yes the academic thing has iced my nuts a bit, but I'm up as much as I can be for Rice regardless of the distractions. Excited to see the "new" offense with EG, excited to see all the young talent, uber excited to see BVGs new D....

Until we look like sheeite, or until we have a loss, I'm pouring a BIG F'ING GLASS OF KOOL-AID. F.... every team on our schedule. Playoffs baby.

I'm in the same boat as Lax. I'm beyond thrilled that football season is finally here, but my expectations for this team have been significantly lessened. Same thing happened last year when Golson was suspended; it wasn't exactly a bold prediction to say we wouldn't be in BCS contention. Same thing applies this season, IMO. Losing Russell is huge, and Daniels and Williams won't be easy to replace.

The offense should be good. The defense could be anywhere from above average to awful. I have no idea what to expect from them. There's just so many unknowns on this team, and the schedule is brutal. Nine wins would be an accomplishment, IMO.

That said, I'll still be watching the Irish (along with Virginia Tech) nearly every Saturday, because I love football. Because my expectations aren't terribly high though, I'm not as pumped as I usually am around this time a year.
