So is it not alternating dark green, light green with each row of turf? I was expecting this:

Can it be rolled opposite directions to reflect light different, thus making it look alternating? (Maybe that's a dumb question. Idk. I'm not a grass/turf expert).

I don't think that's dark green, light green. I think it's all the same color but they mow it in opposite directions so it lays that way and looks different when the light hits it.

Yea I posted that comment right above yours. It hit me after I thought about it. I knew that about the real grass. So I'm assuming they roll the turf in similar fashion to get the same affect.

I have been an Irish fan all my life. Since the early 70s. I am sort of excited to see how the new field makes them play. It could be really good.

I think that effect can be done with field turf. IIRC, OSUs field looks light/dark:

I am sorry. I cannot deal with this guy. I was thinking this was the best, most progressive article he ever wrote, then he had to tee off on Rudy and a gold field!

Boy!

That was kind of a weird story to read. Half the story is literally pro turf then it instantly turns into mock turf with Rudy parallels, but then ends with the ultra purist mindset... Just weird style of writing.

Yeah, glad I wasn't the only one who got thrown a bit by that.

I heard they have to re-do the field. Everything got misaligned.

Because Knute Rockne is rolling over in his grave.

It is funny how people use Rockne and tradition in the same sentence, and they forget that Rockne fought tooth and nail to get a state of the art stadium built while the priests drug their feet. Then of course you had the backfield shift and revolutionizing the existing forward pass feature of the game. Yeah, Rockne was all about tradition! Just win, baby.

Considering that your post is correct, I always wonder why the guy still writes about ND. Maybe the NDNation guys pay his salary or they are the ones who still buy subscriptions so he is there to placate them. Who knows?

No surprise, looks amazing.

Captain Jack should take a stroll through ND nation and also walk campus for the rest of eternity just like this:

That looks great. And that last picture makes it look like the greens are faded somewhat.

Ahhh, the modern era, finally. It's going to be beautiful.

I understand what you are saying, but........

modern era? Really? The University made a business decision to replace the sod that they were having to redo multiple times a year. It's not like ND has said, "To hell with doing things right, we'd rather win every game. That way our fans can feel better about themselves as they try to claim some kind of ridiculous superiority over their friends, coworkers, family, and acquaintances, who are fans of some other team."

If it helps with recruiting, that's great. But I don't think anyone should try to characterize this as some kind of fundamental shift in the University's values or priorities.

You got all that from "modern era"?
