Hoge is the perfect recruit that you want Tillery to be around.

So, according to the LSU 247 main writers:

- The visit Tillery had a couple of weeks ago was a huge success in the eyes of the Tiger.

- LSU admitted they know he values education over athletics.

- Sources told them that his family would support him if he chose LSU but ultimately it is Jerry's decision. (Note the wording, would support him if that's what he chose. Far cry from pushing him to LSU. Big difference.)

- Main reason for LSU's 'surge' is proximity to home, Jeff Grimes, and academic support. Yes, they said academic support.

Remember, his LSU visit was BEFORE Irish Invasion. Any 'surge' could've been wiped away. After reading the thread, my take is that it's more of a hope then it is inevitable. Sonny listed the 3 main reasons for the surge and its nothing ND can't fight off. He's been committed this long and being an EE, it'll end sooner then later. Rooming with Hoge is perfect and clearly done by design. Hoge is as ND as you can get.

*Randomly submitted in the middle of the thread was a comment that Stidham is on the verge of de-committing from TT. Sources for that were board chatter.*

That sounds reassuring about Tillery. Definitely glad he can't take it down to NSD being an EE.

If the bolded is true, I'll be ecstatic. Stidham is the only QB I thought had anywhere near the ceiling of Barnett, and I'd love to see him run our offense.

Weird. Isn't Oregon the presumed landing spot if Stidham decommitted? If so, let's hope Waller jumps on the Oregon offer.

That is worded a lot differently than what we have been hearing. A lot of positive to take from it, and as you said he is an EE so we will know sooner than later.

Interesting about Stidham as well. Especially since guys like LAX have been talking about some kind of QB carousel that could change where the dominoes fall. I hope it has a lot, or everything to do with an opening on South Bend. Nothing really to base that on, but until some of the insiders can get an interview with him it purely speculation. Thanks for the info bro.

Chatter about sunny days differ depending on who you speak to. It's info from the LSU board so its going to lean positive for them. While he still may head to LSU, I don't think its as inevitable as some on this board have made it to be. I think part of that has to do with just expecting it to happen due to history. LSU admitted he values education over athletics. They are trying to bring out their 'academic support'.

There was nothing on the board to suggest he is being pushed to LSU by his family (other then some random poster stating he knows his sister or something weird). It seemed to suggest his family would support him no matter which way he chooses. And right now, as has been for awhile, he is sticking with ND. That to me indicates that where his heart is. The LSU OL coach has been to his school and has talked to every one of his teachers. This kid is fighting the pressure hard.

Keep in mind he grew up an ND fan and with him being one of the few recruits that values education, ND seems to be the place he wants to go to. This could be all for naught and he could cave in and go to LSU and that'll be that but I don't think its as likely as some may see it.

I think our last battle is the homesickness and anxiety as NSD approaches. When it becomes more real he's coming up here, I think that's when LSU puts on the full court press. Stay strong Jerry.

This.
Of course LSU is going to keep on him, and it makes sense that he'd keep listening. But he also seems to totally get (and want) what Notre Dame offers.
I know our poor track record on actually winning these sort of in-state fights with SEC powers, but Tillery seems like a different sort of kid than most elite recruits, frankly. Aware that there's a wider world out there than football and Louisiana, and eager to get out and be a part of it. Maybe in the end that doesn't win out over the easier path of staying at home. But I like to think it will.

This is what I think. We may lose this fight, but it's a little different than others. Shades of Louis Nix to me.

We're still in good shape. He's had so much pressure that I would have expected to see a crack in the armor by now. As level headed as he is, if he starts getting pressure from teachers that could turn him off and backfire on LSU.

Christian from ISD just reported that Tristen Hoge's parents have been spending a good amount of time with / talking to Jerry's parents at the Opening.

It's a small thing, but can't hurt.

Jerry also apparently left the 1 on 1s with a minor injury. Doesn't sound too serious, but still sucks for him.

They now know they can stay at the Hoge family residence for home games. It's probably why they were allegedly pushing LSU...

I'd call that a BIG thing. Think about it. This isn't a line of rhetoric coming from a coach. It's parents of a commit telling them why ND is the right choice. I wouldn't be surprised if they offered them a place to stay for home games.

Well, he's probably sick to death of answering questions, on top of questions, on top of being badgered by everyone in the state of Louisiana......

There might not be more gung-ho parents out there, either.

What makes us think this isn't the Tillerys selling the Hoge family on LSU?

Definitely. I think he's finally at the point that all the LSU attention is beginning to negatively affect their status in his recruiting. At first, we thought he was wavering for a bit, but now I think he's as solid as he's been since he committed. LSU seems to be digging their own grave at this point. They still have a shot at flipping him, but that window is getting smaller and smaller each day.

Shouldn't read anything into anything that any recruit says with regards to commitment status. There are literally hundreds of examples as to why, and at least 1 ND example in each of the past few recruiting classes.

It is what it is for Tillery. We're in a battle (but obviously lead for) a top OT prospect from an area we don't recruit well. It's a position of luxury where a miss will not burn us, and we'll know when we know whether ND will be his choice. So hopefully we'll be happy come this winter, if not we've got plenty of capable guys in the stables.

Pulling top players from La is difficult but not impossible. But it would be wise not to underestimate the enormous pressure these players have to endure to "stay at home." I am sure Tillery is getting an earful from most every person he comes in to contact with on a daily basis. Hopefully he stays true to his commitment, but flipping at some point would not shock me.
