Anyone with rivals

Maybe BK pulled the offer bc a) the bullshit obviously but also, b) to be a wake up call slap in the face. If you really are as ND as u say this will hurt like hell and you will drop UO and come back. Force him to commit one way or the other.

FYI... I heard Steve Wiltfong on Sportsbeat 960 tonight...basically made it sound like this kid always loved Oregon growing up...drew pics of himself in their uniform...took ND as a hell of a safety school ... when Oregon finally offered it was basically just a matter of time as long as he had a good visit and heard the right things...so basically his zooming up the charts hurt us in the end...and as has been alluded to, sounds like there is no one who doesn't believe he won't commit to the ducks

So he trolled ND, Kelly, and staff.

Or at the least, Darbied us.

Same bullshit we've already heard. I rushed the decision blah blah blah. Kelly told me I was his guy so I wanted to commit.

EDIT: When Farrell asks him if ND is out he gets a bit sheepish. IMO, he must have taken some heat from Kelly and staff for jumping ship. Maybe I just read that into the interview, but his demeanor seemed to change a bit.

Did he flat out say he was not longer considering ND in this interview?

As opposed to Oregon, which told him "Our first three guys went elsewhere and we heard you used to draw pictures of yourself as a kid in our hideous, pre-Nike uniforms, so..."

Guys, I honestly think that Blake had become Oregon's #1 want at QB after spring camps, but they weren't going to go full blast on him until their other top tier guys were off the board, namely Kyler Murray.

Once he was off the board, Oregon turned up the heat even more for Blake. Blake had clearly already shown some interest to Oregon (they had been contacting Blake forever), but when he was the ONLY guy Oregon wanted, he didn't want to turn it down.

Does it suck? Yea. It does. He's talented, and he had done some successful recruiting for us. Worse yet, Oregon doesn't provide the academics of ND, why would you want to go to Oregon without Chip Kelly there (they underachieved last year), and I think the system doesn't prepare a QB for the NFL and I don't think that it fully displays all of the impressive attributes that a QB like Barnett has.

Anyways, get over it. We aren't going to stop playing football just because a kid decided to go to a different school.

My opinion only - no facts. Kelly pulled offer and told Blake the Flake: "Blake the Flake publicly announce that you are no longer considering Notre Dame OR I will announce publicly that Blake Barnett will not be attending Notre Dame. I am giving you a chance to look good and make it look like your decision. But, you are gone and you are not going to screw up my chances to recruit another QB by delaying and playing out the drama. Blake the Flake you walk like a Duck, you quack like a Duck, you are a Duck. Good-bye. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out."

Nope. BK can't make any comments about recruits until NSD.

I thought I remember Brady Hokester very stupidly saying they Michigan was no longer recruiting Yuri Wright after he got expelled from high school? Is it ok to state you are NOT recruiting a player and will NOT be recruiting the player?

Hmmm. I'm pretty sure you can't make any comments regarding recruits no matter the situation. I don't think there are exceptions but I don't know for certain.

kid musta really dug those Joey Harrington years

I know this is a joke but there is no way he could even remember him playing for UO. I'm 5 years older and a Lion fan and I barely remember the day he got drafted by the Lions.

BK would take a higher road. He may tell him to "shit or get off the pot", but he wouldn't go public with any of this.

Yep. Gotta wait on the NLOI to come in and clear. But nothing would stop a coach from feeding comments through the back channels. Highly unlikely Kelly or most coaches would do that either as it eventually comes back around. I would doubt Kelly engages in that type of communication when dealing with recruits.

I understand the sour grapes, and I'm still upset that ND lost a commitment from BK's prototype QB... but Blake the Flake is a thing now lol?

ND's got an awful lot of flakes on their roster if that's how it is lol.

To play devils advocate, here is the only thing Blake probably remembers. The ducks have gone 37-6 (3 of those loses by 3 pts) over the last 4 years. They have won the Rose and Fiesta Bowls, and looked like they were having a TON of fun. This really sucks, but it's closer to home, they have better facilities, run a more exciting offense, and usually spank everyone in their path.

Irish Illustrated has a video of Barnett explaining his decommittment. Anybody want to summarize?

Haven't seen it, but i bet I can nail it on the head...........

Committed too early.
Oregon dream school.
Always was a Duck fan.
Felt like this is the best place for me.
Appreciate the opportunity BK and ND provided me.

Did I miss anything?

Unless they changed the rule from last year, coaches can actually talk about a recruit by name once the financial aid agreement is in, and that can be done much earlier than NSD due to EEs.

It's crazy to think that some of these recruits that watched guys like Troy Smith, Ginn, Brady, Clausen, etc were 9 years old when some of these guys were on the field.

My understanding on that is if they are EE's then the coach can comment since they are already enrolled. Non EE's still have to clear before the coach can comment.

Couldn't find the official rule, but this was the instance I was thinking of:
Butch Jones Acknowledges 2014 Commit On Twitter

Thomas was one of four players to take advantage of a new NCAA rule allowing them to sign their financial aid agreement early.

The agreement guarantees the player a scholarship at the respective school, but does not officially bind them to that school.

That apparently makes it ok for the coaching staff, and likewise the university, to acknowledge Thomas and other commits that sign their financial aid agreement early.

Last year they could sign the agreements on Aug 1 IIRC.

I think Blake saw the spring game and realized that beating out Malik for the starting job in 2016 won't be easy and decided to go somewhere that the depth chart looks a lot better for his chances to actually start in 2015. Mariotta has 1 year left so unless Oregon has a stud waiting to take over in '15 then Blake likely will be a freshman starter. He wouldn't have had that opportunity at ND. No way he would beat out 2 year senior starter in Golson and if Malik gets a lot of PT the next 2 years then he probably wouldn't beat out Malik, either so then he is looking at having to wait another 2 years for Malik's eligibility to run out before he gets his shot. Honestly, I don't blame him for wanting to go to a school where he has a great shot of being the man right away. Even if he's not scared to compete, I just don't see a freshman (no matter how good he is) beating out Golson in 2015. Or Malik if he ends up winning the job in August.
