Can't wait until he commits, then USC and Auburn come calling. I love California recruiting.

(I don't love California recruiting. I sorta wish ND would stop recruiting that state completely.)

Nation's No. 2 Dual QB Travis Waller Talks ND Offer

"I talked to the head coach Brian Kelly, the recruiting coordinator and the quarterbacks coach," Waller said. "They told me I fit their offense. They said I've been on their board since November, even though Blake (Barnett) committed early. I was a guy they knew about and have been watching for awhile."

Plans on visiting ND and OSU this month. Also wants to visit Auburn and Alabama.

Northwestern, Bama, and ND are his high interest schools. Wants to decide in July

Hasn't heard from Oregon recently. Thinks Barnett is headed there
Hasn't heard from USC recently.
Auburn his evaluating him still as the next Newton/Marshall

Cool that he's already talked to all 3.

Well, since the TX QB was also offered, which do we prefer?

I like that they're both slightly higher rated composites than Barnett, lol.

Auburn his evaluating him still as the next Newton/Marshall

Auburn: "We've evaluated your film and we think you can be a smaller Cam Newton."
Waller: "But isn't size what made Cam Newton so special?"
Auburn: "Perhaps a slower Nick Marshall..."
Waller: "Hmmm...."
Auburn: "I can see this isn't working out. You might be more comfortable at a school with classes and stuff."

Great Kid that we would be lucky to have. Excited about this offer. Also stud basketball player but quit after soph year to focus on football. Best football is ahead of him.

Allen Pinkett disagrees. Every successful team has at least one serial killer on roster. How else are you going to cultivate a killer instinct?

TX v. CA? Hrm... I'll have to think about that one.

I predict the newest catch phrase will br 'from California, do not want'.

Clearly BK doesn't fear California, so let's also tuck our dicks in and go for it.

Not saying he's better than Blake because I don't think he is, but Blake had that wind up motion, and I think Waller's is a bit better than his.

He does, but bare in mind that these kids will get much stronger. Go back and watch Malik his junior year and that summer during camps. Then compare that to his arm during this years spring game. Night and day difference.

So does/did Blake. I would think it could be cleaned up in the next few years

Sorry if it sounded overly critical. I have absolutely no problem with a little weirdness in the motion (I think it's way overblown when mechanics are a big turn off), especially when it will improve with coaching as Lucky notes. Malik is a good example, as is the comparison to Barnett's motion at this stage.

Tebow had an absolutely horrific throwing motion, and I would take him every day and twice on Sunday (because church).

As the earlier article was referenced, if Waller is your backup plan, you aren't hurting too bad. I think he will be good after a few years with BK and Cram-it-up-your-Cramhole Lefleur.

I expect eithier Auburn or OSU or both to offer if Torrace Gibson commits to Tennessee. With his current offers, I think he's almost a lock to ND but those offers would make this interesting as well as a USC one (though they have 2 QBs so I don't why they would offer).

White has a much better release and appears to have better velocity on his throws. It's interesting because Waller looks much more comfortable throwing on the run than planting his feet and ripping from the pocket. His footwork is not good in the pocket, and his release has a hitch. The ball doesn't explode off of his arm like Blake Barnett or even Golson. Seems to throw a great spiral with touch.

He's got a Tebow-like release. He sort of pulls it back before he throws it. Fixable IMO.

Is it though? Tebow never fixed it. Then again, Tebow DOMINATED college soooo....

I'll watch the rest of the film when home from work.

I don't get all the pissin and moanin about his release. It's college. WGAF? You can win a lot of college FB games with the the Elephant Man if other things in your game plan play out right.

ETA: how's that for fortuitous post timing?

Yea I don't get it either. ND won 9 games with Rees as their QB. Waller has way more raw talent than he could ever dream of. There's plenty of flawed QB's that have success in college.

Barton Simmons on why he CB'd to Notre Dame:

- Has no inside source, just a prediction based on what he knows about Waller
- Waller truly values academics, as does his Mom (that was from Wiltfong) which why he is truly interested in Northwestern
- Waller wants the big stage, which is why he is interested in schools like OSU
- He fits NDs system
- Simmons thinks ND leads for St. Brown

He looks too much like Winston Bishop from New Girl for me to take him seriously.

Agree.

This board was so giddy about BB and how he had the most upside and was undervalued (rated). Now were going after higher rated guys and that's better. The range of emotions and rationalizations on this board keep me laughing.

Many of us thought Blake looked awesome and could really have been special.

1) Once I found out that Zaire being was an ultra-confident competitor with some real skills took a lot of edge off of recruiting a QB this year.

and

2) This is pretty clearly an awesome year for QBs- lots of high quality kids and while the recruiting services agreed BB is a stud, but still ranked some kids higher. The fact that we are in on some of the kids who are ranked higher is unexpected and reassuring.

It can be but Blake's arm is substantially stronger, IMO.

Waller is raw. I just watched those videos, and I can tell you that the arm strength is there.

Waller steps off of his back foot and does a very poor job of carrying through on his throws EXCEPT on rollouts where naturally he turns his body and follows through to complete the throw.

The really impressive stuff I see with Waller is that he is very raw and simply lacks technique. (I don't mind this at all now that we have a quality QB coach in LaFleur.) His touch passes are incredible though, and those seem to be the only type of throw that cannot be taught. I can teach a kid how to zip a ball, but putting the perfect combo of velocity and loft to complete that 12 yard pop pass over a linebacker but under the safety is a real bitch.

Waller is also small in the chest and shoulders. Him continuing to grow and train will only help.

I think he has a very high upside, and I would love to have him on board.
