I don't know the inside story on Barnett but it just seems like this is mostly due to the depth chart.

Oregon has two QB's announce that they are transferring during the month of May and suddenly the depth chart is relatively thin when Mariotta leaves.

I'm guessing he thought ND's depth chart was almost made for him thinking that he could redshirt one year and step in when Golson would leave. The talk that Zaire is giving Golson a run for the starting position, may have caught Barnett by surprise and may have made him think twice.

No info, just speculation.

This is a good point.

Not going to lose too much sleep over this one, although it would have been a nice luxury to have...also may have hurt us with bringing in a stud QB next and IMO Blake is a very good high school QB with a high ceiling, but he is not in the same class as Eason.

As for the state of California, I think you do have to continue recruiting it, but I would consider putting much more emphasis into Texas where UT is struggling (we'll see how long that lasts with Strong there now), A&M about to take a big step backwards, and Baylor tech and rice typically not players for the best talent in the state. We have been making inroad there the past year or so, and I would continue to plow ahead and lay pipelines there while continuing to recruit Cali, although with less emphasis.

It's not depth chart. It's the same depth chart it's been for months. ND didn't hardball him either. They tried hard to keep him. Called on for reinforcements even.

It's a shady business. Not the first time Oregon has been involved in some shady dealings.

It's not the same depth chart it's been for months. Maybe ours is, but Oregon's definitely isn't. They lost two QB's in the past month. That's a pretty big change.

I follow recruiting through ISD and this site only. I love the insight and opinions you provide and the passion on this forum is second to none. With that being said, my opinion on film is limited and my knowledge of who's great and whose not is virtually worthless.

Although, I punished myself by watching BB's film and found myself depressed at our loss! I then watched Eason's and realized the good lord will continue to produce kids with talent. I don't care if a dual-threat QB is all the jive, after seeing Eason lay down touch passes and piss rockets all over the field, I am feeling pretty optimistic. Full-court press!

Just my 1 1/2 Cents! Stay classy Irish Envy!

Lemming's theory was that Oregon didn't push hard for Blake until their first choice Murray verbaled to Texas A & M
Top Notre Dame QB recruit Blake Barnett decommits - South Bend Tribune: Recruiting

One prime choice who recently landed elsewhere was Texas standout Kyler Murray, who last week committed to Texas A&M. In fact, CBS Sports Network analyst Tom Lemming believes that Murray's commitment to the Aggies could have affected Barnett's situation with ND. Murray, according to Lemming, was high on Oregon's wish list.

"I think (Barnett) is mesmerized by Oregon," Lemming said. "Oregon didn't make a major push on him until after losing Murray."

Mariota has to be the most overrated player in the nation. A lot of people have him as a top overall pick next year, its disgusting.

Oregon without Chip does not have a lot of sense. Dontre Wilson made the right decision. They were destroyed by Stanford, Arizona and they showed signs of being a weaker team than past years. His recruiting also is not as powerful as used to be three, four years ago.

That's what happens, when you have to stop paying for big time recruits.

Barnett doesn't deserve to be referred to by those sacred initials. Those are for Beau and I only now.

Well, that's a relief. I was beginning to think the 2014 offseason would be drama free.

But seriously: Fuck that troll Hopkins. Fuck Oregon. And just for good measure, Fuck Michigan.

Onward and upwards fellas. I have faith that Kelly and Co will put the 2015 class back on track in short order. Oh, and major props to Malik.

Okay, we've went through all of the emotions, love, panic, hate, rationalization, spite and finally "who needs him".

What's next?

Acceptance and a locked down thread? Hopefully we see new QB offers out soon so we can turn our attention to guys who might actually suit up for us.

Hopefully Saban pisses all over Hopkins dreams and swipes Barnett away from Oregon. It's unlikely but a guy can dream. TTown, send your best bagman with the deepest pockets.

This is from May 22nd interview with Scout.

On the recruiting front, Barnett gave an early commitment to Notre Dame but said two schools are still recruiting him.
“I’m still hearing from Alabama and Oregon,” Barnett said. “My commitment is rock solid though, I have no interest in taking any other visits except to Notre Dame. I’ll be there for the Irish Invasion camp and then of course I’ll take my official visit in the fall.
“If I took a visit somewhere, people would start to question how strong my commitment to Notre Dame is and that’s the last thing I want. I’m trying to recruit guys to Notre Dame, not have anyone question my commitment so I’m locked in and very excited to be with the Irish. I’m graduating early and I’m excited to get going.”

Now he is "open" and not considering ND at all. Are Cali kids just flakes or did he honestly get setup on his trip. Because he's either bi-polar or he just got paid in Eugene.

17 with "communications" (i.e. the whispering eye) vice-gripping the fame brain-drain.

It happens. Over it.

It's fucking beautiful in South Bend.

17-18 year olds can't always get a pass because of their age. Can't commend them for their maturity and intelligence one week and then give them a pass the next.
