Even Loy has given in and CB'd him to Oregon
Buck up fellas. A week ago we all thought Loy was an idiot, and now we're taking his CBs as the gospel. As recent as 2 or 3 days ago, I read a rant from someone on IE about how silly the whole CB thing has gotten and how it wasn't a good predictor of anything. He's our recruit until he says otherwise. Let the staff do what they do. Let them scuff up some of the luster from that new shiny visit.

Loy is one of the biggest homers with his CBs on the 247 network. If he thinks he's gone, he's gone.
This!!! Everyone keeps talking about QB's to the league from ND or Oregon. I think an important reminder would be the O-Line Haul the last few years, the current incoming class, and next years committed class. A quarterback is only as good as the line in front of him. ND's haul has been top 3 last 3 years. Thats what I am hitting home with Blake, along with the TE, and possible WR talent.
This might be the straw that breaks the camel's back for me when it comes to following recruiting. I just don't know how to care anymore before NSD when the vast majority of prospects we target have huge flip risk and even the ones that are "solid" can turn 180 degrees in a hurry.
ND got absolutely worked on this one. Oregon is known for recruiting through "mentors" (Lache Seastrunk, anyone?) and in this case they did an absolute dandy with misinformation. You're much more likely to believe it when it comes from a "trusted source" than a coach with motive.
Let's break down the non-Barnett quotes in the last Hopkins updates...
-"Despite his public comments, I continued to link him to Oregon at the ire of nearly everyone else." Sure sounds like he cared an awful lot on which way this turned out...
-"South Bend is a long ways from home. While Eugene isn't right next door, it's clearly a much closer option. Barnett doesn't need to live next door, but flights to Eugene will be much easier for his mother and father." Total crap. Portland is a 2.5 hour flight from San Diego. Chicago is a 4 hour flight. 1.5 hours of difference is largely irrelevant, because neither is a day drive.
-"Despite the world-class facilities and long-tenured coaching staff, it was something else that grabbed his attention" They have a brand new coach who is just trying to ride the coattails of an offensive genius?
I mean... come onnnnnnnn... he's not even trying anymore.
Sure sounds like we lost. It is what it is. I'm just salty over how exactly it is that we lost. "Mentors," misinformation, glitz, and fluffed up crap majors. It's the quadfecta of crap I can't stand in recruiting.

I love college football Saturdays.....the games, the players, the friends and the booze. I hate everything else that college football is and has become.

You sound like an adult who has lived a little Pachuco
So Hopkins earlier today CB-d Travis Waller to ND.
Now that punk bitch has changed his Waller CB to cloudy, lol.
Troll.
He must have heard about this and bailed.

Nicely put, totally agree.
I've been thinking the same thing lately. I've reached a point where I no longer trust anyone to stick with his commitment. And don't get me wrong, I almost never blame the kids ... it's just that the process is such that I can't get too invested in the players too early on any more.
I've also kind of "checked out" on recruiting. Wasn't any one thing, but the cumulative effect of all the shenanigans. I don't feel like committing to a school should be a two step process. You should be able to sign when you decide, any time you want. Failing that, they shouldn't report on "verbals" prior to NSD. The system they have no makes no sense.
