Except they are losing their best receiving threat and their running back. Aren't they losing their best pass rusher too?

Yes, Chase Thomas, but they have a ton of young, talented depth coming up at all those postions especially RB - see Barry Sanders Jr. and Remound Wright. That is not even mentioning the monster OL they have recruited and the much improved DL and LB depth they have gotten. Only place I see becoming a problem for them is in the secondary if they don't have a solid '14 haul there.

I agree with there quality depth. What do you think about their receivers? I don't really think they have threats on the edges

Yeah I don't think they have singular talents out there that will scare anyone to death, but that's not really their goal in WR recruiting anyway, right? They want solid, high character guys who will catch the ball when needed, but do all the little things really well. The TEs and running game is really where they make their money on offense.

That's key in a ground and pound/methodical/clock controlling type of offense. It really is all about the little things.

I will put this in a couple threads, I watched and re-watched the noon Kelly interview. I think Kelly tips things off, if you can read him. And I think I can. I believe he feels that one of the best things about this class is the hidden talent. He outright said that Will Fuller was all of that. Here are the ones that Kelly thinks will be monsters before they leave: James Onwaulu, Corey Robinson, and Isaac Rochelle.

I am getting the feeling that he thinks that Rochelle has as high a ceiling as any defensive lineman he ever recruited.

He is blown away by Onwaulu's hidden characteristics, not limited to but including his beastly strength and conditioning. This kid can do things that other elite athletes cannot.

If I gage it, I would bet that BK has actually spent time thinking about whether Corey Robinson will end up better than DGB. This is guy is a Brian Kelly gold mine. He is on a totally different trajectory than DGB and just about any other wide receiver. (Yes, that was a little bit of my personal opinion, but hardly any hyperbole at all!)

what does that mean exactly? Not sure I get it...

I want to believe they had multiple coaching staffs in their "war room" act like they got a big time recruit and if/when the recruit signed with said team ESPN would show the taped footage. Quit the production value. Should be up for Emmys this year. "Best Taped Acting Like Your Happy Award".

I know these kids get stronger in college, let's see how much bigger Altee Tenpenny gets at Bama. Will be interesting to see. This may not belong here on this thread but I just had to post it.

Whiskey, what is OFC? And is that you posting as 'Whiskey'?

OFD = One Foot Down. It's the ND blog on SBNation. It's edited by Whiskey (different guy) and Eric Murtaugh (our own Rocket89).

Thanks.

I think they have James O. overrated, Fuller about right, Robinson underrated and Tori significantly underrated. I really love Hunter.

I think they have everybody underrated. But it is all good. That just leaves Onwaulu, Robinson, et al., room to prove everybody wrong.

AND, Mark my words this crew, front to back is going to be devistating in the red zone. I mean like nuk-u-lear. I mean like BOOM! Makes you wonder if that wasn't for a reason, don't it?

They are usually pretty fair over there, and the comments section is always entertaining.

James Onwaulu, will be faster than anyone thinks, and functionally, pound for pound the strongest of the incoming freshmen. With his early start he will be able to contribute early and often. Watch the spring game . . .

DID YOU KNOW: Phil Steele employs team specific bloggers?

Well, he does, and his ND blogger just published an article grading the 2013 recruiting class:

Overall

Notre Dame needed a bunch of good offensive linemen this year. Check. They needed one stud running back. Check twice. A top tight end was needed with Eifert graduating. Check twice again. Getting a quarterback that fit Kelly’s system would be nice. Check. They also needed some depth at wide receiver. Check again.

Offensively there was very little Notre Dame missed on this recruiting season. They did not land a Top 100 guy at wide receiver, but that was it. Even there, at a position where Notre Dame has some experienced players returning, the Irish signed four guys with intriguing skill sets. Robinson has the size and the bloodlines. Hunter has speed and lineage. Fulller can really run and has good hands. And Onwualu is a tough, smart competitor.

Running backs Bryant and Folston could both make impacts in 2013 and I would not be surprised if Bryant worked his way into the regular rotation by midseason. Zaire needs time to develop at quarterback, but with Golson entrenched as the starter, time he has and his style fits well in the Notre Dame offense. Both tight ends were coveted by many of the country’s best programs and the offensive line is loaded with highly ranked guys that also look like championship level linemen.

Some have called this the best offensive class Notre Dame has signed since the Holtz era. Others will point to the 2008 class which had three five-stars on that offensive unit (Michael Floyd, Kyle Rudolph, and Dayne Crist), but was not as strong as this year on the line and at running back.

Either way, no one is disputing that Notre Dame did a sensational job recruiting the offensive side of the ball in 2013. So obviously….

Grade: A
