Yes, he did make a comment about ND football being a powerhouse but the track program is not. Don't know how significant that single factor could be in his decommitment, given that the track program wasn't a powerhouse for the past year either.

He's alluded to the relationship with ND's staff changing in recent months. He hasn't elaborated on that thought. There is speculation that he and Coach Cooks didn't exchange any more than a hello at the UA game and that perhaps he was upset about that. That has not been reported, just speculated by some folks on other boards.

My only thought is that perhaps our coaches were growing impatient with his drawn-out visits to other schools (September through January) given that he was maintaining his commitment to us. That, though, is the way the game is played sometimes, and the only thing I know for sure is that Darby is an absolute stud and he possesses a skill set that we desperately need. We still have an in-house at our disposal and Ronald has said that he'll still consider the Irish. Let's let the process play out from here.

Exactly. I know guys on here like to play the "not the end of the world card" but if we want to be elite again, we need to land guys like Darby.

I know you guys all love the 3 star guys and you'll talk about "potential" all day...but fact is we need guys like Darby (not him in particuliar, but of his caliber).

I know its a part of recruiting...but I hate losing guys like this...

I understand what you are saying, but we are in the mix if not in the lead for studs like Wright, Poole & Redmond. It's not like ND is sitting with the hands on their ***. I say sh*t or get off the pot.

I hope we are in the lead with Redmond, but it doesn't look that way down here. The coaches are going to have to blow him away for him to flip from MS State. Just my opinion and I hope I'm wrong. I would love to see his speed at ND.

Just read on the Scout page for MS State. It says on there that he is done with his recruiting and he will not be taking any more visits. I do not know how to post the site, but it is an article on their Scout page and Robertson is the author.

Darby backs away from ND pledge | Inside the Irish

If there’s a bright side in all of this, this Irish coaching staff has had success bringing commitments back into the fold, namely with Tuitt and Aaron Lynch in the last recruiting cycle after heated battles. Darby reopening his recruitment could also open the door for blue-chip cornerback Yuri Wright, Shumate’s Don Bosco Prep teammate who some recruiting services view as a better player than Darby, and a recruit that’s got Notre Dame at the top of his list.

If you love some thing like he said he did you just don't turn your back on it.

Man some guys on here can talk themselves into anything. There is NO alternative to Nitro. Are there good consolation prizes? Yes. Are there any guys who could bring what he would? No.

Don't a lot of schools have a "no official visits after you commit to us" policy? I'm pretty sure Michigan lost a TE/DE prospect this year because they enforced that policy.

That was Charlie's old policy.

Kids today seem to want to take all their visits and I guess I've accepted that many will take visits after committing to ND. I don't agree with it but this is the world we now live in and it sometimes actually works in our favour.

I mentioned this yesterday but I'll mention it again... ND honours scholarships even if the kids get hurt and can't play the sport they were being recruited for in college. IMO... they should continue to do this but tell kids that they are ok with them taking visits but that if they do go ahead with these visits ND will not consider them to be committed should they get injured in their senior year.

While i still strongly believe theres a good chance our staff gets him to come back to the family i am also not losing sleep over this. Next man in philosophy theres plenty of kids that can take his slot maybe not as highly touted as Darby but have all the potential to be great. We are ND, we will survive and prosper.

Yeah...I'm tired of just "surviving". I want TO WIN.

"Surviving" attitude is why we go 8-4 every year and can't beat good teams.

We need to get out there and be agressive and get top recruits with some attitude and swagger. Like Darby.

Think you took the surviving part out of context, it was meant for the people that seem like it's life and death to lose a recruit.

Oh, I got your point. I was just saying that we need a more "killer instinct" attitude rather than this "We're ND, we'll be ok".

Ok isn't good enough. And neither is ND right now.

I agree completely but remember we are not coming out of a slump we are coming out of an F'in ice age.. We are on the right track with out a doubt. Along the way we are going to win some recruiting battles and lose some. Theres no way 1 kid makes or breaks who you are as a team.... If you believe that you will never be a "TEAM"....

I think we have been getting them, but we have to continue to get them. Keep adding more and more and we can be like we were again.

Lynch, Tuitt, GAII, Nix, Ishaq, DD, etc. All have it. More of our players do to. We just need to get more and more.

If we keep our verbals (which looks to be hard work) Tee, Deontay, Russell, Shumate, Decker, Day, Jones, and the guys look to have it too.

I love this class, as I did last years, if we keep them we have another impact class and we are on our way to the top once again.

Lot of good things going on at ND right now, we have to put in the hard work recruiting/winning attitude on the field/and us as fans don't go off on kids if they leave. We didn't go off on Amir and Jordan for switching course. I really want Darby, and hope he comes back because he can be a major impact. But, if not Tee is that much more important to be an early and instant impact.

Go get them Irish!!!!

While I don't disagree, it definately hurts when you lose your top recruit. A guy like this is a playmaker that doesn't come along (especially at ND) very often.

We desperately need these "speed demon" kinda guys when we can get them

My biggest disappointment with the Darby decommitment is that ND has developed this national reputation of lacking speed and athleticism pretty much all over the field. This area is clearly the target of this year's recruiting efforts. And IMO Darby was the poster child of this movement (DGB has also catapulted himself up there).

I just want so stinking badly to get pure, raw athleticism all over the field on both sides of the ball, and Darby would have been a huge step in that direction. And these have to be guys who love to compete and go balls out every down, and I believe Darby is that kind of player.

There are other highly-rated guys we can get to fill the CB slot, and I'll be very happy if/when one of them commits. I just don't know that any of them represent Darby's skill set (Redmund is the closest), which can't help but feel like a setback to me.

they don't mean as much considering our field is specifically designed to hinder their speed.. if we get a different field (turf), then these athletes become much more valuable.. as is right now, skill might be more important, but what do I know?

Probably know more than me....HAHAH....

But it's still nice to have a guy with Darby's skill set. He can do so much.
