Donald Sterling is not a progressive thinker

The outcome will likely be nothing. Dude has a massive history of racism and being sued for racial discrimination. This honestly was just on par for people who are familiar with the asshat.

I'm going on the record right now to say that if I one day own a team I will be ok with African-Americans in my owner's suite.

But will you let your significant other sleep with them? Because Donald Sterling does.

More seriously, I wonder if the Clips players protest at all about this whole thing.

I have a feeling there will be some outcome to this. This is being widely reported as news, unlike some of his past indiscretions. Also, his team is predominantly black and they are going on the record as being pissed; the head coach is black and one of the most liked and respected people in the game, and he is pissed. Magic Johnson figures prominently in this story. You have a league that is collectively much more sensitive to this kind of thing than it has been in the past. And it is happening during the playoffs, which is the league's showcase for most casual sports fans. My guess is you'll see some reaction.

I don' think they can make him sell the team, but he is going to get disciplined in some way.

Sterling has been a d-bag for a long time. Wetzel (one of my favorite writers) had a good piece today on his history.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>My column on Donald Sterling, bad words and a history of far worse actions: <a href="http://t.co/mU8cc8RDJz">http://t.co/mU8cc8RDJz</a></p>— Dan Wetzel (@DanWetzel) <a href="https://twitter.com/DanWetzel/statuses/460114182122131456">April 26, 2014</a></blockquote>
<script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

In 2009, Sterling agreed to pay the U.S. Justice Department a then-record $2.73 million to settle allegations his companies targeted and discriminated against blacks, Hispanics and families with children in renting apartments in greater Los Angeles.

In 2005, his company agreed to settle a similar racial discrimination suit for an undisclosed sum – "one of the largest ever obtained in this type of case," according to the judge – and a reported $5 million in plaintiff legal fees.

He's been sued multiple times by individuals on racial charges. The tape is just the latest in a near endless list of terrible comments people have relayed, often on the record, through the courts or media.

In 2011, a jury rejected a wrongful termination suit brought by longtime general manager Elgin Baylor, but it did contain Baylor's allegation, which had nothing to do with the case, that Sterling tried to control the race of his tenants because, he allegedly said, "Black tenants smell and attract vermin."

That is such a weird audio. It almost sounds scripted.

Donald Sterling seems to be an enormous piece of shit.

I'd love to see the Clipper players refuse to play their playoff games and demand trades.

It's terrible timing for them as a team. They seem to playing at a high level right now. Hate to see a team's momentum die because of their idiotic owner.

Not trying to defend him at all, but why would an extreme racist allow a black person to be the head coach of his team? There are plenty of qualified white coaches out there--I just find that aspect of this situation confusing...

The real question is what can they do? You're right, they can't force him to sell, although they may try. He's worth $2 billion, so fining him is a waste of time. I don't believe he's active in the regular operations of the team, so you can't really suspend him from anything. We shall see I guess

Did anyone listen the audio clip?

It isn't just the racism, something is really off in his head.

Just a couple of things. Not that it matters, but when was this audio recorded? Just curious. Also, Sterling is still married which makes the pictures taken of Him and his girlfriend in public even more weird. I guess his wife is cool with it? Finally, who the hell recorded this? It has to be the girlfriend, right? Nothing has been confirmed yet though.

NBA > NFL

David Stern saved the nba and now has it set up to be one the most followed sports leagues in the world, matching soccer.

NFL has become a bunch of pansies since Goodell. NFL is all about branding.

I'm not even sure why this is news...........

So the guy doesn't want his girlfriend (who is a minority) to advertise that she hangs out with minorities? The guy's obviously a retard! But, let's not forget that he is also making quite a few minorities multi-millionaires. Being a retard is not against the law. I don't know what people expect anyone to do?

I understand that this comes down to taste, but you do realize how much of a minority opinion this is, right? The NFL is completely unparalleled in its popularity.

Harris Poll -- NFL still most popular; MLB 2nd - ESPN

35% of people list the NFL as their favorite league compared to 6% who list the NBA.

If he was talking globally, he is absolutely correct, but in the United States, the NFL is far and away the most popular league.

If that ends up being true… I wonder if Sharpton will still plan on going after him.
