Hi everyone, just wanted to tell you guys that unfortunately I didn't get in. Thanks for all your support though.

Thanks for the update. I remember how difficult that day was. Keep in mind that you're accomplished enough to even be in contention for one of the most prestigious universities in the country. Be proud of that.

Let the dust settle and if you feel like ND is the place for you no matter what, PM me. I will walk you through the entire process of transferring.

4 years ago on this Saturday I got the letter from ND. It's a life changing experience, good luck to all and remember to enjoy your 4 years wherever you go because they've gone by way too fast.

Chin up, big guy. There's no shame in working you ass off for a dream. You've got a great list of schools to pick from.

Same offer to you as I made to cpnd1, think for awhile and come talk to me if you want to entertain transferring.

Ditto Rack Em et al. I was very much a late bloomer but enjoyed the transfer process, never felt the slightest difference between me and the rest of the student body once I got there, and have been thrilled with the ways in which I've been able to leverage my ND degree since graduating. Notre Dame isn't for everyone and not everyone is for Notre Dame, but if you can get the two to align, you're in for a real good thing, so don't count out that path even if it isn't made available to you right away. I'm also happy to field any PMs about the decision and about the process.

Just come to Temple and Philly it up with me! Where there is little school spirit and its an adventure every time you walk home late at night from a party! (seriously gotta watch your back). Just kidding it sucks here, go far far away.

I know that it probably stings right now, but I promise you'll look back on this with zero regret. You worked your ass off, set yourself up for a good life, and you may have an opportunity to apply there for grad school in the future.

Enjoy college bro, it's great time.

Lots of good schools out there. Take it from someone who has always loved ND but never even thought of applying: you'll always love ND and you'll love your school, too.

I really appreciate the imput guys. Thanks.

Anyway to make matters worse somehow I got waitlisted to Fordham. Makes zero sense. They might have been my #2 I guess.

Think I'm going to take a mental health day tomorrow.

Sorry about not getting in. I didnt get in either, but you are still irish at heart. I am still going on to accomplish my goals and you will be able to as well.

The pain will finally go away. Just keep focused on your goals and you'll get there.

I think the part that is going to suck the most is telling all my friends and extended family that I didn't get in. I feel like I let my dad down soooo bad. He's a alumni, all his friends sons and daughters got in, and here I am getting waitlisted at frickin Fordham.

Fordham is a really good school but I understand. My buddy had the same experience. His dad and both brothers got in, and he went to Xavier.

Your going to do fine. You can transfer if you want or you will a find at your new school

I assure you your dad is proud of you‹. It's nice that your standards are set so high for yourself but I assure you life goes on and you'll likely be happy things turned out the way they did.

Don't be so hard on yourself. You didn't let anybody down, and I'm sure your dad is proud regardless of where you go to school.

I think people would feel let down if you let this minor setback ruin all the momentum you have built leading to this exciting moment. Embrace it, enjoy it, and forge your own path.

I was in this exact boat. It will suck at the beginning, but I assure you that you will be better off for it.

I absolutely agree with this poster. Your dad is damn proud of you. Things happen for a reason. Who knows---you may wind up at ND at some point anyway (e.g. transfer, grad school). Or you may go somewhere (e.g. Fordham), blaze your own trail, and fall in love with the place. I've had some personal disappointments in life that I've later looked back on and thought, "You know, good thing that didn't end up happening after all."

Just learned that a transfer can't choose the Mendoza college of business anymore. BS

Quite ridiculous but whatever. The most important thing is to make the most of your education whether it be at ND, Oxford, or a random directional university.

They are changing the transfer into Mendoza rule.

Starting in with the class of 2019 (I think), people can be put in Mendoza based on two things:
1. Performance in HS (SAT's, and some other things)
2. Performance as a Freshman (at any school)

I bet it will be difficult to get into Mendoza as a transfer, but it won't be impossible.

Everything happens for a reason man.

My dad is an Alum too and would have loved for me to go there, I actually chose to not apply because during my time there I did not feel it to be the school for me. Don't get me wrong, I love the University and the campus but you just kind of 'know' where you should go.

I ended up choosing a small elite liberal arts college and due to my connections there, the door to a Fortune 10 company was opened for me.

Rally, I think you are trying to help, but this is not the same thing ...

But I agree with the first part, everything happens for a reason. Like I think Classic Irish said earlier, I've missed out on opportunities that I thought I really wanted and needed, and looking back in hindsight I realize that I'm better off for having gone a different route, after all. It's hard to believe right now but someday you really will be glad things worked out the way they did.

My heart breaks for you dudes, but only because I know you are bummed. Hang in there. If it helps, I will let you in on a little secret: it doesn't really matter where you go to college. It's the same shit everywhere. You guys are good dudes from good families who are going to work hard and be serious about your lives (and play hard in your spare time because if you can't do that what's the point of working hard?) and as long as you find a place where you feel comfortable, you'll have a blast and be successful.

Others have covered it but don't sweat it man. You are a bright kid and have a bright future no matter where you end up. I was not a transfer but I will offer you any advice or help that I can. Pound a beer and get ready for college and don't worry about it.

One of my cousins just found out that she didn't get in. She'll be the first in her family that didn't make it. Parent's both met on campus and graduated together, their first two daughters got in and one graduated, the 2nd daughter will graduate this year, third daughter got denied. She's been pretty upbeat about it, she's getting scholarships to Vilanova, Boston College, and it looks like she'll get a full ride or mostly paid for spot at Saint Marys among other places.

College admissions are totally random at the top, it seems. God puts you where you were meant to go. High school me was set on the Ivy League. Circumstances of acceptance and finances sent me to Notre Dame, which I wasn't high on when visited/graduated HS, but now I wouldn't have had it any other way. I was as broken up about not getting into Princeton as you would think anyone could be, but now I'm glad I got deflected off a course that in retrospect probably wouldn't have made me nearly as happy as I thought it would.

Our own STLDomer turned down ND for Xavier, IIRC. There is something in the water down there ...
