Anyone ever fill out a FAFSA form for a college student? I just went through it with my fourth. I, (or her mother) will have to sign legal forms until after she is twenty-one. And that has more to do with them insuring they get their money back. So I am pretty sure that we are talking the same thing. If the student athlete doesn't meet his end of the bargain, someone needs to be held on the hook for that cost.

Ethics? No. Industry? Yes. It is all about money. Ever try to get a loan of 50k when you are 18. Just my take.

here's an ethics bomb for you can you commit to Navy, Army or AF to play football without parental consent?

Yeah I don't see why they wouldn't have to sign a letter of intent so yes, they'd need parental consent. Plus they're aren't officially in the military yet.

The academies do not offer athletic scholarships so no NCAA LOI is required.

If the student is under the age of 18 in order to attend the academies require a parent sign a consent form. It has nothing to do with athletics.

Report: Malik McDowell planning to visit OSU, FSU; Michigan still possible

Today, Greg McDowell told Rivals that Malik is “open” to taking additional visits to OSU and FSU, who were his other finalists, along with Michigan. Greg McDowell said U-M is still in the picture, too.

“We plan on doing some unofficials and see if he and his mom can resolve this,” McDowell said. “It’s possible she’ll be open to Michigan State as well, so we’ll have to see.

“We plan on getting down to Florida State as soon as possible, and with Ohio State being a three-hour ride, we’ll drive over and sit down.”

McDowell took his official visit to Florida State on Jan. 17 and his official visit to Ohio State on Jan. 31.

It's strange. On a day where we find OSU's Mitchell transferring to be with a very ill father, we are reminded of this atrocity. Perhaps the McDowell's (all three of them) need a reminder that family comes first, as these are the people that will have your back your entire life. I hope that their relationships are not permanently strained over this fiasco.

you know things are messed up when a parent wants his kid to go to FSU to keep out of trouble

I know there's a joke there, just can't come up with it yet.

The way Urban likes recruit's asses, I am thinking the McDowells by sitting down, are showing they mean business. Like helping the coach keep from getting distracted.

You are welcome.

What a mess. I feel bad for the kid. I understand the concerns but this has to be embarrassing for him. I'm glad he is going to get to go the school he wants to go to. I hope he does well.

That is why I never understand why ANY professional athlete would risk even the slightest chance to their careers by riding ATVs or motorcycles.

I really hope he has the ability to earn a living doing what he loves to do and can do it for a long, long time but I am equal parts sad and dumbfounded simultaneously.

Further proof that, in general, a drama filled recruitment = bad family/immaturity/flame out

Huge bust for Seattle. That pick could've been an OL that'd be a starter right now. Instead they ended up with this clown.

his accident was the beginning of the end for the Carroll era i think. They are snakebitten and need to start over.
