I never fault a blue chip who wants to stay home, especially one that pics a low performing in-state team out of loyalty to state.

I'm just throwing this out there, but I wonder what type of expectations Saban set for him if he were to commit to Bama. He clearly wanted our staff to "make him eligible" and while that might not be an issue at Bama, it was a clear and public acknowledgement that he expects the school to be responsible for his success.

Saban, for all of his faults, doesn't seem to be an enabler when it comes to effort. Elam certainly has red flags in that department.

If a donut and a double cheeseburger can get Elam going, I am sure the sight of some championship rings and the Wall of Fame at the player's facility could help. Instead, he can stare at all the banners in Rupp Arena and eat hot dogs and popcorn watching the basketball team at UK compete. That's as close as he will get to a championship anything.

always felt after seeing one his very first on camera interviews that there was just no way this kid was leaving home.

It's funny that it's just now official that he committed to Kentucky when he's clearly been committed to Kentucky Fried Chicken for years.

The McDonalds big board is in tatters after this. Coach Ron ain't happy.

Elam ate NDinLA.

No beans will, unfortunately, be spilled.

Yep. I was looking forward to the dish.

bump 4 NDinLA

I received a PM from another member last night reminding me LOL. Unfortunately my wife is sick and in bed, and Dora is about to end, so I'll have to get to it tonight after my daughter knocks out.

It's not earth shattering stuff; it's more of validating how this kid works and what his character is made of...all of which you already know. Give me a couple of hours...

OK, not muvh, but these are two stories I was told from someone who is about as plugged in as you are going to find. This is not corroborated by anyone else, so take it FWIW. But this guy never bullshits me, and was dead on about the McKenzie saga before anyone else, and is usually dead on about pretty much everything else as well:

1. A coach (not ND) who was recruiting Elam made a scheduled visit to his house to pay him a visit and to continue to recruit him. Elam, bringing out his inner Seantrel Henderson, made the coach wait in his car for THREE HOURS while he hung out with his friends. Such a punk-ass move, if true.

2. BK did his in-home with Elam. They start talking about Elam's transcripts, and Elam is straight fucking up in school. As in, "I'm a big shot, I don't need to worry about no school" kind of attitude his senior year. So BK is basically like, "Look, you have to work with us here. This just isn't cutting it. And this kind of effort isn't even close to what you've got to produce to get by at ND."

To which Elam said, "Well, that's your job." In other words, it's the coaches' job to make sure he's eligible to play. BK was incredulous. And with that, the Elam recruitment came to an abrupt ending. Wait, I mean, Elam quickly went on twitter to announce he dropped us lol.

So when you hear BK's comments yesterday about recruiting players who want to graduate with a ND degree, IMHO he's talking directly about having to deal with recruits like Elam and McKenzie. Those guys just will never cut it at ND bc they lack the grit (among other things) to persevere and get things done at a university that will make them earn things in the classroom...

Maybe this is just me seeing things fit after the fact, but the Elam-"dropping"-ND story did seem pretty abrupt at the time. It didn't smell right.

Bullet dodged. Elam needs to get his shit together. If any of that stuff is true he's in rude awakening. Glad BK ended it there.

How so? You think UK is going to make him work in the classroom?

All he has to do is play football.
