A lot of people here are in for a rough ride in life. People make mistakes. Hope you aren't on the wrong end of the stick someday!

When I do end up on the wrong side of the stick, I hope I get a second chance to fuck up again. Then once I do, still have people think it's ok.

It is a big deal because regardless of how it happened... It happened. A year after the EV fiasco should have put these people on "red alert" for any miscues that could be embarrassing to the university. To let this type of thing happen shows a complete lack of oversight. Completely embarrassing and whoever is responsible should be fired. They had their second chance after the EV stuff... And this is what they did with it. Inexcusable.

It's not a question of whether it was truly a mistake, because the public perception is that it did.

don't be so sure that you know who should be fired. you have no idea who is responsible and what the circumstances are. get a grip buddy

I get that you want the guy fired (who even says it's the same guy?), but you need to chill, Dude.

regardless of what all you apologists say or how you downplay it....this just can't happen.

it just can't happen.

first the pimple faced intern put out the EV commitment last year-12 hrs before the kids declaration)--setting in motion the EV nightmare...and now this.

it's unbelievable, really

I don't think it is a "big deal," but it is pretty incompetent to put out information that is either flat wrong or premature. I think you could setup the page (which I understand is necessary) but maybe not add the "LOI received" line until it actually is. This is nowhere near as bad as last year, but because of what happened last year it is pretty dumb.

They weren't released. Someone messed around with the URLs by inserting names for prospects considering ND and found them. Not hard to do.

This is a complete non-story to me.

As someone who has some knowledge of web publishing, this is possible. However, you have to move that data into the appropriate link to make it happen. I would have hoped they would not move the data into production until they have the LOI. This only take a couple of minutes and what's the difference if a commits link is active 1 or 3 minutes after getting his LOI? Saves some embarrassment.

Got a friend who works on these pages... ND prepares them for all undecided's, even Garnett had one. JJ thought he would break a story and post a mock of John Smith to garner some attention to his twitter page regardless of his allegiance to ND. This is sad, but make no mistake, these kids will not all necessarily commit to ND, as evidenced by Garnett's url that is now down. Do yourself a favor and unfollow this guy.

This isn't a life or death screw up. You are going to make a lot more than one mistake in your life. If you fired everyone that made mistakes, you'd have no one working for you.

We'd have fired Diaco after the Navy game.

I agree. I'm surprised it was moved into production at this point.

I don't believe that at all. That's borderline tortious conduct if true.

There was a page for Garnett. All three pages that I saw had faxes "in" at 9:34.

This is all of the info we need. It was a mistake, it's embarrassing, but that's it. Unless everyone is wrong, this kid was never planning on coming to ND so it has no impact on recruiting.

Don't tell me to "get a grip". Last time I checked, it was ok to have different opinions. No reason to be a prick.

But now we're gonna use it as the reason why he didn't sign with ND LOL

How Wooly thinks this happened:

Coach Brian Kelly: "Now listen Mr. Mistake, we got Juju's LOI in today but don't press the big red button on your desk until he announces. I have full confidence in you, let's just forget about you printing off the wrong pamphlet last year."

Mr. Mistake (dressed like a hobo with clown shoes and big glasses): "Thank you sir" Drops his briefcase which spills out papers into the hallway... "I'll do my best"

BK: "Alright just relax."

Mr. Mistake goes into his office and trips, sending his briefcase flying. Briefcase lands right on the red button!

BK comes running in and sees papers everywhere, and a computer screen saying Juju has committed.

Mr. Mistake: "My mistake!"

*Laugh track, freeze frame*

Roll to credits.

Luckily it really hasn't blown up like the EV thing did. Looks like it blew over already.

Because ND didn't release it to the press. Some reporter was anticipating the [WEB ADMIN] guy took the easiest possible route, and he was right. It's a lot differnt, even if its pretty sloppy in light of what happened last year.

I totally agree. I don't try to judge these kids prima donna tendencies, but that would be over-the-top.

It only makes ND look bad because every teeny, tiny, little negative thing makes ND look bad. You know why? Because its a little bitty Catholic school with only about 12,000 students that has historically outperformed many publicly funded schools, both in the classroom and on the football field and that proclaims itself to be a bit different than its peers. Notre Dame has hypersensitive haters and hypersensitive supporters.

This happens at State U, no one gives a fuck and no one is shitting themselves calling for heads and jobs.

Tend to agree. ND holds itself out as special (whihc may or may not be obnoxious: "humbition") and it rubs people the wrong way, so they enjoy seeing the school squirm.

The "IT guy" is not reponsible for web administration. The web admin is.

I think people are so upset because they had no hope, but now they've got recruiting blue balls.
