This is no longer an issue. Move along, people! Theres nothing more to see here, drama averted.

except the guy that we're counting on being our #1 target next year is missing spring practice with the QB that missed all of last season....coupled with his already troubled pass of picking up BK's playbook, which was documented by Kelly.

yea he's coming back, but i'm disappointed he will not be there for spring ball

I think he'll be okay. I'm sure Golson will find some time to work on routes on their own to keep the chemistry going, and if not I expect DD to work out hard and learn the playbook like the back of his hand.

The point is right now, whether we like it or not, our point of comparison is Stanford. They've found a formula of winning with high academic standards that I think we have, minus these key suspensions. For the most part we do an outstanding job of keeping our athletes successful in the classroom, but there's always room to be better and our benchmark, whether we like it or not, is Stanford's program.

The standard is Notre Dame.

One that through the years has been more successful than Stanford in graduating football student athletes. ND's football graduation rate is 97% while Stanford's is 90%.

Scout.com: The Bootleg's 2013 Graduation Rate Analysis

Stanford has had the good fortune of two very good back to back coaches in Harbaugh and Shaw but Stanford has had good coaches in the past, like Bill Walsh, but has never sustained success as a program.

They've also had Luck in recruiting. Time will tell if that continues. It hasn't through the decades.

As for academics, both schools require 16 core courses. Stanford requires a higher test score generally around 1000 based upon my observations tracking recruit test scores for two decades. So unlike you I'm not making up specious statements about winning/academic formulas.

With a staff to monitor, tutor, and assist these players I find this situation perplexing.

as much as we'd like to think that these players are under 24 hour watch...that simply isn't the case.

kid's need to be a little self responsible.

We got us a Nervous Nellie. Let the shit play out.

I love watching DD play, and think Golson/DD throws could be legendary, but put me over in the Nervous Nellie category, too.

So DD will be in the summer semester (**crosses self**); can he practice and do that? (Is it even a given he'll get enrolled again for summer? EG seemed to make it his life's goal, and his was honor code violation, not academic.) So I'm a little concerned for DD's ND career.

I wish him the best, regardless.

Can we not whip ourselves into a frenzy here? He was suspended, which usually means the University expects him back, no? They're not gonna put undue obstacles in his way. Barring bad news in the future he'll be on the field next fall.

I was wondering that myself. So does he have to re apply next semester or is he just automatically back in? I think I remember that EG had to re apply. Is this situation different?

Well said. I get what makes places like ND and Stanford special...but it just sucks that the only place you can find someone who also gets it is at a tailgate with like minded individuals. Nobody else mentions such things as graduation rates and academics while talking football. I grow tired.

I'm betting this helped him make the decision to stay. Insane how many guys are leaving early, not to mention the WRs that exhausted their eligibility.

This is probably implied, but does this mean he'll take summer classes and pick up right where he left off in the fall?

Like to hear that. When kids like this make this type of decision it tells me that they are smart and see the error of their ways. They don't go into that whiney "all about me" routine and look for an easier path.

Good to hear. With Golson back driving the bus, and the chemistry they seemed to have prior, I think he could be a top 3 WR in CFB next year. If not the best.

Yeah I would think so. Once reinstated he's full go. Might have some extra time on Longo Beach.

i would hope with his NFL bloodlines that he has a decent idea and a number of resources to hopefully stay in decent football shape over the next few months.

Please baby Jesus let his feelings stay this way and not change over the semester...

Kelly had a meeting with Davaris and his parents when this all went down, and they were furious with Davaris and adamant that Davaris would be back. They have not always had a great relationship with BK, so this was a great sign that they were serious about DD getting his stuff together instead of blaming the school. DD will be back, no doubt about it, and hopefully he will come back a different, more serious and dedicated football player, as has Golson...

Ah great news. Sometimes, that little kick in the nuts does wonders.
