I'm sorry because I'm sure this has been answered elsewhere, but if we take 27 (including 2 EEs) does that mean we can't take any EEs in the next class? Or would that not matter because those EEs could count towards 2015 with the rest of their classmates?

EEs can be counted against the last class but they don't have to be. Just means his number counts to the class he is a part of a la Barnett in 2015

Yeah, ND could still take EE's next year. The EE's don't have to count toward the prior year...they simply can count toward the prior year.

After the bowl game, seniors (or players who have left the team) don't count toward 85 man scholarship allotment anymore. Almost always, 85 is the main number to worry about-- not each individual class number, EE's, etc.

No offense, but who cares at this point?

Given all the unknown changes that will occur to the roster, it's an ignorant question.

Then don't answer the question or respond to his post in any way whatsoever. No need to be an ass to him. With the news today about BB being an EE, I'm sure multiple wondered about it. People come here to "talk" ND and football. That's what he was attempting to do.

You're missing the point.

There's a 25 player limit each year. Therefore, if we signed 27 minus 2 EEs, that'd be 25, potentially meaning we wouldn't be able to add EE's from the class of 2015 since they'd put us at more than the limit for the class of 2014.

Again, I think this is a pointless hypothetical discussion since signing day is still a month away. I don't need 20 posts discussing something that is barely indirectly related to the point of the thread, which, by the way, is meant to be an efficient method to stay up to date in the days leading up to signing day.

All due respect, I don't think many people care what you need. And, by the way, what is that? Saving a few more clicks on the down arrow to scroll down? Seriously.

EE's can count toward 1 of 2 classes, so I'm not missing the point, you are. Again, BB is planning on EEing, so people may wonder about the impact this class has on next year.

The guy asked a simple question and you're being an ass about it.

I'm done here.

How is it ignorant to want to know a rule? The person looking for information is being called ignorant by the person providing none and shouting him down?

Yes! I think they saved a bunch of money on their car insurance by switching to Gieco. HAHA!

Chill out my man. You've posted negative comments in like 3 or 4 threads in the last couple minutes. The sky is not falling

So is getting Golson back, hiring BVG, keeping Elston, Alford and Cooks from leaving, adding Nyles Morgan to a very good class, and hearing Isaiah McKenzie's situation looks a lot better for ND now than it did a week or two ago.

Look at us

Updated. Now have about 4-6 open with very few realistic option and only 4 legitimate 5th year candidates BEFORE transfers.

So look at us coming into this year with around 80 players on scholarship unless we start revisiting guys we passed on or throwing out contingency offers.

Not to be a pollyanna, but isn't a real silver lining here, that we may have extra openings for the 2015 class, which we're off to a really strong start with, which, combined with a decent season in 2014 (with Golson back, increased experience from underclassmen, and health returned is a reasonable expectation), means we have a good chance to pull a rock star class, esp. given the nature and quality of the three guys we have so far (who can help with recruiting)?

Sure. Until we lose half those players in year 3, by transfer, or to injury. Story of the last 2 years.

A 12 ounce glass.... half full, or half empty, still only has 6 ounces in it.

Sure. Maybe. Sorta.

Looks like ND will be coming in wayyy short of 85 (let's be honest 1, mayyyybe 2 spots short of 85 isn't that big of a deal....anything 3+ really starts to become an issue during that season though) for the 2014 season. So while the 2015 cycle may get a boost, the actual 2014 season will have ND start the season ~80....then dwindle from there as injuries occur.

I think perhaps the ideal scenario this cycle would be to sign a max number (without reaching/bringing in a kid just to bring in a kid), and bring back 4 5th's to help with the numbers next cycle.

ND's issue the last few years hasn't been the team numbers-it's really been an issue of the line numbers, especially the OL. They've been fixing that successfully. With the young guys already on the team and the recruits coming in, the staff will start to massage the DL numbers and make it fit. Ummm, they'll have to.

That only matters if ND can win enough games to put a HR class together...

Something that is bothering me is this line that I continue to hear about not taking somebody just to take somebody. But with the way the offseason goes for ND they should be taking 3 star guys with interest to build that depth. They may not be the rock stars to start out, but they can sure become the hero when there isn't anybody else at that position. Enoch Smith is a situation I am reminded about with this. He may have eventually went elsewhere anyway, but with a commitable offer we might not be looking at having nobody in this class to fill the biggest void. I love the kids we get to play, but we are obviously missing opportunities that hurt us. A body for depth and development should not be frowned upon as much as it seems to be from all the reports though.

Ooh, I forgot about that guy. I have totally lost track of his recruitment but I wonder if we'll reach out.
