Instead of 'Notre Dame commit' next to player's names, let's just put the % committed they actually are.

For instance:

Jay Hayes: 100% committed

Tyler Luata: 70% committed, 30% confused

I really believe if anyone is a threat it's USC. He wants to play with his boys. Am I right, NDinLA?

I thought I remember a lot of people agreeing with you, with about half the people affirming that he should still be considered a "lock" and pop soon... I guess I'll have to read back. I know I said many times this whole saga made me uncomfortable and it felt like our DaShawn Hand... a guy who was a "lock" but there was clearly something amiss behind the scenes.

Part of what I was telling Lax was that USC didn't want him. I won't go into why until he officially decommits, but USC (with sanctions, mind you) wasn't even recruiting him. It's revisionist history for him to say that he's "willing to give USC another look if Sark wants to", when the old regime didn't even want him. Really, he's just begging to be recruited at this point with his buddies.

Wake me this is over...

Any chance you could PM me why they didn't want him? Seems bizarre with their current class and issues.

Well he can't commit to Bama or USC. So if he comes sweet and if he doesn't sweet. I have always been meh on him.
I still think he ends up at ND and is just having fun.

If I was Denbrock, I would call the kid and tell him that when he committed, he saw it as promise. If he visits USC, then he isn't being a man of his word, forcing him to pull our offer.

Then... Balls in his court. If he wants to see if USC wants him, then that chance better be worth losing (note... Not "risking") his ND offer.

Agreed on all this. I want him because the staff wants him, but I won't be devastated if he doesn't come because I don't think he's a critical recruit to this class, and in any case I think he will end up at ND. He just wants to visit SC with his buddies. Why wouldn't he. Honestly, it might all be so he stays close enough to Juju's recruitment so he can convince him to come to ND.

I highly doubt that him visiting USC with JuJu would help in that recruitment. Obviously it shows that he isn't serious about ND and that won't help with JuJu. If anything, it would make ND seem like a riskier bet. Shoot, our current commits even want to be at USC. At least, that's how it could look.

This.

If USC offers him, he's gone.

Also should reaffirm to everyone where Juju is going. Not sure why some big names in recruiting are still optimistic.

If the kid visits USC I hope he goes there. It would confirm he is a wonderful fit there. Only wanted him on d anyway....

ND will be fine with or without him. If Juju and mama and and other guys from the area are going to USC I get the interest. His school this was all hype. They had talent and they didn't put it together. They made all these videos and had all different kinds of uniforms and it didn't translate into anything.

If he takes that visit ND should say thanks but no thanks! Go all in for Dalton if neither come so be it, our TE situation is fine.

This is my take as well. Don't commit to ND and then basically beg on twitter to get an offer from one of ND's biggest rivals. Don't want.

No, Juju and Luatua are not just casual recruiting buddies but close family friends. They talk about their recruitments with each other. Juju wouldn't have to read into Luatua's actions to figure out what his motivation for the visit is; Luatua would tell him. My (half-joking) point was that if Luatua goes on the visit to SC and fully understands what Juju likes about it, he is in a better position to argue the relative merits of ND.

But let me emphasize that that was half a joke. Luatua most likely just wants to go on a fun visit to a fun school with a couple of buddies.

And if by some chance we lose him to SC, it won't be the worst thing. We don't really need two TEs in this class, especially the way Kelly is raving about Smythe. 2014 -- Niklas, Koyack, Smythe, Heuerman, Weishar. 2015 -- Smythe, Heuerman, Weishar, Blankenship if necessary, incoming frosh. Plenty of bodies, plenty of talent.

I don't want a commit that takes a visit elsewhere this late in the game to be part of our class. Especially if he isn't an elite player.

don't get pulled into the drama. classic recruiting BS like this happens every year.

staff offered & he gave his verbal after some serious time and consideration. imo, that has to count for something.

he's 17/18, loves attention and the sark hire is the flavor of the day.

ND will find out who honors their verbal on signing day.

Not if UCLA has anything to say about it

The unfortunate thing would be if he's taking a spot that could go to Schultz, and then drops us.

I hope he visits with every USC recruit and their brother then stays with his committment.

I think he is a linebacker anyway. Schultz, more than enough room.

this always screws us though because we don't over sign or take more commitments than we have openings to adjust for losing a few commitments, so we're always left with a less than full class

Sign Schultz regardless. I never quite understood why not. TE isn't a position you can't have too many of at ND. Plus Tyler is a ML.

While I don't think he'll wind up here, I'm not about to say we shouldn't take him. That's just stupid.

Punt on this punk. He doesnt deserve to go to ND. Let him go to USC or Bama. He wont play at Bama and we can kick his ass for four years at USC.

This guy is unbelievable. If you arent committed, dont commit.

Welcome to recruiting. You must be new here. Btw there are a lot of kids on our team that were committed elsewhere at some point.
