Sandlin is so damn annyoing and tweets the same thing daily.

If your talking specifically about his tweeting then I have no comment because I don't follow twitter but by all accounts he's doing a fantastic job since he's been added to the staff. Wiltfong has some insanely positive things to say about his interactions with recruits while on campus and just his preparation when it comes to recruiting. He's doing a bang up job.

Who will receive this avalanche of mail? I like Gbdomer's wish list, and if wishing makes it so, I am guessing that pot of gold II will be sent to Nyles Sykes, Tyler Luatua, Nyles Morgan, or Solomon Thomas(my candidate).

Elam seemed to like his pot of gold, so I guess they're sticking with what works.

I trust the staff to not send a massive amount of mail to a recruit they know doesn't want to be bombarded. They wouldn't do anything that would hurt their chances with a recruit.

Does anyone else think this pot of gold is stupid? I guess times are different and kids like this, but what a horrible waste of resources..

I dont think it is a waste if it works and the kids do like it.

Not targeting you Irishman77, but I wonder why everyone wants the stud players like the Bamas, LSUs, FSUs land but when ND does one of the few things that these teams do (that's actually not illegal) so many ND fans turn their noses to it....

It just seems so dumb, and this Matt Elam kid just seems way too much like EV from last year. We are weary :/

I like the idea. Marketing is the key to selling anything and if these things work keep doing it.

I don't remember the guys name, but Holtz use to have someone on staff that did a lot of the same things. I remember reading a story in the paper. We were playing Colorado in the Orange Bowl. The guy was on the sideline on the phone with a recruit while the recruit was watching the game. He was telling him he could be experiencing it first hand if he became Irish. I thought it was a brilliant move.

I know he was using hyperbole, but wasn't it Bob Golic who stated that when he was being recruited, prospects on a visit had to find their own way to campus from the airport. An offer to the mecca of college football was all that was needed to get a commitment from a recruit. Granted, it's a publicity stun, but, on occasion and done in levity, I have no problem with it.

Vinny Cerrato was fairly epic. Also led to the creation of a whole bunch of new recruiting rules by the NCAA.

As for the Pot of Gold thing, I don't know. Maybe it works for a certain type of kid. But I'm not sure that's the type of kid who's the best fit for Notre Dame in the long run. I'd prefer we focus on the unique opportunities, and challenges, that come with playing for Notre Dame, rather than mailbombing people to "show love." But, then, I'm not 17.

lol at the thought that a kid who appreciates a little love in the form of some snail mail isn't the "best fit for Notre Dame". Get off the horse, people.

My only thing about it is If this was another school some people would be oh that's dumb, that's over kill, and so on but since it's the team they like it's ok.

I agree with this. With that said, I'd rather have one unique very genuine letter than a litter of superficial ones, but that's because I only get mail of that bulk from stores and businesses offering coupons and wanting my money. I just keep thinking of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory. One golden ticket should be the thematic for recruiting if you really want to make it cheesy. :)

According to Twitter, it looks like a ton of '14 verbals are on their way to South Bend for the awards show, or a visit. Any non-verbals going to be there?

Pretty sure it's in the recruit's threads, but Kolin Hill, Nile Sykes and Charles Nelson will be there, along with roughly half our committed recruits.
