Also I am not hip on the newer testing, can you still just take the two part SAT or do you have to take all three parts?

What is the rough equivalent for ACT score? I'm not familiar with the SAT

It's really low. Something like a 17 or 18.

Put it this way. 850 is out of 1600 in 2 subjects(math and reading I presume). So that's really close to 50%.

If its really 850, then ND does not have any real academic standards.

There was one 50 points lower a decade ago. He graduated in 4 yrs. There have been a number of 900's.

Holy molly and we thought Academics was a barrier for recruiting. That means there is a lot more dumb football players out there than I thought there was. I find it sad.

Hopefully Isaiah gets in because he worked hard for it. Better late than never.

Academics was, is, and will be a barrier to recruits not just getting into ND but staying eligible when they do. It's the prime reason ND Admissions scrutinizes each recruit so carefully and why they are slow in granting approval. ND also has a highly respected Tutoring program that coupled with the scrutiny of admissions and the focus of most student athletes has resulted in the top notch graduation rate ND maintains.

For well over 25 years (that I'm aware of) ND's admission requirements have exceeded NCAA minimums with respect to GPA, Test Scores, Cores Courses, and Character. Those requirements greatly reduce the pool of academically qualified student athletes that can meet ND's expectation to graduate in 4 years from ND's highly competitive academic environment.

Here's the Link to the NCAA Eligibility Center for the NCAA's Sliding GPA Test Score Scale. Keep in mind that like 40 times and bench presses numbers vary and are not in themselves a guarantee of success.

Didn't Tony Rice have a SAT score of 690?

Yes. Rice was a Proposition 48 recruit in 1986. Prop 48's were allowed to be admitted with a GPA under 2.0 for 11 core courses, Or an SAT under 700, OR an ACT below 17. They were conditional (probational) students according to the NCAA. They were not allowed to play nor practice.

ND admitted 3 prop 48's that year, two in football, one in basketball. The ND Aministration was unhappy with the "experiment" as they believed it was not compatible with ND's educational style/mission. It was never repeated.

1620 for me. But they look at critical reading and math mostly and Im guessing thats what the 850 is based on. On those I got 1,050.

Considering the average ND student is around 1420.....

More than two-thirds of applicants to the University of Notre Dame get rejected, and most successful applicants have GPAs and standardized test scores that are well above average. In the graph below, the blue and green data points represent accepted students. You can see that the majority of students who got in had GPAs in the "A" range, SAT scores of about 2000 or higher, and ACT composite scores of 28 or above. Higher numbers clearly improve your chances of getting an acceptance letter, and the strongest applicants had "A" averages and extremely high test scores.

According to ND Admissions:

Enrolled Students Profile
51% ranked in the top 2% of their class
89% ranked in the top 10% of their class
52% Male 48% Female
1360–1500 on the SAT (Mid-50 percent score range)
32–34 on the ACT (Mid-50 percent score range)

Again, the 850 is probably just critical reading and math. Thats what schools mainly look at (not so much writing). Thats still not a great score but its not as terrible.

An 850 is pretty terrible. I believe you get 200 points for just signing your name or something

My wife had a 4.0+(AP courses) 30 ACT and got waitlisted! Got into U of I and graduated through their business school, which was #1 in the country that year passing Harvard. I think that is why she had a hatred for ND!

I've told this before, but I had a buddy who had a 32 on his ACT and a 4.0 GPA and got waitlisted. Did a year at Holy Cross and got a 4.0 before he was admitted. His mother even worked for ND!
