The trouble is, going forward, we're locked into five ACC games a year. Plus USC, Stanford and Navy. Plus MSU and Purdue most years. Leaving two slots to accommodate:
A: Random national powers that boost our profile, like Oklahoma the last two years
B: The likes of Army/Air Force/BYU who probably aren't going to disappear from our schedule entirely, and shouldn't.
C: This infernal Shamrock Series (which really isn't worth forcing to be an every-year thing)
D: Other occasional quality opponents like Arizona State this year or Northwestern coming up.
E: MAC cupcakes who, really, no one wants to go watch, and God forbid we lose to (remember Tulsa?)
I personally don't think ND owes BYU anything. They wanted to go independent and it put them in a scheduling jam. We bailed them out, hence two home games.
would really like to see Navy as only academy game unless we schedule them for a shamrock series game. They do offer cool locations. Met life in NJ/NY, San Diego, Mile High.
The shamrock series should be every year imo. its one of the first "new wave" ideas that came into this program (do we owe chuck a thank you?) & the players/fanbase/brand has loved it. not to mention we haven't lost one yet.
i don't see us losing to teams like tulsa anymore. Kelly learned his lesson on that.
