Last year both Oregon and Kansas State lost on the same weekend and propelled us to the NCG. Just take care of business and the rest will fall in place.

i remember that night well. at the time i was psyched but in hindsight reaaly wish K State had won, would have been K State vs ND in the Natty...(same would have gone fore oregon but it hink we had a much better shot (would have defintiely won) vs K State...Oregon who knows

I still can't side with the people who would rather have us play in the Heart of Texas Bowl against Rice or North Texas than play in a BCS game. If we actually do finish 10-2 and in the Top 14, we'll be riding a 7-game win streak to end the year including obviously winning at Stanford. I'm not saying that's going to happen, but if we go 10-2 with our schedule, I'd like our chances against just about anyone outside of Bama, Oregon, and FSU.

While I don't think we end up in a BCS bowl even if we win out, I agree. I would rather play in a BCS than a lessor bowl. It shows everyone who thinks last year was an anamoly that it wasn't. That's one reason we are low in the polls. Many think last year was a fluke.

I'm really not stressed about this. I hope we get into a BCS bowl so we can kick some *** on a big stage, but if we don't, I will be satisfied with having the opportunity to beat any quality opponent in any decent bowl game. In 2011 we played an up-and-coming FSU team ... I'm totally cool with a matchup like that, as long as we win it.

Guys,

It's not time to panic or worry about what bowl game we'll play in. Last year, in week 12, ND was ranked 3rd in the BCS behind Kansas State and Oregon. The Tuesday of that week, I had a dream that ND was playing in the national championship game against Oregon. Davaris Daniels scored the first touchdown of the game on a crossing route in the back of the endzone. I ran on to the field and the crowd followed me. Sure enough, Notre Dame won out and played in the NCG.

Moral of the story is that the week 11 BCS standings were just released. If we get to week 13 and I haven't had a dream about us playing in a BCS game, then it's time to get worried.

It's okay, everyone. I'm clairvoyant.

This would really really suck. The pain of losing to a MAC team would be unbearable. I'd jump off a bridge.

Playing in Detroit would suck almost as bad as losing to a MAC team. I'll be happy with the PS bowl against a lowly AAC team. Can we find some place sunny to play..... Me needs a vacation to the beach.

Well, then it wouldn't be a complete loss.....

side point, would it be one of those National Highway bridges???

Wow me too! In week ten last year I had a dream that a beautiful naked woman was trying to seduce me, so hopefully she'll return this year...... I'm trying to remember what she looked like cause I have this dream a lot, just with different women.

In Buster's case it would be the Bridge to Nowhere.... but that's probably better suited under the political thread that I have since self-banned myself from. Arguing football is much better than arguing politics.

Bama got jaw jacked by Utah, then a lowly Mountain west team...Bama seemed to recover ok...

so I'd take the loss if I knew we could win 3 nattys shortly thereafter...:)

I kid...I'd be inconsolable...prolly never see the nattys

That Utah loss right on the heels of the Gator Tebow loss is what propelled Bama to get better. If ever any losses helped...those two did.

I would rather have high expectations and a defeat along the way instead of low expectations and never knowing. For the Irish to be 7-2 this season after all the adversity they have faced speaks loudly. They just need to stay focused, learn from it all, and never get satisfied.

Do you ever call into your local SEC radio stations??? I imagine you’d be real popular.

Never do. A man's gotta know his limitations around these parts. People around here still think Notre Dame is some church in Paris, Ky. Silly southerners.

Yep. All this talk of preferring to play a MAC team, or some fifth-place AAC retread, is a little pathetic. We've got a good team. Play well and we can beat almost anyone. I'd much rather see us try and lose than whoop up on Cincinnati or Rutgers. What does that accomplish?

From a recruiting perspective, better than a loss to a MAC team, or potential blow out loss to a top tier team in the BCS. We've got a good team, with some great pieces, but not a great team. I love ND, and not down on them, or picking on them, just being realistic based on our performance this year. Next year I think we will have something special.

Not my nieghbors. They KNOW Hell is located 12 hours drive up U.S. 31. I get told to go there every Fall.

For 30 years I've gotten a steady dose of Notre Dame are the ****ing bastards that stole 4 games from Bear by having the Pope order the Catholic refs to ignore Irish holding calls or face excommunication.

Then I get reminded of that T'Town Awarded PulitzerPrize novel, "The Missing Ring", where the Notre Dame owned National Media conspired to vote ND #1 to punish the STATE of Alabama for segregation. Cue the soft strains of "The Battle Hymn of The Republic."

My next door neighbor was 5 when his father took him to see the '73 Sugar Bowl. His daddy claimed his son was scarred for life by the papist's win. Curiously that son graduated from John Carroll H.S and UA. He roots for the Irish when they are playing ... except when they The Tide. His wife medicates him on those occasions.

I've had lunch with John Croyle, his wife, and young son Brodie at his Big Oak Ranch. After the blessing, they prayed for an athletic intervention.

And the Auburn fans all know, ... Bear NEVER beat The Irish!

If you're not willing to explain, I'm not gonna go diving for clues. It's not that important.

Weird post. ulukinatme said we'd have to jump about 15 spots. We're currently ranked 23rd. That means he's aiming for top 8 (23 minus 15). Not that complicated.

I just knew it was the Pope's fault. Next time I drive through KY, I am gonna pay him a visit.

I said about 15 spots cause I'm lazy  Yeah, 9 spots would get us to #14 and eligible for BCS, but depending on who is ahead of us we may not get an invite at #14. We're guaranteed a spot if we make it to #8, so that's the best possible position we can shoot for at this point and should be our goal. It's a very lofty goal, since 15 spots it a lot to jump in 4 weeks this late in the season, but things happen sometimes. If we can't hit Top 8, then we need to shoot for Top 12 and hope there isn't a Northern Illinois or similar team ahead of us.

Technically we could be ranked as low as 16th and be eligible, but we would also have to be higher than at least one AQ conference champion and I don't see that happening. At 16th we wouldn't be higher than probably any of the AQ conferences: the SEC champion (Likely 'Bama), ACC (Likely Florida State), Big 12 (Likely Baylor unless they lose, then maybe Texas and we could be higher there), AAC (Likely UCF unless they lose), B1G (OSU or MSU), and PAC-12 (Oregon or Stanford probably). So, since it's unlikely we'll be higher than an AQ champ we need to be at least Top 12, so we have to move 11 spots to get a very good chance of being selected. Right now we're at #23 in the BCS, and I think we could move as high as #15 in the coming weeks if we win out...#12 will require a lot of dominoes to fall, and we'd have to hope they fall past us and not just change the current order of teams ranked 1-23.

The rules, if anyone is interested:
Due to the "Notre Dame rule",[9] independent Notre Dame receives an automatic berth if it finishes in the top eight.
The highest-ranked champion of a non-AQ conference will receive an automatic berth if
It is ranked in the top 12, or
Ranked in the top 16 and higher than at least one AQ conference champion.

Technically possible, but very very improbable. Not worth worrying about.
