Underrated? He is getting carries at ND despite he is a limited RB fighting for playing time with some former HS 5*. I think he is very well valued here, in fact, i think he a little overrated in this forum as a player but he deserves it with his team first attitude and toughness.

Yep. He's done a nice job as a guy we can depend on (except that horrible fumble against USC) but lets not kid ourselves about him athletically. The only reason he's on the field is that we're just that horrible at RB, not because Cam has stolen the show.

It's nice to have him in the backfield late in games...but we need a playmaker.

He is a tough SOB, but all of us are from Texas. LOL

Cam is better athletically than people give him credit for. He can cut and he runs hard. He doesn't need to do much more than that to be a good back.

We are not terrible are talent has just not come to fruition. GAIII is a homerun hitter and nothing more, Carlisle is not being utilized properly (not entirely the staff's fault, If we had a mobile qb he would be better suited), Greg Bryant has some "issues" Folston should be getting more reps, but Cam is the most consistent. He is really hard working and is not elite, but makes plays when they need to be. Our Runningbacks would also be much better if teams respected the pass. I appreciate Tommy for what he is doing, but he does not really challenge defenses.

Aside from that fumble, he has been exactly what we needed this year. Dependable.

Most FBS teams would kill to have our depth at RB.

Would you have called Toby Gerhardt a "playmaker"? He had a pretty good college career.

Of course. I love Bryant.....but Right now?? We aren't very good in the backfield. It is what it is.

Depth is great and all...but I bet most teams would keep their #1 to give up our depth.

And Cam is NOT Toby Gerhardt. Come on. Gerhardt was a special player.

What was special about Gerhardt that McDaniel doesn't have? Gerhardt was bigger, but they otherwise have similar running styles, strengths and weaknesses.

Point being, if by "playmaker" you mean someone with elite speed or elusiveness, I don't agree those are must have qualities in a #1 RB. Gerhardt didn't have either of those qualities, and he was a Heisman candidate.

I disagree... I think that defender from USC is still looking for his jock strap after the cut Cam made on him. If you also consider all of the times that Cam has gotten 3-4 extra yards while being tackled by throwing out a straight arm or laying his body out, he's got all of the athleticism I want in a RB.

I think Cam is a special player. He has determination, heart, does everything the right way, and should be our #1 back for these reasons. He isn't Gerhardt, but only from a physical size standpoint. I think Cam is more elusive, but runs physically tough like Gerhardt and isn't afraid to get hit.

I want to see more Atkinson and Folston. Cam is great in the fourth, but these two can run the ball.

Gerhardt was elite in short yardage and goal-line situations. Cam has not shown the same ability. Maybe he'll develop in that area. We desperately need someone that can pick up a yard in critical situations.

Have you watched GAIII this season? GAIII has shown very little outside of a couple big runs during the OU game. It's like he realized he needed to lower his pad level during that game, then went back to his old ways. Folston hasn't shown all that much either, but he's had limited carries, so you can't really say how he stacks up against the upper classmen. He has looked very good for a frosh though, and the future is bright. Cam has been steady, however, and had some big runs against USC. He did have one fumble, but one in 7 games isn't bad. The way Cam was hit, any of the backs would have fumbled on that carry.

You know, I hate to be a downer, but I am now convinced that Cam is the only back on the team that is not a freshman that can hit the hole without sidestepping, and sometimes doesn't miss the crease due to poor vision.

Carlisle runs extremely hard but has no vision.

GAIII is averaging 5.7 yards per carry. I wouldn't give him the ball on 3rd and short, but he's still a good player.
