Buster, your posts have been exceptional over the last 6 months. I don't get on here as much to contribute my thoughts of often as I used to but I still try to read everyday what the news is on here.
I would have to say I fall under the former. I am not questioning which team I will root for, I am questioning how seriously I take wins and losses and recruiting etc. I will always support ND and watch the games, I just felt I needed to ease up a bit is all. I guess the worst part of all of this for me is, I may have picked the wrong season to quit smoking lol. Last weekend was tough for me not to but I am up to two weeks cigarette free! Again, great post! You have a great outlook on the situation.

That's it!?

FO's Matt Hinton just predicted an Irish victory:

MICHIGAN STATE (+6.5) at NOTRE DAME • 3:30 pm (NBC)

Has Michigan State found its offense? In an abrupt, uncharacteristic outburst, the Spartans scored more offensive touchdowns last Saturday in the first quarter (3) than they had managed in their first two games combined, on their way to a 55–17 rout over… uh, Youngstown State. So, yeah, Youngstown State is a middling outfit even by FCS standards. So what? After two weeks of watching the offense gasping for air in defensively driven wins over Western Michigan and South Florida – a pair of winless doormats that have both lost to middling FCS outfits themselves – any signs of life are welcome. For the game, the Spartans finished with 547 yards of total offense (277 rushing, 270 passing), most by MSU in any game since November 2009. Fifty-five points matched their previous high under Mark Dantonio, in his first game as head coach in 2007. For the first time since last November, the starting quarterback (Connor Cook) took every relevant snap prior to garbage time, and emerged as the unquestioned starter.

Still, even dubious, runaway optimism has to be put into context. So far, Notre Dame's defense bears little resemblance to the unit that led the nation in scoring defense last year en route to the BCS title game: In back-to-back weeks, Michigan (41) and Purdue (24) have both scored more points than the Irish allowed in any regular season game in 2012. But what does vast improvement mean for an attack that didn't come close to scoring a touchdown on Notre Dame in last year's loss in East Lansing and has continued to struggle? One trip to the end zone would be a step forward. Anything more than that may have to come from the defense, which has been more than willing to pick up a little slack.

FWIW, FO's metrics actually have Michigan State favored somehow. I guess the numbers haven't caught up with the tire fire of an offense they're running out there.

Their early predictions are usually a little off because there's not enough data on the current season yet. The F/+ model did project an MSU victory; the column linked above is just Hinton's individual projections based on the data.

Which RB is likely to have the best day against the Michigan State defense do we think?

i'm curious to see how the defense will do against MSU's supposedly bad offense. If I were MSU, i'd come out throwing the ball like Reesus

They average over 200 yds a game rushing, and the QB they've settled on as the starter is mobile. They only average 160 yds passing a game. They seem to fall right into what our D is good/bad at. We stop the run better than the pass. That makes their QBs ability to scramble the wild card. I don't think they have the ability to throw much at all. Lets keep him contained and our D should be just fine.

Did anyone catch in the Thursday presser when BK was asked if the Center was coached to snap the ball when the defense jumps?

He gave a strange answer, and said 'in most of those situations we're looking for more than the 5 yards'.

I'm not a Doctor, but wouldn't it make sense to always take the free 5 yards? 3rd and 10 is better than 3rd and 15, 2nd and 5 is better than 2nd and 10, etc. IDK if the question caught him off guard or what, but it didn't make sense.

It could mean that he wouldn't want an automatic snap because normally if they're offsides they know to take a deep shot since it's a free play. Maybe?

They have to get better at executing that then because they haven't yet that I can remember.

But you only get the free play if it's snapped while the defender is in the neutral zone.

If it's raining in South Bend like it is here in Ohio...we are in for a nasty muddy day. O-Line needs to screw in their 1" spikes.

After trailing early, the Irish defense stiffens up in the second half and beats MSU 23-20. Tommy Rees leads a furious charge late in the fourth by going 6-8 passing for 65 yards, converting two crucial third down passes, and hits Daniels in the corner of the end zone with 30 seconds left on the clock.

Reports out of South Bend is that the bookstore has ran out of Rees jersey's and the expected backorder is at least a month.

Been out of town with work this week and just catching up....

Watched the Kelly press conference from Thursday ...wow he looks unhappy!

I really think this week will determine our season. I said after the Purdue game we are approaching a breaking point and it could go either way.

I think the team does something special and the emotion finally surfaces and explodes!

If so...we can run the table. If our team gets to the moment and continues with the unconfident shy guy personality we are screwed and lose a lot of games etc.

This week their will be a defining moment!

It is time to stop being the kid staring at his phone pretending he doesn't see the hot blonde looking at him. It is time to stand up, walk over, grab her *** and take her home!

OMG..I hope it goes a little better than that. My heart can't take too much more.

Loved the enthusiasm, but it was like a movie with a bad ending. All that excitement about the kid and the blonde for a little 3 point victory? lol

My wishes for today:

1) We try to block a punt.
2) Defense takes the right angles and makes the tackle
3) Greg Bryant gets substantial reps
4) O-line gets a good surge on running plays
5) We don't throw at GAIII and Nicklas catches the ball.
6) We don't make their QB look like an all-American (currently ranked 105th in College Football passing)
7) We come out fired-up and take control from the start. None of this "they score first bullshat"!
