What the hell kind of ear rings are those?

You want to talk earrings in a recruits thread??? To bad you don't want to talk about his evening clutch or 6 inch heels too. Stick to football, brah.

Yay, Blankenship!!! Woo

Darqueze Dennard - Michigan State

Dennard is another highly regarded NFL cornerback prospect. The Michigan State senior is ranked fourth out of more than 240 potential NFL eligible corners for next year's draft. Dennard brought just a two-star recruiting ranking coming out of Dry Branch, Ga., but he had a first-round NFL draft grade this year before deciding to return for his fifth year at MSU.

Anytime anyone wants to critique a coach for selecting a player, and prognosticate the azimuth of a players potential, think of this kid. And by the way, our own Bennett Jackson, a three star wide receiver is widely regarded as the number five corner in his class, for draft purposes. I expect him to add to that and light em up, if his shoulder is healthy this year!

Good read from ISD. Blankenship isn't quoted but his HS coach had a lot to say. One thing that disappointed me is how hard of a time they had getting a response from the ND coaches. I understand they probably receive film, emails, VMs, etc from players/coaches across the country that have no chance of playing football at ND, but is a quick response too much to ask for?

Blankenship Decision A Dream Come True

And Blankenship is happy as well. His decision is final and he won’t be making any other visits.

“After we made the commitment, I contacted the other schools that had been recruiting him and let them know he’d made a commitment,” Johnson said. “They were all disappointed obviously, but at the same time, they were happy for him. They understand Notre Dame is a great school and it will be a great opportunity for him.

“He had visits set up to Northwestern and Kansas State while he was in the Midwest, but once he called me and we made the commitment, he cancelled those.”

You kind of answered your QU with your statement. They get a ton of calls, emails, etc. And if a kid calls and isn't blowing up rapidly, I'm sure they handle it like they did.

By ignoring a TX 4A recruiting coordinator for at least a month until he makes a last ditch effort by exaggerating his players' attributes on a VM? This happened during an evaluation period when the coaches are, well, evaluating players! I'm not burning them at the stake, I love this staff, I'm just sharing the disappointment Mrs. Blankenship felt and curious why the staff isn't more accessible and/or responsive. Or, why they don't have a low level administrator that can at least acknowledge when communication has been received.

In my job I get inquiries from people all the time that I really don't have time for. I make it a point to at least acknowledge their communication. I usually forget about them and they're forced to email me again a few days, weeks or months later and I come up with some excuse about why I didn't get back to them, but at least their initial communication is acknowledged.

It's not a big deal. The kid was coming to camp anyway and wouldn't have gotten away or went unnoticed, but it made me curious why they would ignore Scott Johnson's attempts to get ahold of them.

The more I read on this kid the more I think this was a sick pull if he bulks up and plays DE without losing athleticism. The quotes/accolades in recent articles are just astounding. And it's good to hear how hard he was being recruited by Oklahoma and Oregon.

A telling quote from Grant:

“I loved the guys that are up there. You can tell they’re all smart and they have their things together,” Blankenship said. “I don’t see that sometimes at other schools. I can walk up to a guy that barely knows English, but at Notre Dame you don’t find that at all. Everyone there has their stuff together.”

This is an extremely upbeat article. If his coach isn't just gilding a lily, then our staff has scored again.

On another note: the coach says that Blankenship is game-speed fast, and capable of running down players in the backfield from behind. That says: 21st century Defensive End to me. I intuit that Grant is another of these sort-of CAT but mainly Backfield-destroyer DEs we're targeting.

Like this... a lot.

I particularly like the article, too. And my favorite part about it is his coach. With a little checking, this guy is the real deal. Saying he has placed around 45 guys at the division one level is not an exaggeration.

The best concept communicated in the article was the following quote:

“I’ve had some kids go off to college and do great. I’ve had some kids go off to college and they’re back after a year. The kids who don’t make it, it’s always because of work ethic. We’ve had that discussion several times and he understands he’s going to have to get in there and outwork some people and make his mark that way.”
