I wonder how his leaping ability stacks up against Dupre and Speedy Noil. They just verticaled 42.4" and 45.3" respectively at The Opening.
Holmes Rivals profile has his vertical at 39 inches but I didn't see a date as to how old that number is.
Holmes is listed at 6-2
Dupre 6-4
Noil 5-10.5
If all those numbers are valid and current, adding the leaps to the Hts yields:
Holmes 9-5
Dupre 9-10.4
Noil 9-8.3
Out of the 100 or so passes thrown in their direction, how many do you think will be thrown downfield between 9'-5" inches and 9'-10" inches off the ground?
Dupre and Noil would have a 3 to 5 inch advantage if they time their jumps cocurrent with the height of the ball while having position on the DB AND catching the ball. The vertical jump reflects the tip of one finger on an outstretched hand while jumping from a standing position. Like the 40 yd dash it's relative to the individuals but doesn't identify who catches more passes.
I took from the comment about Holmes leaping ability "he can climb the ladder and go get it" that the evaluator was commenting on Holmes ability to get up and come down WITH the ball and rather than just swatting a piece of plastic in the gym.
