Will ND Steal PSU Players?

No way that the NCAA lets schools under sanctions use the "these players don't count against your limit" thing do they? That would be utterly ridiculous.

So unfair if USC is allowed to take Redd, one of if not their best player and fills a need for them at RB.

ESPN
"A quarterback needs offensive linemen and receivers to win. And a defense. ESPN 150 defensive tackle Greg Webb of Erial, N.J., defected over the weekend from Penn State's class to North Carolina, and cornerback Ross Douglas decommitted after the sanctions were announced and is visiting other schools, including Penn State's designated cross-division Big Ten rival, Nebraska.

Likely, the exodus has only begun. And of the uncommitted prospects whom first-year coach Bill O'Brien had not yet sold on the Nittany Lions, who picks Penn State now?

When hope fades, recruiting gets difficult. If you can't recruit, you don't win.

As Christian Hackenberg can attest, the sky is darkening. A furious storm looks set to bury all in its path."

No players that are currently on their roster. They are really not any players that would be a significant upgrade to ND's current team. Why waste the scholarship?

Well because ND is only 4 deep at CB. If there is a CB that the coaches think will help (I have not checked PSU's roster) then I think it is worth a spot.

I agree with you. We are not just looking for upgrades, but depth and experience. We really don't know how good our kids are yet, so get a couple more and play the odds.

If we could get an upperclassman- perfect. If we could get a lower classman, like the big kid from Baltimore, great.

I think ND should take any defensive back on PSU's roster just to add depth for this season.

That's a great point that was brought up about USC and OSU. I would love to find out if the NCAA will allow transfers w/o counting towards their scholarship limits. Seems hypocritical.

I completely agree that ND should look into the WR and DBs from PSU's roster. Like someone mentioned earlier, upgrading shouldn't be the reason. Depth, however, is very much needed along those two positions.

Interesting points made on Power Hour that I also heard echoed on the radio this morning. Mike Frank and the guy I was listening to on the radio think you'll only see a mini-exodus before this season starts because of the proximity to the season starting; but you'll see a massive exodus after the season as players sift through their transfer opportunities and "audition" during the year for other schools. The guy on the radio also said that most people don't realize how horrendous Penn State's recruiting classes have been over the past two seasons and that "no one wants those players anyways... at least not until they show something on the field." He thought Penn State wins 6 games this year tops... and likely less if they get key defections.

For ref, here are Penn State's last 4 recruiting classes. 3/4 will make you want to vomit.

Yahoo Sports: Rivals.com 2009 Penn St. Commitments
Yahoo Sports: Rivals.com 2010 Penn St. Commitments
Yahoo Sports: Rivals.com 2011 Penn St. Commitments
Yahoo Sports: Rivals.com 2012 Penn St. Commitments

They've taken an average of 4+ 2:s: players a year over the past four years... meaning about 20% of their active roster are kids no one had interest in.

If they transfer now, they don't have to sit out a year. If they wait till next year, won't they have to sit and potentially lose a year of eligibility if they already burned their redshirt?

None of the current or incoming players will have to sit out a year if they decide to transfer, period. Doesn't matter if they do it this year or right after the season or two years down the road. The '13 recruiting class is the first class that will not have this option.

maybe i am in the minority here, but i honestly dont want anyone from their current team to come to ND.

2013 recruits are of course fair game, though.

Not the fault of these kids. They deserve the new options they have since Penn State put them is such a crappy position. Nothing to be ashamed of offering kids a chance out of that mess.

I imagine the smack talk on the field will sink a little deeper this year and help encourage a few changes of heart from those kids that are acting like they owe Penn State something. I would be gone before the season started if I had any options at all.

I'm not sure I completely agree with the option to give players the ability to transfer. Yes the current players and commitments are at a disadvantage now after this punishment, but IMO, whether this molestation was made aware at the time they commited or not, they still put their faith and commitment into the school. Yes PSU let them down and are now paying for it, and most peoples response is; "why should the current players be punished for the actions of the coaches and the faculty". My thought is, these players trusted these same coaches and beleived in what they were being told, IMO they should have to stay and suffer the consequences atleast for this year, atleast that would be fair to the Univ as well. It's the players fault and decision to choose PSU, they signed their LOI and they should have to stick by it,if they don't want to be apart of PSU anymore, then transfer and sit out like every other transfer request, you don't see O'Brien jumping ship, even though I'm sure if it didn't hurt his rep, he would.

**** Just saw USC is recruiting Silas Redd.

You know Kiffen was calling him before sanctions even came down.

I agree that it doesn't make sense to let the kids transfer to a school on probation. I wonder if the NCAA thought that thru before they announced the sanctions?

Anyone else see Lane Kiffin at the PAC 12 media day? Basically gave a recruiting pitch for Silas Redd saying that RB was there biggest position of concern and that they need to develop there.
