My personal opinion would be to take 1 this cycle and than see what happens with Golson as to taking 1-2 next year in a much more talented '15 crop.

I agree with this. The only downside is that you would only have 2 scholarship QB for the 2014 season in the unfortunate situation where EG wouldn't come back. Considering Kelly's resume with injured QB, I don't think he would be comfortable doing it. Perhaps, we would see a 5th year transfer. Very unlikely, but who knows. This is not an easy situation to be in. Hopefully, EG is reintegrated ans all is well.

We can always jump it on lower rated QBs if it isn't looking like EG is coming back. I doubt Kelly goes into 2014 fall camp with 2 QB's

Dawkins mentioned recently that he will wait until after his season to commit. That could change if LSU (or any school) offers and says they need a decision, but TIFWIW, he said he's waiting.

Per Sampson the only QBs on NDs board moving forward are Jacob Park and David Cornwell.

Agree. Let's wait to see what happens with Golson. I am confident all parties want him back at ND. I think he will uphold his end of the deal and return, but you never know.

Ahhh. Sorry to hear that for Dawkins.

But there's still a long way to go. You never know if Kizer gets an OSU offer or has second thoughts about LSU what might happen.

I do agree with those who are saying that we should probably only take one QB in 2014 (unless we can get a top, top guy, or unless it becomes apparent at some point this cycle that Golson won't be back).

I think the Irish are behind on both of those. Park to Georgia and Cornwell gets an offer to Bama late this week. That's my guess anyway.

Makes sense to wait on 2015 unless you can get a QB the caliber of Park or Cornwell. Then I think you take them this year. But then again, that's probably why I am not a college coach.

I would think they'll have a pretty good idea of Golson's status by, say, November, which still leaves three months to get back in with Dawkins, reel in a late bloomer or take a flyer on a three-star kid with the right intangibles (someone like, I don't know, Tommy Rees). They may also have a better handle by then on Hendrix' future.

I think you take a 2nd QB as long as they are a very good athlete so if they fall down the depth chart they can be moved to a different position.

Tommy has done a lot of good things for this program but good lord let's not take a kid with no arm or mobility again.

Funny the way how he embarasses defenders with his stiff arm, awesome highlights. And if i am not wrong, he plays on a high level competition. Hard to understand why he has not more offers.

well Cali qbs haven't got the best rep last couple years and he isn't the best in his state in a weak overall year for qbs.

so I'm not surprised he doesn't have more big offers, but i am surprised he doesn't have more lower level offers

Eastern Michigan are being choosy about the QB's they offer this year. You can't just throw schollys around like toliet paper!

Right. If Sampson's saying that Park and Cornwell are the only QBs left on our board, that just means to me that we've decided we'll only take one QB this cycle. The staff always seems to do this ... stay in touch with top guys who we don't strictly need from a depth chart perspective, and whose ND interest may be uncertain, because they are too good to turn down or we want to be prepared to make a push for them if a spot opens up somehow.

Four-star quarterback Brandon Dawkins (Westlake Village, Calif./Oaks Christian) might have been the most notable signal-caller in attendance, given his evolving status with the Trojans. Orgeron dropped by Dawkins’ school on a number of occasions during the evaluation period and, though an offer has yet to be extended, Dawkins appears to be an option in case top target Keller Chryst (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) commits elsewhere.

“The camp went really good. It was probably one of the better workouts all around I’ve had in a while now, and how great for it to be at the USC camp in front of (coach Lane) Kiffin and the rest of the staff,” Dawkins said. “I worked with coach (Clay) Helton all day, and he was loving how I was throwing it and was very impressed with my footwork. The thing he said he loves the most is my ability to stretch a play, to run, make people miss and be a threat when I run also.

“They still haven’t offered, but Coach Helton said I am definitely at the top of their board and said he’d hate to have to play against me. He also said Coach Kiffin loves what I can do, and they’re going to wait until after the Rising Stars Camp [when] they’ll know what they’re doing.”

He's at the top of their board and they just saw him workout and they still haven't offered? Idk how kids can be so naive.

To be honest, USC has to be stingy with their scholarships right? I am sure they are going to take all the time they can create to get the best people they want on board. I could understand that point of view, as a recruit, if I wanted to go to USC ( I personally would not want to take that chance. What other top tier QBs are they looking at?

That would be my next question. If they have, say, 5 qb offers out, which wouldn't surprise me, how is he their too guy.
