Can anyone imagine if Jenkins had something as offensive as Gee? Just picture for a second Jenkins saying "we don't want BYU because you can't trust those damn Mormons."

It would be front page news everywhere with people calling for his resignation.

I'm a bit surprised that there aren't more people calling for Gee's resignation.

Before casting stones Mr. Gee, you should get your own house in order. What's the graduation rate for athletes attending OSU? What's the graduation rate for black athletes at OSU? Do your athletes even take any of the same classes the rest of the school takes?

The academics are a joke when compared to Notre Dame, Stanford, Duke, the Military Academies, Northwestern, etc. It's common knowledge that Northwestern is the class of the Big 10. OSU isn't even in the top half of the conference. Your number 1 rival puts your academics to shame.

If you want to be taken seriously by true universities, you will need to get rid of Pee Wee Herman as president and install a visionary leader that can be mentioned in the same breath as Father Jenkins and the University of Notre Dame. You certainly don't have that leader now.

Signed,
A Catholic of French-Canadian/Irish Persuasion

*Very interesting, Whiskeyj. Do you have a certain "aura" the internal server finds offensive?

I excitedly pulled up the "Internal Server Error" thread to share my findings, but when I copied and pasted the offending sentence there, it generated no error. The issue must be more complicated than a simple character sequence.

I don't know about a certain aura, but this thread definitely doesn't like me. Errors on two separate posts in a single thread is a first for me.

Buster you were the first one i thought about when i saw this news break LOL.

your loyal to Gee i give you that. but the ability to fundraise has no bearing on the measure of the man.

he is an arrogant, bigoted, elitist POS. he got exposed for what i have thought he has always been.

the worse wounds are the self inflicted ones.

now Tressel does need to fire his ***.

Huh? The guy was telling jokes to an athletic council, not writing in his diary.

Again,,, change Catholic to ***XX and there would be a protest on the OSU campus right now. Just saying.

PS,,, I don't hate the Big10. Just Michigan and OSU.

If you get caught on record saying things like this as a public figure the standard is removal from your position. I don't understand how else this can go. As has been brought up numerous times, if you insert any other religious or ethnic group in place of Catholics and this is national news.

My grandma, bless her heart, has been telling me for years about the anti-Catholic bias. Did you know that's why Kennedy was killed? She's been right all these years...

If he isn't fired it means my grandma is a savant.

I took the Catholic line as a joke for what it was worth. We endure far worse ribbing each year from other sources. I do agree that if the comment had been directed towards Jews or Muslims, **** would have hit the fan. It's not necessarily right, but it's the way of the world.

The rest of what Gee said seemed to be mostly opinion and not that politically incorrect imo. Some of it was spot on, we're not good partners for the Big 10 because we have our own agenda and plans for recruiting/expansion. Nothing wrong with that really, we're going to do what's best for us of course. It doesn't change the fact we don't mesh well with the old Western Conference though.

Read and write? All we care about in the SEC is can he catch the rock. He can get his education when his playing eligibility is up. Either that or the state can pay for it through the penal system. Get with the program Gee. And leave the Catholics alone too.

Thanks. Those of us down here that can read and write have to pull the weight for the rest of them. LOL

Been following IE for a while and finally decided to sign up and post a little. Good to be able to read some knowledgeable football talk instead of the usual trash talking. A little humor here and there helps as well.

I love when other fans can come and post meaningful discussion or humor on any football board, adds flavor imo.

Dan Wetzel just posted a column on Gee's recent comments:

About the only one of his peers more active than Gee was former Penn State president Graham Spanier. Those two were always locked at the philosophical hips, quick to scold everyone else – particularly young athletes – about how to conduct their affairs. (Spanier is currently awaiting trial on charges of perjury, obstruction, endangering the welfare of children, failure to properly report suspected abuse and conspiracy that stem from the Jerry Sandusky sexual molestation scandal.)

...

These are the people who gave you an organization that thinks amateurism is somehow a fair concept, that demands that it and it alone gets all the money, that believes it has the inalienable right to sell a player's likeness for ever and ever, that seemingly reworks its policies on the fly, that writes a rule book that obsesses over things such as cream cheese on bagels, that creates an enforcement system that no one believes is fair, that uses an illusion of a level playing field to dodge taxes and that, in the end, has a weak record of actually educating many of its most high-profile "student-athletes."

E. Gordon Gee is the NCAA: tone deaf, clumsy, situationally arrogant and obsessed with bringing in more and more money (and making sure Delany, or anyone else, doesn't then get their paws on it).

There is nothing noble or enlightened or moral or dignified about these people. They're just desperate, look-at-me fundraisers who, when not saying or doing ridiculous things, claim they and they alone know what's best for all.
That's always the most offensive part here.

The comparison to Spanier feels right. Sounds pretty similar to my description of him on the last page, no?

Well, obviously not Rev Hesburgh. He's too busy raising hell all week.

LMAO.... And you know that Fr. Jenkins "Don't need nothin' but a good time." "How can he resist?"

A few comparisons with skewed data (isn't all data skewed?). Looks like OSU could use some higher standards. All data from US News.

When applying to Ohio State University--Columbus-The application fee at Ohio State University--Columbus is $60. It is more selective, with an acceptance rate of 63.4 percent.

When applying to University of Maryland--College Park-It is more selective, with an acceptance rate of 44.7 percent and an early acceptance rate of 54.8 percent.

When applying to University of Notre Dame- with an acceptance rate of 24.3 percent and an early acceptance rate of 36.6 percent.

When applying to University of Alabama-It is more selective, with an acceptance rate of 43.5 percent.
