First post here on IE but would like to give my thoughts on the whole EV ordeal.

First I am a Bama fan but grew up watching Notre Dame in the early 80's. It feels like it was just yesterday when ole Lou was whipping the U when everyone doubted him. I am glad to see the Irish get back to being one of the great college football teams in the country.

Now... about the EV deal. Notre Dame should hold him to it and if he chooses to not report then that's on him. He has yet to give a reason I would think that would be valid for the Irish to release him. The young man has a right to change his mind.... but he also made a commitment to Notre Dame and it appears he is going to learn an early life lesson on what commitment means. Stick to your guns Notre Dame.... and let the Cali lawyers like that clown that was posting his "War and Peace" responses yesterday cry about it.

Steve, that is Steve. Welcome aboard Tommy, but you have to get by the rules and address him as Steve! LOL!

You can have all my vbucks if he shows up to fulfil his end of the bargain. Most people understand that it isn't happening.

I may be wrong, but I have a feeling he'll end up at ND when he loses his appeal. The family probably thinks he has a great shot of winning his appeal based only on the "hope factor". Similar to these giant lawsuits where someone thinks they're going to get rich off a large corporation because the attorney told them. Then things drag out and they finally are worn down with the entire process. Since he's salivated back and forth before, once the appeal is over, he's basically at the end and either walks thru the door or has to stand there for a year. He won't want to wait a year to play.

If he ends up at ND, I will eat my shoe

TPI has the right sentiment. Pete Sampson has alluded to Vanderdoes not coming at all because of the HUGE rift between his family and the coaching staff.

Just wait for his excuse, because he's not coming fellas.

See, what worries me the most here is that some coach made a promise and/or mislead EV in some way such that when he comes with his "statement" it's going to be dropping a huge bomb on ND. And that could really hurt recruiting as opposing coaches will use it to negatively recruit. From putting all the pieces together, with the situation being totally effed, there must've been something that went down. TP said "coaches didn't do anything" but everything I heard was that he was hella pissed at an assistant coach/coaches... so someone did something... right or wrong a situation doesn't deteriorate like this from everyone being inactive.

So... the situation is only going to get worse, not better.

My feeling is that if it's really that bad ND would have let him walk by now. At this point they are probably aware he isn't coming regardless so there's little to gain.

The problem is that he isn't even on campus yet. He hasn't had time to be bamboozled yet. It was stated that whatever this was occurred shortly after his commitment. I can neither confirm or deny, but I seriously doubt that after his letter was faxed in the coaches called him and said "Got ya sucker!"

This, and, since ND will not let him out of his LOI, I don't see how a 'bomb' could be dropped on ND. If ND knew it f'd up and knew they were going to look bad when EV came out with his story, they would save face and let him out of his LOI.

You don't further upset a man who has dirt on you, ND is too smart for that.

I see your logic, and you could very well be right. However, ND could have misspelled his name "Vanderdoos" on a congratulatory letter, and it would still make the rounds that Notre Dame butchers high profile recruit, makes mother cry, etc etc. The ammo is already pretty heavy (ahem, the hate is strong). I believe we can weather it just fine. Now having a poor season... that concerns me.

Well said T Town Tommy. I don't think ND should let him out of his commitment unless the reason has us wiping our eyes. A commitment should be honored (as ND honors schollies when the athlete has something go wrong and they can't contribute). DO NOT CAVE ON THIS!

Question: Lets say Eddie finally comes out with his statement and it's totally out there but is something really negative about ND/coaches... can ND respond in any way or is this a case where the privacy laws prohibit them from doing so?

Privacy laws would prevent them from saying much about EV, but it wouldn't stop them from making a statement about the coach if EV brings the coach into it in his statement.

I would assume it would depend on the level of 'negative.'

I could see BK in an 'unrelated' presser addressing the fact that, as above posters have said, he never even made it to campus, or dismissing ridculousness as ridiculous.

But an official response? It would have to be one hell of an accusation, or we look petty for throwing a presser about an 18 yr old's allegations.

Maybe he's pissed that the staff promised him he would get to practice against Golson?

What . . . too soon?

My bet is EV got nothin'!

Something may seem like "it" to the family, but to no one else. Except maybe some Bruin staff or supporters. I'm lookin' at you, Steve!)

I think NDOM gave me like 10 mil and it just snowballed from there. 2% every couple days adds up fast plus all the gambling winnings.

I also started the Lennay Kekua thread... and that activity made me a ridiculous amount of vBucks.
