Ross Browner, Luther Bradley, Willie Frye, Al Hunter, and Kyle MacAlarney are some names that come to mind of student athletes that were told to vacate the school and after 6 months to a year were readmitted.
Cooper Rego, Lorenzo Crawford, and Elam are among those that got the boot permanently.
Different situations, different circumstances, different "sentences".
Didn't Darrin Walls get kicked out for a semester too (I believe for something similar to Golson?)?
and also gary gray
and Julius Jones

Hanratty, Blier, Seymour were players in the mid 60s. Pretty talented in my opinion. Maybe late 60s though. Did Boniconti play then too?
Its been a big topic of discussion on the II board but nobody has anything concrete right now.
I don't know. Ara went 7-2-1 in 1965 with Bill Zloch, who had never played before, at QB and had nowhere near the talent of Rees and Hendrix, or game experience Rees has. Despite this, Ara's two losses were to the #1 and #6 ranked teams by a combined total of 13 points. He beat the the #4 ranked team by 21 points. He won with defense and ball control.
We have lots of talented athletes in every position group, and almost every player coming back from one of the nation's top defense. Rees and Hendrix know not to turn the ball over and not to take reckless risks. We have some very athletic skill position players in Daniels, Atkinson, Carlisle and Jones along with three starters coming back on the O-line and a bevy of talented tight ends. I don't see any team on the schedule that has any discernible advantage over us. We have a chance to win every regular season game, just as we did last year.
Just saw this on another board...Golson would be Honor Roll in the SEC

LOL at Recreation and Sports Management.
... and at the 2.88 SEC Academic Honor Roll!
Stop laughing. Have you ever tried to throw a Frisbee????
Trust me, I wasn't implying that Ara was not a great coach. I was more or less just saying that there were some talented players at ND in the 60s. The schedule was no cake walk either. I was absolutely shocked when he stepped down. Remember it well.

I started following ND in the early 60's. Ara is my all time favorite. I've said it on this site many times that BK reminds me of Ara. The way he handles EVERYTHING is so similar. Don't short Ara by saying he had a stacked roster, because when he came, ND was in the midst of a downturn, but took those same players and made the team a winner immediately. ND's schedule back then was just as difficult as today, maybe even tougher.
Definitely read Resurrection if you haven't.
California, huh...thats a long way from South Carolina and South Bend for that matter. I am intrigued.
There are no Junior Colleges in South Carolina that are worth anything.
