Hanratty, Blier, Seymour were players in the mid 60s. Pretty talented in my opinion. Maybe late 60s though. Did Boniconti play then too?

Ross Browner, Luther Bradley, Willie Frye, Al Hunter, and Kyle MacAlarney are some names that come to mind of student athletes that were told to vacate the school and after 6 months to a year were readmitted.

Cooper Rego, Lorenzo Crawford, and Elam are among those that got the boot permanently.

Different situations, different circumstances, different "sentences".

Didn't Darrin Walls get kicked out for a semester too (I believe for something similar to Golson?)?

and also gary gray

and Julius Jones

The people I mentioned had du Lac issues and got time off at the behest of Res Life.

Julius Jones didn't have a Res Life issue, he acknowledged he had an academic deficiency although I don't recall him revealing details such as failed courses or deficient GPA. Gray and quite a few others chose not to provide any details which is their right under FERPA but no stories surfaced connecting them to Res Life issues so it was widely assumed they had academic deficiencies (failed courses/GPA). I believe their time off came from The Office of The Registrar.

IF Golson's infraction was indeed academic misconduct than that's an Honor Code violation which comes under The Office of The Provost not Res Life nor The Registrar.

There was a reason I wrote,

Different situations, different circumstances, different "sentences".

Seymour and Hanratty both were freshmen in '65. Hanratty with Seymour led the Irish to the NC in '66 as sophomores. Bleier was a year older. Buoniconti was a half-dozen years ahead of them. His senior season was '61.

Its been a big topic of discussion on the II board but nobody has anything concrete right now.

The first thing I wondered when I heard about this was Holy Cross.

I don't know. Ara went 7-2-1 in 1965 with Bill Zloch, who had never played before, at QB and had nowhere near the talent of Rees and Hendrix, or game experience Rees has. Despite this, Ara's two losses were to the #1 and #6 ranked teams by a combined total of 13 points. He beat the the #4 ranked team by 21 points. He won with defense and ball control.
We have lots of talented athletes in every position group, and almost every player coming back from one of the nation's top defense. Rees and Hendrix know not to turn the ball over and not to take reckless risks. We have some very athletic skill position players in Daniels, Atkinson, Carlisle and Jones along with three starters coming back on the O-line and a bevy of talented tight ends. I don't see any team on the schedule that has any discernible advantage over us. We have a chance to win every regular season game, just as we did last year.

He also won with a fourth string QB by the name of John Huarte and we know how that turned out.

I started following ND in the early 60's. Ara is my all time favorite. I've said it on this site many times that BK reminds me of Ara. The way he handles EVERYTHING is so similar. Don't short Ara by saying he had a stacked roster, because when he came, ND was in the midst of a downturn, but took those same players and made the team a winner immediately. ND's schedule back then was just as difficult as today, maybe even tougher.

Definitely read Resurrection if you haven't.

Trust me, I wasn't implying that Ara was not a great coach. I was more or less just saying that there were some talented players at ND in the 60s. The schedule was no cake walk either. I was absolutely shocked when he stepped down. Remember it well.

Stop laughing. Have you ever tried to throw a Frisbee????

Not much lately, but I was damn good as a kid (when the Frisbee was a brand new product) and through high school and college. By the time Frisbee Golf hit the headlines I was out of practice and sucked royally.

Sorry, wasn't jumping on you. I didn't take it as if you were implying Ara wasn't a great coach. I was just pointing out that he took the same group of players that couldn't win and turned them into immediate winners.

I remember that day as well. I was standing in the living room of my first house when the news came on the TV. I'm not ashamed to say I started getting watery. My wife asked me what was wrong and that was the point she realized what Notre Dame meant to me.

Back to topic.

I'll bet that even at the University of Arkansas the majority of the profs are between embarrassed and angry about that travesty.

I think that many persons never affiliated with university faculties don't realize the huge divide that exists between the athletic departments and most of the professors about standards. IE probably also is generally unaware that the professors have no "power" whatsoever to change that "culture" {other than maintaining their own classroom standards; even universities with so-called soft shared-governance, and consequently have "faculty senates", could have faculty resolutions to change such embarrassments, but the Admin can simply ignore them}. To evade that single power, the athletic departments are very clever/inventive in their abilities to manufacture pseudo-educational "opportunities".

Notre Dame is a rare exception to this divide [although some, even on IE, want ND to sacrifice the core of its mission for more football wins]. This is why Everett would cheat ["nowhere to run"] and this Arkansas clown can snooze his way through soft jello mindvoids to a "scholar athlete" gradeschool trophy.

You guys may barf at this, but you probably have no concept of how angry this makes a lifelong teacher feel.

Huarte had been playing tight end, I believe. Alan Page had been a back-up full back, buried on the roster. Ara loved getting QB's and turning them into LB's and DB's!

Holy crap! I forgot about Alan Page! How does that happen? I must be losing my dadgum mind. Its all good Irish1. I wanted to clarify that I was a huge fan of Ara. Hence the screen name. We can probably trade some stories.

There are no Junior Colleges in South Carolina that are worth anything.

LOL but surely the entire rest of the U.S. between Cali and SC has a worthwhile JC or thousand?

EDIT: There are a lot of Cali schools on that list. I guess we'll see what happens. Still not sure if that makes sense.
