I do think it's good for business to have some geographic rivals. Purdue and MSU meet that criteria. Plus we've played them forever. We should keep both, IMO.

If we're going to add an SEC team it should be a real SEC team, not Mizzou or Vandy. Neither will do much for us recruiting-wise or in terms of perception. If we win it's b/c we're supposed to. If we lose it's an upset.

But playing LSU or Auburn or Florida would be a Game-of-the-Week type affair. Like what we're giving up in dropping Michigan. Good luck convincing them to play us, though.

Would love to play South Carolina, but the SEC will protect their big fish unless it is a week 1 matchup with a Big Dog, (BAMA, LSU). I don't think Florida is allowed to leave the states of Florida, Georgia, Alabama or Tennessee unless they are playing in a bowl, even if it is a directional school or an FCS opponent. I think it is in the Geneva Convention.

With the move to a 4 team playoff, UM really doesn't make sense to keep every year. They're always tough and always toward the beginning of the season. We don't need our SOS to push us to top 2, just top 4 now (seems trivial, but that's a 100% expansion). Going undefeated means way more than beating big teams, especially since we don't play FCS schools at all. By playing MSU and Purdue, we keep SOS up and also avoid the damn trap game against UM I've seen too often in the last 6 years.

I love the rivalry and hope we find a way to continue playing, but blowing our chance at a NC for the sake of tradition seems even dumber than the alumni who demand I sit down after the first play of the game. We're back to being big time football, and I want us to be in it til the end, with a psycho-loyal fanbase more than anything.

Well I was hoping this was going to be bigger. Alabama does not even have to play Florida, Georgia, or South Carolina this year. Other than LSU and maybe TAM.... what a joke.

Tennessee is playing Oregon. They play the east schedule plus Alabama. Tough schedule.

Georgia plays Clemson then South Carolina to start off with... that's pretty cool, then has to play LSU and Florida. That's pretty tough. I don't know how Auburn will be this year

TAM, Ole miss, Arkansas, Vandy, and Kentucky schedules are total jokes to get to 6 wins.

Apparently Hoke will be on Mike and Mike tommorow

Hoke isn't listed on the lineup for the show this morning. Is he an unlisted call in guest or something? I really want to hear what this fat fuk has to say.

Hoke brings up when the first game was played, fails to mention why the series stopped.

Yeah greeny tried instigating with a comment about playing "the coast guard" but Golic shot that down with a little of the history of the Navy series. Other than that they didn't talk of it much.

Hoke should go on Cowherd. At least he is a little tougher. Mike and Mike are pretty tame.

This...

at bare min. if a team plays more than one in a season they should have to sit and watch... how you get away with avoiding all the real teams in your OWN FREAKIN CONFERENCE every year and then play multiple sub division teams is beyond me.*

FIFY, bro! * TAM needs some track record to prove that they should be considered in the SEC Elite. Some people considered Auburn, until last year, that is all I am saying. Things can turn, things can turn. That leaves LSU. With Miles and their perchance for losing the big game, hyperbole is in order. It's certainly cricket!

If you wanted an exciting battle of wits Golic versus Hoke were not the parties to pick.

Laughing, till the drool came out my face, man we are really rolling!

Almost as soon as he was introduced [and I think while one of the Mikes was still talking], Hoke said that there might have been better words used [than chickening out]. Hoke then went on to claim great respect for Notre Dame more than once. So, yes, they did give him a soft pass, but at least he said "something" on the quote.

Dunno which rival he's comparing Michigan to here.

Man you guys got riled up there. ;) C'mon that was my first trash talky post here EVER.

Had to let something out after 3 years of being a Maize and Blue punching bag. :p

You should see some of the stuff phork says on MGoBlog. Even when he makes good points he gets downvoted. Big reason why I've left that site pretty much and am on the GBW.

I have no problem with you, Wolverine. You were having your fun, and overtly asking for some completion to it, so I sent you a 2900 pound bouquet of red roses. Just what you seemed to be angling for. What a generous guy I am, eh?

I try to fight the good fight and some people there like it. But most downvote because I am an ND fan and purely out of hate.

I like MGoBlog mainly because it has great football content on the front page and some of the Diaries are great reads. I am a football fan in general and cannot get enough of it, regardless of source. Drupal is a horrid piece of message board software, I much prefer vbulletin.

Notre Dame AD explains -- sort of -- why the Michigan series ended - CBSSports.com

This leads me to believe there is very little chance both MSU and Purdue are kept on...

Hmmm, yeah, he doesn't come out and say "Things don't look well for Purdue and MSU either," but the writing is on the wall. Doing the math, with 2-3 road games going to the ACC (And that potential 3rd going to Navy every other year), and 1 going to either USC or Stanford, that leaves just one opponent we can potentially play away. Unless Purdue or MSU wants to play in South Bend every year, one or both of those are gone.

Having just one away game to work with is pretty limiting if we want to play anyone beyond the ACC/USC/Stanford/Navy. I'm not sure it's wise to completely abandon the Big Ten, but in that environment I don't see how we could play any home-and-homes beyond MSU/Purdue.
I do wonder if we'd occasionally play just six home games and six road games. Like we all did not so long ago. Maybe work out something with NBC to televise the @ Navy game. Or perhaps we talk Navy into a two-here/one-there rotation like we had with BC. Those Baltimore/Philly/Meadowlands Navy games are basically home games for us anyway.
