what makes us convinced urban is his favorite? outside of him enjoying his camp experience there last year, did he grow up a fan of theirs?

Unless he actually makes the ND visit in June with Andrews and it blows him away I see him at OSU. Sorry. This isn't an open battle... this is a kid who just got an offer from his favorite. It's too bad that Meyer didn't land the Clemson kid/there aren't better dual threat QBs this year.

Hilarious. If Alex Smith hadn't started 6-2 and looked great for the Niners before he got hurt this season, no way Urbie would be using this pitch.
You don't think Urban would use the #1 overall draft pick during recruiting?

This is what I was thinking. He's only had one season of any success since turning Pro and Urbie's gonna squeeze every ounce he can out of it.

who else was he going use???

tebow?
chris leak?

there isn't really a great track record of qb's w/ him

braxton is good but he was there 1st

I get why he did it, just find it funny that this is probably the first time he's used that line since Smith was drafted. Any other time the recruits would have laughed his butt off.

Now that we have the opportunity to go back and analyze that draft he clearly wasn't the #1 pick or even remotely close to the best QB. Hey, Urban has had a lot of success recruiting and coaching I get that but some of the things he tells recruits is downright LMAO funny! Definitely a used car salesman approach. Some buy the car and some never go back.

Right. Smith had a great college career but that was, what, almost 10 years ago? Recruits today don't remember that. I think most recruits would have thought of Alex Smith as a big bust before his hot start in 2012 and wouldn't have been impressed by the name-drop.

I get your point, ant80 -- #1 overall draft pick means he did pretty much as well as he could have done in college -- but I still think his lack of success in the NFL (until recently) would have made him a name Urbie would have avoided.

To illustrate -- and this analogy may not work depending on your political persuasion -- to me it would be like trying to convince somebody to run for Governor of Texas because G.W. Bush and Rick Perry used it as a stepping stone to the presidential race ... not untrue, but when you think of those guys now you think of them as a historically bad president and a guy who was laughed out of the presidential race. I mean, in 2008 Republican strategists kept Bush as far away from the candidates running for office as they could. I think similar logic would apply.

“That’s one of the biggest misconceptions,” Allen said. “I talked to Coach [Urban] Meyer for about 20 minutes and he said that’s just the guys they have. They went out looking for the next Braxton Miller, but sat down and said, ‘Is this what we really want?’ On the phone today, he said he wants a guy like he had in Alex Smith. He wants a guy that’s more of a passer first, more of a reader first. He wants an NFL style quarterback with a big arm to make the big throws.”

Where does JT Barrett fit into this?

I know for a fact that Al Golden thinks Urban is one of the most negative recruiters in the business.

He fits in a the heir apparent to Braxton Miller. That line he gave Allen was complete BS. Urbie thinks that he's got a fish on the line that he can reel in with ease. While getting his buddy who he really wants at the sametime.

This. It's like when Urban told Jevan Snead he was recruiting Tebow as a LB. He says whatever he needs to land the recruits he wants even if it's total BS. The truth is he has always had a huge lean towards true dual threat QBs and Allen will be bookended by Barrett and a dual threat QB Urban will take in 2015.

This implies that he wanted to be back in the limelight and campaigning. Not even close to true.

“The way we feel about it is we are going to look at schools separately and find the match for us,” Allen said. “If it works out that we both feel the exact same way about a school then we’ll commit together. If it happens, it’ll be amazing. We’ll have four years of chemistry under our belts. We’ll find the fit that’s perfect for us.”

this is andrews talking about him and allen after allen got an osu offer yesterday

Urban just offered two more QBs. And guess what? They're both dual-threat.... go figure.....

I would love to watch you do that to Urban. But give me a heads up so I can get some popcorn.

If any kid is dumb enough to take UM's BS hook, line, and sinker then that's on them. No reason for us to get upset.

Looks like he's participating in the Chicago Elite 11 regional today. Any chance he might take a quick swing by ND? I doubt it... but it would be awesome.

^ That was my first thought. If your not strongly considering them (which I don't think he is) then why visit when you can get to a place that you are. My understanding from the podcast was this was something he setup quite awhile ago and now since he's blown up a bit it doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. However, he's going to take the visit out of respect.

He mentioned when talking to ISD that he has family in Wisconsin who he was planning on taking on the visit. Can't fault him for not dropping them for a ND visit at basically the last minute. Also, him coming to ND in June means the entire team will be on campus and probably showing a little more enthusiasm compared to this weekend which should have most everyone studying for finals and on edge.
