No they weren't. They beat us for a couple guys but we had other ppl at that position we looked good for anyways. Look at our visit list from last spring and look at our visit list this spring, 2014 spring is a joke compared to 2013 spring so far.

Definitely want to crank things up here. I feel like we had momentum in this recruitment, but we may be losing it. Granted, it was always going to be tough to pull Malik away from Michigan, but I know he liked our academic numbers, African-American grad rate in particular. Would love to get him.

I remember quite vividly the sky is falling protestations among the IE faithful one year ago due to the "Clear # 1 class" Michigan was putting together. Came right out of the Bolden, Schutt discontent. Didn't Michigan have like 14 recruits committed by this time last year?

i'm just as disappointed w/ the recruiting momentum or lack there of, BUT these coaches didn't just forget what they have been doing....remember how small this class was going to be and then boom look at all the transfers...so they have a lot more slots and offers to get out but need to evaluate tape...flip side of things could be there is more emphasis on the actual team and are waiting to turn the heat up after spring game? idk..but i am not panicking yet

Not panicking just very suprised, and I understand they are being picky and with a small class they only want elite guys but most would consider Malik, Drake and Peppers elite talents at their position so very surprising to see us not all over those three.

Even with a small class I look at who we are recruiting and don't see enough prospects to fill a class, and that's assuming every prospect that has serious interest committed which isn't going to happen.

Im probably forgettting someone but those are the only prospects I think we have even a shot at landing at the moment whereas last spring u could probably add about 20 names to that list. That list is best case scenario and best case never happens. There is no excuse for a Midwest player not visiting this spring. And I don't think I'm being negative, I'm usually overly optimistic about recruiting.

I know Braden Smith really enjoyed his visit and we are the supposed leader but he is going to take other visits so by no means is he a lock for ND. It seems we are fading with Hood, so I am not sure who we actually have a good shot with at the moment. I know the staff can recruit at an elite level and I have no doubt they will by the end of this recruiting cycle, but I am very surprised with how it is playing out so far. I thought we would be major players for Peppers, Malik and Drake.

BUT yes i agree the one's you mentioned are certainly elite talents...BUT some of the kids don't need to be courted the entire time and look at 2 of our biggest names from last year...we weren't communicating w/ redfield/vanderdoes until the end

There is no panic, it's a discussion which is the purpose of this board. All some of us are saying is it is a bit surprising that we seem to be in rear view mirror with some of these elite kids. Most of the posts I have read, all say they know the staff can recruit and will.

Yeah, I agree with that the transfers changed up the recruiting game for them and I have no doubt they are reviewing tape on other prospects. I think the theme is that alot of us are suprised with the lack of updates and interest in some of the guys we had been hearing about.

Look at the 2013 Visit List next to the 2014 Visit List on 247. There's a huge difference

My point is guys like Malik and Peppers were considered to be at the top of the board and when was the last time we saw an update about them in regards to ND. Corey Robinson was a low three star, if that, prior to last April's spring game. He may start as a freshman and FAA recognition is not out of the question. So it depends on who they are.

That is what this class is going to be. Guys that work to develop immense but undiscovered potential. That is the best way to avoid log jams at position groups. Start from below, and end up pushing the group beyond, as opposed to a bunch of guys of similar talent and development and picking between them. That is why we need lots of guys in this class like Thomas Holley.

I know man but Greg Bryant, Max Redfield, Eddie Vanderdoes, Tarean Folston, Tori Hunter, Durtham Smythe didn't really have ND on their board around this time last year. Everything will fall into place the staff has done this before.
