Here is the video of Urban Meyer that has been previously mentioned where he spoke of not taking the out of state receiver (Neal) because his extra step was out of bounds. I've tried to embed it starting at the 15:52 mark, but just in case it didn't work skip to that section.

I want major reps for this since I had to listen to 15 minutes of UM speak where I literally had to have a vomit bag next to me just in case I couldn't stomach it. Watch at your own risk.

lol you guys are hilarious. Part of the problem is that ESPN is taking so long to get the memo that OSU has been eliminated; didn't someone say they heard on ESPN radio THIS WEEK that OSU was the favorite? Inexcusable.

What's even funnier is the fact that ESPN has Neal ranked higher than any other site. They have him as their 8th overall prospect in the class. So I find it humorous that they don't even know what teams are in the hunt for, what they feel, is one of the best overall players in the class.

Seriously though, I do wonder how much we can trust Luke Neal. He may like UNC and ND, but we have to rely on his word as to Davonte's interest level, and as we saw with the Pooles, parents can be unreliable. As people have said Ariz. seems to be an also-ran if they aren't making the visit a high priority, but I worry about Ark. as a sleeper.

The thing about Arkansas is that you really don't hear too much about them which I can see makes them dangerous. From reading the different stories that come out about Davonte and his recruiting process, Luke Neal doesn't seem to be the misleading type. He has been saying he wants Davonte to go to a good academic school (we hear that a lot), but he also wants Davonte to go to a school that he will get the most exposure from.

I think the big difference between Neal's recruitment and Poole's is that Luke Neal is actually "in-charge" of the process. I think Poole's parents let him handle it himself but helped him sort through the bullshit and gave their opinion nothing more. Not trying to say that Luke is some communist father or anything just trying to point out the small difference. In reality there hasn't been too many quotes from Davonte himself so it is hard to say who is really a leader. We only know who is out and who is favored by the father.

Davonte will not be visiting Arizona this weekend.
azcentral.com blogs - Richard Obert - Richardobert - Neal won't take last recruiting trip

Neal won't take last recruiting trip

Luke Neal said today that his son Davonte' won't take his last recruiting trip to Arizona (official or unofficial visit), mainly because of a family situation.

Last month, Neal, a two-time All-Arizona receiver/cornerback, had planned on taking his last recruiting trip to UA this weekend.

The Neals have shut down recruiting and will decide among Notre Dame, Arkansas, North Carolina and UA.

Luke said his son doesn't have a favorite.

What is most important in choosing the school?

"The ability to be able to play right away and to graduate," Luke Neal said.
Davonte Neal is up for the Ed Doherty Award on Friday, along with Scottsdale Saguaro running back D.J. Foster, at a noon luncheon at the Hilton Scottsdale Resort and Villas. It is the top football player of the year award that goes to the state's most valuable senior.

Neal ran for more than 1,000 yards and had more than 1,000 yards receiving and scored 35 touchdowns last season, leading Chaparral to a third consecutive state championship.

Other finalists for the award are Phoenix Desert Vista linebacker/running back Michael Arredondo, Chaparral quarterback Connor Brewer and Phoenix Northwest Christian running back Casey Jahn.

Neal will make his college announcement on Feb. 21 during a news conference at his Ahwatukee elementary school.

This is one of those things you know is massaged for the source. Dad doesn't want the local boys to feel out of it. (You know everybody always has a favorite, even though it may change.)

My point is you cannot overinterpret anything. Mr. Neal is one of the best parents I have seen in this process. Rock solid. But this statement can only be taken as one brush stroke on the canvas.

I am starting to wonder if he is at the top of our list though. Where is Trinity?

Ohio State parts ways with Jaamal Berry while he awaits trial | Dr. Saturday - Yahoo! Sports

This link discusses Urban cutting loose OSU RB Jamaal Berry. Does this open the scholly that allows him to take Neal?

Haven't read the whole thread lately, so maybe this is a blind alley. Also, Berry's holding the scholly until the end of the semester, says his mouthpiece.

I believe they were 3 over the 82 limit on NSD so they've still got some trimming to do just to get to their cap.

Sapp updated that Neal will attend a luncheon instead of visiting Arizona, yet Arizona is still in it (good sign for us tho, let's be real). Luke sees NC and Notre Dame as best fits, and said that no hat games will be played when he signs. Sapp likes our chances.

You can rest assured that even if there's a chance at sanctions, the UNC staff is saying no way.

Based on the article, seems like UNC is out in front with us right behind. Hopefully I am reading this wrong but not feeling that confident here as much as I hope I am wrong. Hopefully the sanctions will lead them to favor the Irish.

And it's that kind of attitude (steering clear of the truth) that put them in the crosshairs of the NCAA to begin with.
