If we are permitted to go back a couple of years, I'd say Anthony Barr was the top recruit we missed out on recently.

Isaac Sav and Torrodney Prevot.

In other classes i will say:

Lorenzo Booker: nation's top running back, national player of the year from CALI in 2002 who switched to FSU.

Maurice Clarett: He was a douche but man.. top talent. He visited the school several times.

Tamba Hali: KC Chiefs fan here so .. it is obvious.

Jason Avant: Chicago Kid in Michigan.

Kamerion Wimbley: He visited ND but he ended in FSU with Booker.

Greg Olsen: A Battle with Miami and they won.

Dan Connor: Elite LB in college.

Calvin Johnson: I got to say why?

Rashard Mendenhall: Illinois Kid who ended with a very good career.

Mario Manningham: Well, this dude always killed us.

Desean Jackson: Teammate of Freddie Parish, a player who commited to us.

Brian Cushing: The most underrated player in that overrated USC defense.

N. Suh: Oh boy!!

Beanie Wells: Beast mode in Columbus, i always loved the way he played.

Myron Rolle: ND Kid!!!! Why he went to FSU? smh

Micah Johnson: We lost this guy in a battle with Kentucky!

Pervy Harvin: Speed Skills. Cj Spiller in the same class too.

Brandon Graham: A beast in the DE/OLB hybrid. A better Shembo.

Martez Wilson: We lost a good one here.

Major Wright: I remember he liked ND a lot but is wasnt easy with an elite Florida Kid.

In the '09 class we lost Jelani Jenkins, Byron Moore or Jawanza Starling but we ended with Manti.

Lamarcus Joyner: This dude is a baller. He would been our best recuirt in the 2010 class.

Joshua Shaw: He always said that ND was his dream. Now at USC.

James Hurst: A local kid ended at UNC.

Anthony Barr: Coming from an ND family. Tough!

Cody Riggs: At some time ND led for him

I remember another kid from IND who ended at Stanford but i can't remember his name.. He was a DE.

Hasean Clinton-Dix: Bama always been his favourite but he always said that ND was his #2

Kasen Williams: Nice WR prospect, a slow version of Floyd.

John Theus: He looks like a future first rounder easily. Beast

Darby,
AQM,
Ryan Green - was basically ours; distance was the only reasons he didn't commit

Mike Machallari (sp?) Went to South Bend Clay HS and recruited to Stanford as a DE. Was kicking FG's in the Semi-State tourney game back in '04 against a Fort Wayne school...thinking it was FW Dwenger lol.

There are obvious ones like AQM, Dorian Johnson, Kyle Bosch, etc. where really something went "wrong" for us to miss them. And you can put Anzalone in the "WTF!" category.

Austin Hooper is one guy I think could be a VERY solid player, Dajuan Drennon has insane upside and I was always surprised we never made a run at him late in the cycle after missing on AQM, Jake Butt is a really solid prospect I think we could've had but we didn't really want and now he's at Michigan.... if I had to pick one guy though that is the "one that got away" I'd say it's Chans Cox or Jordan Mastrogiovanni. Both were great ILB candidates that supposedly had us very high on their lists... then they committed to local schools and their names never surfaced again. Add either one (or Anzalone) to this class and it's literally almost perfect.

Didnt Luke Keuchly (cinncinatti kid, ultimatley went to BC) say he would have loved to gone to ND--but was never even offered by us (CW).

for this cycle has to be treadwell and isaac--ND has to grab guys out of our backyard, recruiting base.

I know he wasn't recruited too hard by us, but I think that James Quick will be one of the most productive WR in college football next year. He is an incredible playmaker who I think will really thrive in Louisville's offense next year.

It was Blake Lueders from Zionsville, In.

Deontay Greenberry last year, hands down. He had the potential to be a game breaking wide receiver.... which is the biggest hole in our offense, in my opinion. Maybe I've been too spoiled with Rhema/Shark/Stoval/Tate/Floyd.

Neither Moss nor AQM "got away".

Neither EVER passed ND's Academic Admission's Requirements.

A recruit didn't "get away" because HE failed to qualify ACADEMICALLY.

The OP already set his criteria, and it says nothing about academic non-qualifiers not being able to be mentioned. I think these guys fall into the "got away" category anyways.

Would love to hear from the old timers about some guys who 'got away' from the old days.

The OP also says low profile prospects and specifically not AQM

How about James Jackson? He originally verbally committed to Lou Holtz at ND and flipped to Miami at the last minute.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

I really wanted K. Muhammad.

With his speed, burst, but small stature, he would've been a perfect change-of-pace guy to get lost behind the mammoths that got recruited on the o-line.

Would've been like Jacquizz Rogers: get lost behind the titans on the line, the defense can't see you, and by the time they see you, you're already past them bursting through the line.

Interesting, I wanted K. Muhammad too... until we got Folston and Bryant. Then I was really stoked we passed. Would you take him in addition to the two RBs we have or in place of one?

I still like my Chans Cox/Mastrogiovanni picks. Dajuan Drennon was a really good pick by the OP too.

I'll also throw Mattingly in there... guy could potentially tear it up at multiple positions for Oregon.

At the time, I may have taken him over Folston. However, knowing what I know now, I would've taken him in addition to Folston/Bryant, and liked to have seen Folston moved to CB. Of course, you may have Luke, Butler and Kinlaw all at CB, meaning the postition gets overloaded with Folston, but RB/Z is overloaded as well. ALL OF THE SCHOLARSHIPS.
