What about the other guy who said Tuiasosop introduced him to "Lennay"

That doesn't explain Reagan Mauia meeting a real life female. I assume the girl he met is the girl who was "playing" Lennay.

Maybe he had a friend he asked to play the part for an hour or so. This guy is creating all of this stuff (accident, lukemia, etc.) so to me it's not out of the realm of possibilities.

So if Teo's reps/agent were going to have a press conference weeks ago, why not do it now?

Don't they have the info?

Per Jack Swarbrick, they wanted to wait to see if these people tried to extort Manti for money. If they said "we leak this story unless you give us 10% of your NFL contract" then there'd be CLEAR criminal charges here. They wanted to let it play out and give them the opportunity to really bury themselves in criminal territory.

EDIT: Someone with a better understanding of NCAA rules can explain this, but I believe Manti JUST got his agent. He definitely couldn't have one until, at the earliest, January 8 after the NCG. All discussions while Manti was still a student athlete were with "Manti's future representation."

Manti, as painful as it may be, needs to get up to a microphone to tell his side of the story before this keeps careening even further out of control.

Manti has a professional agent and an image firm that is well versed in handling the image of their assets.

Whatever they do will be on their schedule not on the National Enquirer's schedule nor on that of some internet wizard demanding that every rock in South Bend be overturned first.

If there was an extortion attempt that is done because the story leaked... so why are they waiting?

If they did try to extort him all Manti's reps have to do is release a statement saying they can't say anything due to a criminal investigation.

Again, I might be wrong on this but I think the interview was planned for today and it was ESPN, not Manti, that cancelled it. It seems like the Manti camp is set on a one-on-one format and they might be getting picky with who the interviewer is.

It could be that or it could be that the former teammate thought Lennay was real, but that they didn't consider her Manti's girlfriend, but instead more of an online friend. That the girlfriend part was being exaggerated in the opion of the teammate.
True.

Greta is usually a good bet for this type of thing. Least intimidating interviewer on the planet.

I doubt it. He didn't claim to have met her until after the *stuff* hit the fan. I doubt you start hoaxing the day your hoax is exposed.

he also sent 3 or so tweets out in the days surrounding her "death" praying for her and saying he'd miss her. again, could have been another victim but just didn't sucked into it as far as Manti.

For totally selfish reasons, a second victim would be probably the best thing Manti could hope for. Right now it's he said she said. A second victim who was willing to come forward would make it he and he said she said, swinging the perception in Manti's favor.

The JayR character from Twitter seems to confirm that Manti isn't the first person to get tricked.

So is the story emerging that T'eo got duped but embellished his imagined relationship with the girl on some level because he got caught up in the media spin?

Didn't Jack say last night that the investigation revealed that there were other targets? Or am I imagining this?

Some ****head on ESPN tried to run a parallel with the Penn State scandal. What an idiot. There are no parallels with that awful situation.

Deadspin's sources, the people close to Tuiasosopo, said so, according to the article. Not sure if Jack did.

Which one is JayR? Who is he in "real life"?

Eff trying to follow this.

That position is kind of the "middle of the road". I see four positions out there:

1. Manti is totally innocent and was totally fooled.

2. Manti is mostly innocent but may have lied to his dad and told him he met Lanay in person.

3. Mainti is half innocent. He was fooled at first but then lied to everyone to cover it up when he learned the truth.

4. Manti is a liar and a creep and a disgrace to humanity.

You're right, Jack did say that.

There was even a question that asked him if he knew just how many targets there have been.

To which he replied, "I don't know".

I've heard that on literally every news outlet I've watched/listened to today.

NBC/CBS/NPR all had people on with their hair on fire screaming about how ND should be ashamed, this is a travesty, and it's just like Penn State all over again.

NPR was the only one that had an anchor who calmed thier lunatic down.

The ESPN video on their front page is pretty fair. It basically says, "Here is what Manti says, we'll see if it holds up under the scrutiny it will obviously get."
