I read Deadspin enough to know that they aren't a major player in sports journalism. I fully understand that they make their bones with more edgy peices, but I cannot think of one single major contraversy that they broke. If you can find one, then by all means.

Seriously... how many people knew the writers Timothy Burke and Jack Dickey before this article?

We aren't talking about an article by Adam Schefter or a peice being done Outside the Lines.... we are talking about an article written by two no name writers for Deadspin. This isn't being reported anywhere else yet, so I am not going to get too worked up about it until it does.

EDIT - Of course while I am writing the above, the BGI comment gets posted. I guess this is starting to get real.

I'm telling you, when I have time tonight I'll show you all of the legit stuff they do. They have broken a ton of stuff, but they are a sports journalism critic website - most of the stories they break exposé the media, not athletes or teams. Just because they aren't a big deal in your universe doesn't mean they aren't a big deal. Everyone in the media knows who all of the writer at deadspin are, and they're scared of them (And this is why.)

Someone before said deadspin = Bleacher Report, which is either incredibly butthurt or incredibly misinformed. In the industry, deadspin is not considered a niche site.

I'm so tired of every "good guy" our planet has ever seen being demonized at some point. I sincerely think he got duped, hit a point of no return, panicked, and kept his mouth shut until he saw the waves rolling in.

If so, that is very irresponsible on his part, but not a big deal. If he was 100% in on the hoax from day one, I may re-evaluate a few priorities in my personal life. It would be a pretty crippling blow.

I definitely remember Manti saying they met at Stanford and spent time together in Hawaii.

The University had a moral obligation to say something in light of all the publicity the story was getting and the awards ceremonies. Assuming there were no legal restrictions (can't think of any), how could they just hope this would not get uncovered?

I'll have to try and find the article to verify, but that is what is being said.

Ugh. I could see Manti coming up with some apparently innocuous lies to lay a foundation for what was really just a long-distance phone/internet "relationship", and now each one is going to make him look like some evil conspirator hoping to boost his Heisman campaign.

Really hoping there are no such quotes, but with our luck lately, I'm not counting on it.
