I talked to him today. Hes in South Bend right now waiting on the ncaa to decide, NDs compliance has told him they think he has a good shot, but keep in mind that its the NCAA we are talking abt. If he is back we have a leader of the defense, if not ND is going to need someone to step up

No offense to Slaughter but i think Nix has taken over that roll.

If he gets granted the 6th year do you see us using a 3-3-5 some?

Why would they do that when the DBs are the worst corp in the defense?

If anything, Diaco will just play nickle more often. But we'd see a 4-2-5 with Shembo with his hand on the ground and probably Grace coming out with Spond sliding a bit inside with Fox.

That is what I am assuming also. I thought it was a no brainer. Some seem to think it isnt as cut and dry

I may have made it seem that way by misinterpreting Lucci's post. I think everyone agrees that Jamoris gets to come back if he is eligible.

The only reason i asked that is he played a lot of that hybrid position 2 seasons ago. It would give us another tackler on the field as well a giving us favorable match ups.

The same ncaa that screwed over Abro... I'll never forget that BS.

Disagree. It's difficult for a lineman on either side of the ball to become a leader of a whole team in my experience. Linemen are often a sub-team unto themselves. They eat with linemen, workout with linemen, practice with linemen, hang out with linemen etc. That sort of group unity is good for their position but makes it difficult for the rest of the team to see him enough to become the emotional linchpin. Nix is the obvious heir to the leadership role on the D-Line, but it's difficult to see him as a leader of the entire defense simply because Slaughter will have more time spent with the rest of the defense. (This is all subject to the team chemistry and make-up being that of most teams, which is what I'm basing this opinion on.) Not saying it's impossible, just saying that a lineman becoming the emotional leader of an entire team is unusual. If anyone could do it though it would be Big Lou, so I guess we'll see.

Read on ISD that he was denied a 6th year. Huge bummer.

EDIT: Source is a poster I can't vouch for who claims to be friends with his father.

EDIT2: According to the guy, Jamoris can and will appeal the ruling and their is a fair chance of getting through on said appeal.

By the NCAA or by the staff? I thought the NCAA already allowed it.

NCAA and apparently not... whatever reports out there about it getting approved were apparently erroneous.

That's a damn shame. Hopefully the appeal process bears fruit for him. Would love his leadership back there next year.

Well that sucks, hope he is well enough to try out at the NFL combine and maybe latch on to team.

Dude could ball.

If they aren't going to give a kid like this a 6th year, nobody should ever get a 6th year. NCAA again shows its incompetence to the kids who do the right things every day for 5 years.

#FreeSlaughter should also be the motto for the defense in '13. As in, "we will slaughter your offense, free of charge (aside from the price of your blood and crushed souls)."

I wanted Jamoris back more for him than for the team. Has a kid and needed to put a good full year on the field to get drafted and to be able to support his family.

Nix rules. Hence my avatar. Just glad he's coming back. As far as Slaughter, he's been snakebit with injuries, and I'd love to see him get a full year in. Hope he gets to come back, if not, he has the talent to make an NFL roster.
