Great news! Slaughter is def better than any recruit we could pick up. This also gives Farley another year before he has to be the one quarterbacking the secondary. Not saying he couldn't do it, but having the extra experience in Slaughter is much more comforting.

Nothing until confirmed by NCAA. If he comes back at 100% this is a HUGE addition. If he doesn't come back at 100%, this is almost a wasted spot. Achilles injuries are tough to come back from.

+1

I like slaughter a lot but we have young guys thats are very good and can play at Slaughters level.

We don't know that. Redfield hasn't played a snap yet. Baratti and Shumate have played very little. i want Slaughter back but only if he is 100%. It would be nice to have him back but if he doesn't, oh well. I love how Farley has played this year

Highly doubt it. Slaughter probably would have been a third round draft pick if he would have stayed healthy. The young guys are really talented, but none have the game experience Slaughter has.

More good news when we need it after last night's debacle - J Slaughter is coming back for his 6th year. It was approved. Lock it in and not just speculation.

We will have A Collingsworth and J Slaughter at safety and the rest can fight for playing time.

Great news!

Well that's insanely good news if he comes back 100%... which I kinda doubt, but I'll cross my fingers.

Heard from a few reliable people as well his waiver passed. Doesn't mean he will definitely be back tho...

I hope it's true. His experience is invaluable to the guys back there. After him, Farley has the most experience? Just huge news if true. A leader too.

Watching the NCG on the sidelines must have just killed him.

This is huge from a leadership standpoint alone! If 100% healthy, we got us a Captain!

Slaughter, Nix, TJ Jones, and Martin as C's?

Absolutely love that list! They all earned it if you ask me. Lets see what the off-season holds for Tuitt. I think he is a sleeper candidate for a C role as well.

I agree, but I'd want to see if Everett can crack that list too. Would show how he's developing in the locker room.

Question here - does the staff view Shumate long term at CB, or do they foresee a shift back to safety? I thought I remembered the talk earlier in the season that he was seeing time there because of depth issues and he'd move back after the season. Would seem to be a logjam at safety and I think many here feel Redfield will get time on the field as a freshman.

And of course, I would love to have Jamoris back. Great leadership is always, always valuable.

Anyone remember the Champs bowl when we used Slaughter at Dog LB. He was making plays all over the place in that game.

Any chance with the depth chart glut at Safety we move Slaughter to OLB? Slaughter is a great tackler. We usually used him as an extra LB against the option teams as it was. His speed at the postion would be a real asset.

Danny Spond has been solid and Jaylon Smith is coming. So there are reasons not too. This is just a thought.

That was a stop-gap measure because we didn't have anyone capable of playing DOLB well at the time. We got away with using Slaughter in the "Star" position against the academies because they're undersized; we couldn't do that against bigger, more talented teams.

Given the apparent logjam at S next season, moving Slaughter to a position of need isn't a terrible idea. But OLB is pretty crowded too, and there simply aren't any positions of need that Slaughter is well-suited for with his physical profile.

Not really new but it was posted on II so thought I put it here anyways. Sampson checked on this situation this morning and no decision has been made. Expects one soon with spring semester starting Tuesday.

No decision by the staff? Or by the NCAA?

Am I wrong to assume that he gets to come back if he wants? I can't imagine they'd turn away a guy who the coaches called the smartest defensive player on the field during spring practice and fall camp. Ideal veteran leader, even if he loses a step from the injury.

Good question, he didn't really specify. Just said that no decision has been made. I would assume NCAA because if they allow it and he wants to not sure how you say no to a potential All American safety.

Are some of you assuming that even if he is granted a 6th year he might not take it? Or that the staff may not want him back for a 6th year? Why do you feel this way? The way I see it is if the staff and Jamoris petitioned the NCAA, they and Jamoris want to be back for another year. Not trying to be argumentative, just wondering about your logic behind it.

I'm assuming that if the NCAA grants the sixth year of eligibility, then Jamoris will be back.

That is what I am assuming also. I thought it was a no brainer. Some seem to think it isnt as cut and dry

The only decision is the NCAA's. If he is granted the 6th year, he will be back. Seems ND Compliance is pretty confident, which is encouraging.
