Ha, Whiskey.

I have no doubt that the sort of migration Lax describes has occurred. But it seems to me that people become Michigan fans even with no connection to the state, not even an indirect one. Most of the Michigan fans I knew growing up were in this category. My brother's best friend became a huge Michigan fan just because he thought their helmets looked cool when he was a kid. My hunch is that Peppers was one of these, a kid who became a Michigan fan for some idiosyncratic reason unique to him.

Interesting.

I wonder if recent downturns in manufacturing in Michigan/Ohio have had a similar migratory effect. It's not like there is a super robust economy anywhere west or south of Michigan...

Folks in Ohio went to the Carolinas/Arizona/Florida. Manufacturing is turning around in Ohio in a big, big way thanks to natural gas.

IMO with Robinson leaving there is a very real chance that next year Michigan is garbage. They either start Gardner who they are now converting back to QB is Robinson's absence or they go pro-style like they've been wanting to and start a true freshman (Morris). Who was having a terrible senior year prior to getting sick.

Regarding the exodus of graduates from those three schools, I was going to make a comment about the midwest being a frozen wasteland bereft of economic opportunity, but figured it might offend some people here.

Be sure not to mention anything about their football sucking either, Whiskey.

As much as it pains me to say anything with even a remotely positive connotation about michigan(sucks), they appear to be better with Gardner in. If anything, it helps Michigan that Gardner is getting meaningful reps now, while also playing decent. I'd rather Robinson play and continue arm-punting while slowing Gardner's development, but it appears that even if he's healthy, Denard may have lost his job.

I knew guys when I was little who cheered for UM for this reason alone.

Actually, the fact that "wolverine" is a national pop comic book hero shows that Michigan Wolverines are embedded in the nation's psyche as emblems of power [like it or not]. The comic book people could have focussed on any nasty biological form, but out popped the Wolverine as the immediate image of violent winning. This isn't really too surprising to me as Michigan has won, as we're tired of hearing, more football games than anyone. Way back in Rockne's time, they were already being called Mighty Michigan. Their penchant for consistently being high in college football ranks, and [irrationally] their fight song contending for "most rousing or popular" college fight song [also alongside ours] has seeped deeply into kids and adults' minds everywhere. [If Notre Dame has a nasty animal as a mascot, we'd probably have a comic book superhero too]. Nothing about this surprises me --- half of Florida was once ex-Michigan retirees as well.

It doesn't matter where he is on the field, he makes this game look easy. Real special player.

At least he's honest though.

Also, 4 out of 5 of those schools are excellent universities (not including Whiskey's ROI charts). You can get an excellent education at each of those 4. This is a good sign that academics are important to him. We should stay in it til the end, IMO.

LSU. I'm sure you can get a decent education from it, but the other 4 are on another level.

That's what I figured, and it's probably a fair assessment of public perception as well.

I know you weren't referring to Football ROI numbers, but it's interesting (to me at least) to see how it differs from conventional wisdom sometimes.

Of the five schools he's allegedly considering, OSU is the worst (by far), and Michigan isn't much better than LSU.

But you're right that we should probably be encouraged by that list. A lack of schools like SCar, FSU, etc. generally portends well for us.

Agreed on all accounts. I do like your ROI charts for the majority of student athletes looking at which school to attend, but when looking at kids like Jabrill, he will want to be, and will be successful no matter where he goes. He is a very driven individual with a high internal motor for success. He might be along the lines on Rolle (sp) from FSU.

Yikes don't put that kind of pressure on the poor kid ... Rolle was literally a Rhodes scholar. lol.

Haha I know, and I'm not saying Jabrill is as smart as he is, but from everything I've seen, just as driven for his goals. Correct me if I'm wrong DomeLover.

Peppers' Paramus Catholic team will take on Jimmy Byrne's St. Ignatius team next year. Just finalized and came across twitter tonight. Should be a great game filled with D-1 talent.

He is exactly the type of player we could use against an SEC team. Another 11-12 win season would be very helpful.
