How old is the interview? If Stanford is his top team, this is definitely a winnable recruiting battle.
Diaco:
GO.
GET.
HIM.
ironman you hearing anything with the dbp connnection, north jersey rumor mill?
are we in this? is mich the team to beat here?
It is funny to see how OSU recruits. They literally smother these kids and send them 10+ letters a week. Works for some kids sure but I can see why many others (who have interests greater than football) get turned off by it.
Too true, sure Urbie used to write Tebow daily love letters back in his UF days!

Urban has consistently pulled many highly recruited players in his days at Florida and tOSU. I'm sure he has far more success than just a hit-or-miss type recruiting strategy that you are implying should indicate. For the 2014 class, we are in on a LOT of great players. Can't be consistently pulling players like this with the above-mentioned strategy.
I believe Shumate also grew up a Michigan fan.Are you kidding me? Do you even bother reading? It was based off a direct quote in the article where Peppers mentioned that's literally exactly what they're doing.
Hunter Bivin mentioned something similar. So did Logan Tulley-Tillman.
Inundating someone with attention to show desire is a tried and true strategy of recruiting in all sports. I dunno what you're up in arms about here. It's effective but can also turn off some kids.
On another note, really odd to me that he grew up a Michigan fan unless he had some sort of family connection. I've seen a lot of kids recently from he eastern seaboard who say they grew up Michigan fans... is that because their families moved away to a stronger economic climate? Similar thing happened with people from Pittsburgh moving to DC many years ago when things started slowing down there... now any Skins-Steelers game is about 50% terrible towels.

He's really into Michigan so going to be a tough pull but if we continue to win and Michigan flops next year then we could be in the driver seat. His mom is all about academics so I think we have a great shot but I think it depends alot on how Michigan does at the end of the year and next year.
Then UM's a pretty poor choice for Peppers. They only graduate 59% of their African-American athletes. Not sure how any parent could overlook that statistic.
In fact, Michigan's not even in the top 20 of any of the three Football ROI rankings. Really tired of the skunkbears trying to tout their academics.

At first it was odd to me that that strikes you as odd ... but now that I think about it, maybe it is odd. Growing up in VA I had a number of friends who were big Michigan fans. I guess I don't know why. Some of these people were in the critical fanhood-formation stage of 10-15 years old during the early 90's, when Michigan had the Fab 5 in hoops and won an NC in football. Some, like Peppers, were younger though, so I'm not sure where the Michigan fanhood came from. I guess I just think of Michigan as a school that has a national following. Did people from other parts of the country know Michigan fans growing up? Now I'm curious.
Nate Silver touches on this in this article: a big reason that OSU, PSU, and UM are the most popular programs in the country is because they're huge public universities that graduate 10-18k newly-minted hardcore fans every year. Many of those fans promptly move elsewhere, so you can find significant pockets of them in almost any major city.
But a larger contingent are people with absolutely no affiliation to the university who just grew up in Pennsylvania rooting for the Nittany Lions and then moved to the DMV to find jobs. This migration of sorts seemed to start decades ago when steel mills started shutting down.
I wonder if recent downturns in manufacturing in Michigan/Ohio have had a similar migratory effect. It's not like there is a super robust economy anywhere west or south of Michigan... you're probably best off getting on 80/90 east and driving until you reach the land of "Government never stops printing/spending money." That's at least my theory. When you look at people like Blake Countess, Peppers, etc. I don't think they were the progeny of Michigan alumni.
